A swoon-worthy wonderfully narrated historical romance!
Revisado: 04-09-25
I absolutely loved this audiobook! I’m a fan of period pieces in general and these Harlequin Historical Regency romances give us the opportunity to enjoy stories like Pride and Prejudice, but with sapphic characters.
Author Emma Claire-Sunday had me at the foreword. While I won’t share what she wrote, I knew something special was on the way.
There were times when I wished I was following along with the ebook so I could highlight especially wonderful passages. I’ll need to purchase this book in that format to do just that.
The narration by Beatrix Ayliff was outstanding. She beautifully captured Charlotte and Loretta’s growing friendship, attraction and longing, and Loretta’s refreshingly well told awakening. The romance was swoon-worthy and the main characters so likable. I wanted so much for our heroines to get their happily ever after. The secondary characters added much to the storyline as well, and even provided some surprises along the way.
This is one I’ll be listening to again. More please, Emma!

I cross the tracks every day for one reason - to graduate from this school and get into the Ivy League. I'm not ashamed of where I come from, my family, or how everyone at Marymount thinks my skirts are too short and my lipstick is too red. Clay Collins and her friends have always turned up their noses at me. The witch with her beautiful skin, clean shoes, and rich parents who torments me daily and thinks I won't fight back. At least not until I get her alone and find out she's hiding so much more than just what's underneath those pretty clothes.

Surpassed my expectations!
Revisado: 03-19-25
This audiobook had been sitting in my Audible library for quite a while. A couple of friends recommended it, but knowing the main characters were in high school made me think I wouldn’t be able to invest in it. Boy, was I wrong!
At first I thought it was just Mean Girls on steroids - but no, it’s much more than that. But you have to stick with it and give yourself the opportunity to get to know these characters to invest in this wonderfully unique story.
I used to teach high school, so thought I would be uncomfortable with Olivia and Clay experiencing very adult things - including explicit sex. But the way the author wrote them, they never seemed to be that young. Masterful writing, really.
The dual narration by Desiree Ketchum and Valentina Ortiz was excellent - especially Desiree’s Clay. Both narrators manage to pull off two very complex characters - their public bravado and private vulnerability.
This book isn’t any one thing - it has so many layers. Listeners will feel a gamut of emotions as the story unfolds. I’ve listened to hundreds of audiobooks and can honestly say I’ve never experienced anything quite like this. It’s a hell of a ride!

I absolutely loved this audiobook!
Full disclosure - celeb romances are my favorite genre. Still, this one was a cut above. Loved both mains - especially Brynn - who managed to be relatable in spite of being ridiculously talented and gorgeous. The achingly slow build and chemistry were sublimely written.
Quinn Riley’s narration was delicious. I’m so happy that she’s doing so many more sapphic audiobooks! Love. Her.
I can’t wait to experience more books by Ruby Landers!

I flippin' LOVED this audiobook! Loved.
When narrator Quinn Riley has great material to work with, she is sublime and wow - does she knock this one out of the park! I exclaimed aloud many times while listening to this one! It's moving, sexy, insightful, inclusive.... all the things you want in an audiobook listening experience.
The characters in this series - starting with Falls from Grace - are terrific. I can't wait for book three - Saving Graces - to be available on audio. I'm spoiled by Quinn so want to wait - even though the printed and ebook versions are currently available.

A fabulous end to the trilogy!
Revisado: 02-21-25
I loved everything about this series! This installment was especially exciting. I am going to have a major hangover after this one so will have to choose my next listen carefully.
As in my reviews of the first two books, I'll reiterate that the narration is SUPERB by both narrators - especially by Allie Rose who voices Octavia. She performed the hell out of this one with so much emotion. Anais Inara Chase was also terrific as Red.
There's so much in this series! Passion, angst, love, hate, longing, lust, bloodlust, mysteries to be solved, family trials and tribulations, moral dilemmas...There is also explicit sex, so if that bothers you, I'd stay away because there's a lot of it. But you'd be missing out more than one incredible love story/romance and a hell of a well written series!
I am HOOKED on Ruby Roe's books and can't wait for my next fix!

An absolutely delicious listen!
Revisado: 01-30-25
I LOVED this audiobook and was completely captivated by the characters and their stories!
For those who haven’t read Ruby Roe’s work yet, she writes erotic fantasy love stories/romances. They are brilliantly written and absolutely delicious. I listened to her Girl Games series and knew immediately I was going to dive into her Kingdom of Immortal Lovers books as soon as I could!
I mean, who can resist a love story between a vampire and a vampire hunter??
Podium Audio uses fabulous narrators for Roe’s works. A large part of why I loved this book so much is due to the outstanding narration by Allie Rose and Anais Inara Chase. I don’t know which of them performs the character of Octavia, but I’m utterly enchanted by her!
This is one of those books that you yell, “WHAT!?!” when it’s over. I’m dying to know what happens next!
If you don’t like explicit sex, these books are not for you. But if you appreciate lots of spice, this is about as hot as they come!

A breath of fresh air!
Revisado: 12-17-24
Besides being exasperated with one of the mains for a minute (listen to or read it and find out why) I loved this book!
First - it's about a group of friends in their 60s and 70s who are still vital, productive, sexual beings. How often do we get those?!
Second - it's a love letter to close friendships between women and how valuable they are when you find the right tribe. Again - so rare!
Third - it's a really lovely second chance romance with sexy times. Thank you very much, Kathleeen Brehony, and more of that in general, please!
The audiobook is beautifully narrated by Abby Craden who pulls off a new American accent I've never heard her do before. You'll have to listen to it yourself to hear what I'm talking about. So many teasers in this review, eh?
At just over six hours, the audio is great to enjoy between longer listens or just when you need something more like tasty dessert than a full course meal.

Outstanding storytelling and narration!
Revisado: 12-05-24
Two words - Abby Craden. Wow. While I’d read the book and was familiar with the story, it was an entirely new experience performed by this master narrator. Nobody but nobody delivers the emotion like Craden - she is in a class by herself. At one point I wondered if I was going to be able to continue because I knew how raw I would feel as a result. But I did and was utterly blown away by it.
I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see this gifted performer honored as audiobook narrator of the year again by GCLS for this work. It’s just that good.
Lyon wrote an incredible book and hired just the right actor to bring these unforgettable characters to life. Bravo to Lyon and Craden both! Easily one of the best listens of the year.
Original review of print version:
Rarely have I struggled so much to write a review. The Unfinished Line isn’t the kind of book you easily breeze through and then knock out a quick review for. It’s a substantial novel - in length and substance - that requires investment. It requires processing. And yes - for some it will require recovery time.
I can't let go of the story. I have so many thoughts and feelings - almost none of which I can share spoiler-free. God knows I hate spoilers. But when folks are done reading about it, I want to talk about it. In detail. I also want to have an in-depth discussion about why this author felt the need to provide what she did in the foreword of the book as to what the story is and isn't.
What I will say is that I wholeheartedly recommend you read it! It’s Jen Lyon, after all, who burst on the scene with the incredible Senator’s Wife series and proves once again with this release that she's the real deal. She doesn’t skimp in her storytelling, but writes fully fleshed out, unforgettable characters who readers invest deeply in. Lyon quite openly says if you're looking for light, fluffy romances, her books aren't for you. But if you want deeply meaningful stories that explore the human experience, she's absolutely a go-to author.
Lyon calls this her "passion project" so while it appears The Unfinished Line is a stand-alone novel, this reader hopes there might be something someday that provides a glimpse into what happens further down the road.
