Historia
Twenty years after the Starr Report and the Clinton impeachment, former special prosecutor Ken Starr finally shares his definitive account of this period in American history. Now Starr finally shares his unique perspective on the investigation that began with the Whitewater land deal and spread to a wide range of President Clinton's actions, including accusations of sexual harassment and perjury in the Monica Lewinsky scandal. Starr's narrative includes behind-the-scenes details that have never before emerged as well as a new analysis from the perspective of history.

Contempt Indeed.
Revisado: 08-11-23
This man's partisan hatred and contempt for someone who neither Starr nor trump is fit to shine the shoes of is NAUSEATING. President Clinton was in total agreement with having a Special Counsel, he cooperated fully, they dug and dug and dug (at our expense) not on attempts to overthrow the government, not on daily violations of the emoluments clause, not on misuse of campaign funds or perfect phone calls trying to "win" an election, not due to extortion, suspected collusion-those "perfect phone calls about adoption in Ukraine -what ever happened to that perfect passion about "adoption", no known lies to Congress' faces about WMDs that didn't exist to get us into a war we had NO business in-but repeatedly, Whitewater-nothing, Vince Foster-nothing. (Benghazi-nothing) They took a mentally ill man down on his luck and fed him bs to say, while his wife Karen-her story is what you should read instead of wasting time on this pompous partisan drivel, it's horrible what this man who yes, held nothing but CONTEMPT for the person he was supposed to be IMPARTIAL in investigating, DID to her because she refused to regurgitate the LIES this author tried to feed her-talk about weaponizing the DOJ. The ONLY "crimes" he ever found were against Hillary in the private and humiliating situation of a marriage, and this was a matter that our country NEVER should have been involved in. Dubbya openly lied to Congress about WMDs he KNEW didn't exist, where was HIS "special counsel "? Horrible book by a horrible man and btw I read it twice. AWFUL. This orange rotund baby who snivels about "Witch Hunts" incessantly was apparently in a coma while this heinous POS went through untold millions to find a stain on a dress that affects our country...HOW, exactly?
Dubbya lied and so many died.

Day 4
Revisado: 01-16-23
If you listen to nothing else, you MUST listen to Day 4 of the January 6 hearings. This is where Orange Geezus**and Rudy Gooliyawnee personally harass and terrify people for refusing to alter vote counts in AZ "we're all republicans here, why can't you just play ball?" or to simply act as voting officials in counties in GA, only to have their names publicly displayed, first and last name and place where they lived, calling them "election scammers, everyone knows that about them." Not one person is left who had served on elections there after receiving death threats, the FBI warning the mother and daughter from GA to hide until at least the inauguration because they weren't safe, and sure enough, a pack of thugs broke into the GRANDMOTHER'S house to demand the location of daughter and granddaughter for a "citizen's arrest". Do YOU think they would have taken these women to the police station? Yeah, me neither. Please bear in mind that every bit of what they did-the House Speaker in AZ who refused to tamper with vote tallies was branded a pedophile, which seems to be a GQP scapegoat label for anyone who pisses them off-they blasted loudspeakers all over his neighborhood that he was a child molester-a young girl critically ill next door, they didn't care-all because he refused to tamper with the election results. They had huge numbers of pizzas sent to people whose only crime was presiding over voting in counties where he didn't win.
Listen to this, and then tell me that poor excuse for a human has ANY business running around loose, let alone being president **.

Historia
On January 6, 2021, insurgents stormed the U.S. Capitol, an act of domestic terror without parallel in American history, designed to disrupt the peaceful transfer of power. In a resolution six months later, the House of Representatives called it "one of the darkest days of our democracy," and established a special committee to investigate how and why the attack happened. Celadon Books, in collaboration with The New Yorker, presents the committee's final report, the definitive account of January 6th and what led up to it.

Why Is This Guy Still Running Around Loose?
Revisado: 01-07-23
I had kept track of the hearings and the news around them, and I didn't think I could be shocked anymore, but they managed it. The events of that day just blow your mind. The conversations and the level of planning involved, there's just no doubt that he was trying to overthrow our government because he's a sore loser. What would they have seriously done if they had gotten their hands on Mike Pence? How could 🍄** just sit there watching it on tv and saying nothing? How can anyone continue to say that he's done nothing wrong? What would have happened if he had been allowed to go lead the charge that day?
The damage this ego project has done to our democracy is ongoing. From now on, any election that doesn't end up being Republican is going to automatically be dismissed as fraudulent.
If that man had an ounce of love for this country, there's no way he'd have been able to undermine our electoral system this way.

Historia
In the years leading up to the election of Donald Trump, Congressman Adam Schiff had already been sounding the alarm over the resurgence of autocracy around the world, and the threat this posed to the United States. But as he led the probe into Donald Trump’s abuses of presidential power, Schiff came to the terrible conclusion that the principal threat to American democracy now came from within. In Midnight in Washington, Schiff argues that the Trump presidency has so weakened our institutions and compromised the Republican Party that the peril will last for years.

I Wish We Had More Answers
Revisado: 06-15-22
It would be nice if the author had the answers to questions such as "how did we end up with an entitled, crude, out of touch cult leader coming perilously close to dismantling our democracy"? I have so many questions like that, and I'm extremely uneasy about the answers. The author doesn't overreach to that extent-i don't think anyone has the answer to the question I posed-but his frank assessment of our predicament is refreshing if not reassuring. I think the biggest question I have is "is this person the problem or just a symptom of something very dire and broken, and are we going to recover, or is something just as bad going to step in as we decline as a society?" Many of these books try to end on a hopeful note, but we are spared inauthentic moments like that here. We are provided with the factual account of the impeachment-why it took as long as it did for them to act, and why they weren't successful-and the Jan 6 debacle. I'm grateful for the people we do have in government who are respectful of the Constitution and who are there to serve our country instead of themselves. I just wish there were more of them.

The true story of what took place in Donald Trump’s White House during a disastrous 2020 has never before been told in full. What was really going on around the president, as the government failed to contain the coronavirus and over half a million Americans perished? Who was influencing Trump after he refused to concede an election he had clearly lost and spread lies about election fraud? To answer these questions, Phil Rucker and Carol Leonnig reveal a dysfunctional and bumbling presidency’s inner workings in unprecedented, stunning detail.

Learned A Lot
Revisado: 10-03-21
I couldn't pick a most memorable moment. There were a few things. We learn that tRUMP** can be a gracious host, that we have him** at least partly to thank for the election results in GA post-Presidency because he** spent the entire speech talking about himself** and how GA's election system is rigged. Not exactly a ringing endorsement for voting in that election, something a seasoned politician who wasn't a complete narcissist would never have done. Why any seasoned politician would put him** on a podium expecting ANYTHING more than exactly what he** did, I can't imagine. The people who don't buy that line of bs went ahead and voted. The MAGAts, who hang on his** every word like he's** the second coming of Christ, stayed home, which is what they got from his** message. Surprisingly, the other things we learn are that there's a REALLY unprofessional law professor out there who gives insanely terrible advice and did his very best to illegally subvert our system of free voting by the people, and that Jr is at least as horrible of a person as we get from his non stop whiny malicious mean tweets. Also, that Mike Pence and Mitch McConnell aren't the horrible people we always thought they were, and that Steve Bannon and Rudy ARE. Betsy DeVoss and Elaine Chow turned out to be decent enough people to resign after the mess he** absolutely caused on January 6. I never thought I would say this, but Mike Pence is one of the heroes of this story in a situation where GOP heroes are even more than usually hard to find.

So, A Disgruntled MAGAt Decides To Write A Book
Revisado: 05-13-21
It was a peculiar experience to take in all of the fairly pointless and non-ending vitriol displayed in this book, so, curious, I did a google search on this author. Note that I didn’t even google the book, just this guy’s name. Here’s what I found: “ Aldrich acknowledges that many events described in the book came to him 2nd & 3rd hand, and that he had no evidence to corroborate them. The publication led to a response by the Clinton WH officials, who said the book was filled with demonstrably untrue information.” This is all too obvious from reading this book, which is why I did the search, and that a very basic google search of the author’s name bears that out is sad, really. He doesn’t even do a decent job of pretending to be professional or bipartisan-as a legit FBI agent is obligated to be, as they work for all Americans, not just conservatives and Q-Anon, going so far as to refer to Clinton associates as “Clinton cohorts”. He might as well have just openly said “fellow Clinton criminals “. Here’s what really blows your mind as you read this pile of nit picky admittedly 3rd hand nonsense-there’s not one single “crime” or “offense” shared anywhere here that, even assuming that every word was the gospel truth-which is pretty hard to do-the “president **” that we can rest assured that this author feels the sun rises and sets because of absolutely topped every “crime” and misdeed listed in painstaking detail here during the 8 years of the Clinton Presidency, in his** first month of his** four year term, so what’s this guy’s point, exactly?

Nash, The Sweet Voice Of Reason In a Difficult but Talented Group
Revisado: 01-25-20
I think we all have our favorites in CSN (you can't justly include Neil Young because his participation, while greatly beneficial, was like that of a capricious butterfly, darting in and out), and I admit that my favorite is Stephen Stills,I feel his talents are very underappreciated. I have no idea how difficult he is to work with, but I know someone who worked with Crosby professionally and I fail to see how Stills could be more difficult than THAT, so to me it seems incredibly short sighted and unfair! I have seen all of the documentaries and read all of the books, and it bothers me to hear all of these stories where Stephen wasn't included. He's clearly a protectionist and apparently has an ego, but his contribution is so amazing! I enjoyed Nash's honesty about his humble beginnings and the struggles of his parents. His mention of Radio Luxembourg, The Everly Brothers (loved the story from his boyhood meeting of them!) , John Sebastian, Cass Elliott, and Ahmet Ertegun are such COMMON influences in up and coming rockers in the 60's-the only things not mentioned were possibly The Band, Bob Dylan, and Fred Neil! I enjoyed the book and the fact that the author narrated. I love his passion for politics and the environment(I'd love to hear his take on tRUMP!) and the story of his rise to fame is a good one, he's very talented and down to earth. Here's where this book went south for me just a little bit. I was anticipating the story of why his marriage ended, and what happened between him and Crosby that was so bad that he will never speak to him again. This book ends with Nash extolling the many virtues of his wife Susan and his best friend David Crosby, when, in truth, he left his wife for a woman young enough to be his daughter(reportedly with a strong resemblance to a young Joni Mitchell), and he has vowed to never speak to Crosby again. Considering that Crosby's frankly outspoken remarks about Neil Young divorcing Peggy after decades of marriage and marrying Darryl Hannah were pretty harsh, he's made it very clear that he's pretty judgmental about men "upgrading" to newer models, often literally. My hunch is that this is related. While it's not kind to put someone who has been there for you on blast and to be that outspoken and judgmental about their personal life, that IS who Crosby is and has always been, and to be that unforgiving now when he's down on his luck and in poor health, this is a choice Nash is going to regret. Anyway, perhaps this needed addendum will be in the next book, very disappointed that these subjects weren't addressed.

All across the globe, small children spontaneously speak of previous lives, beg to be taken "home", pine for mothers and husbands and mistresses from another life, and know things that there seems to be no normal way for them to know. From the moment these children can talk, they speak of people and events from the past - not vague stories of centuries ago, but details of specific, identifiable individuals who may have died just months, weeks, or even hours before the birth of the child in question.

Misleading
Revisado: 10-15-19
If I wanted to read a debunking book, I would have bought one that was honest about what it was, I wouldn't have purchased a book called Old Souls that spent the ENTIRE book being condescending and, frankly, stupid about the subject, to the point of trying to ridicule and shame a renowned and respected expert such as Dr Brian Weiss. This insufferable jerk needs, at the VERY least, to change the title of this book to reflect what the reader is actually getting "I Look Down At The Millions Of People World-wide Who Are Stupid Enough To Believe In Reincarnation" would be a strongly recommended title for this book. If you want to spend several hours of THIS life that you can never get back enduring this pompous exploration into just how "gullible and stupid" so many people are, this is the book for you. As for me, I'm getting my money back, then I'm going to write a GOOD book about reincarnation and I think I'll call it "For People Who Are Too Smart To Buy Into New Age That's Actually called Centuries Old BS", to complete the cycle of bait and switch started by this author. This book deserves NO stars, but I was forced to give at least one. I wish I could give it negative five stars.

In Mr. Trump’s campaign against what he calls “Fake News”, CNN Chief White House Correspondent, Jim Acosta, is public enemy number one. From the moment Mr. Trump announced his candidacy in 2015, he has attacked the media, calling journalists “the enemy of the people”. Acosta presents a damning examination of bureaucratic dysfunction, deception, and the unprecedented threat the rhetoric Mr. Trump is directing has on our democracy. When the leader of the free world incites hate and violence, Acosta doesn’t back down, and he urges his fellow citizens to do the same.

Welcome To Fake News Hell
Revisado: 07-10-19
Social media has allowed me to renew friendships made back in Jr High, and we’ve fallen back in lock step as if we were together yesterday instead of decades ago. It was a lovely surprise to learn that every one of my very good friends is a liberal, passionately so-a surprise, as we didn’t generally discuss politics much when we were 14. We’ve had many great discussions. Oddly, the one thing we don’t seem to agree about is the issue of the media. I’ve held growing concern-fear, even-that probably began with Dan Rather’s firing from CBS News because, basically, he had dared to report the truth. If we’re lucky enough, maybe Mr Rather will also write about his experience-I know he has courage and truth inside of him even after what he experienced, because I still have the pleasure of reading his honest thoughts on Twitter. Courage, indeed, as he used to say.
What happened to Dan Rather should never have happened, but it seemed to mark the beginning of the “moral majority “ exerting a heck of a lot of control over what, if any, information we received. Nothing has come close to the audacity of Trump, who was accustomed to dwelling within his own personal fiefdom, with yes men and women there for the grabbing-“let me just get a tic tac and I can do whatever I want to, and they’ll just LET me!”-that was his world, along with bellowing “You’re Fired!” every week on tv, forming a new pop culture phrase much like “where’s the beef”, “kiss my grits”, “I’m Comin’, Elizabeth!”, “I pity the fool”-and let’s not forget the Beverly Hillbillies “wooo-doggies!” The relevance of this observation is to explain that this man’s world, and his frame of reference, wasn’t one of politics or even necessarily ethics-it was a combination of entitlement through birth into a comfy situation financially, and the unreality of the life of a reality tv star-it’s a very different standard of behavior from politics, where a person is held, not less accountable than less privileged folk as he’s so accustomed to, but actually much MORE accountable than most-politicians are held to a higher standard behaviorally, they are expected to be transparent, honest, and to accept a higher level of scrutiny-and to be able to hold up to that scrutiny. To say that this man came to this place ill-prepared could be stated across the board but certainly specifically to navigating the media scrutiny that is very much part of this job description-and the subject of this book.
Where my friends and I disagree is on the subject of the media, specifically the quality/integrity of our information and making darned sure that the companies who hire reporters to perform this service don’t have a conflict of interest. Learning that a politician is attempting to purchase an interest in a news organization, or that he/she has personal friends who perform dubiously selfless and inexplicably expensive favors known as “catch and kill”-they outbid everyone for exclusive rights and bury one very scandalous story after another-this seems like a very sketchy business proposition- they ARE in the business of selling news stories to the public, and the more sensational, the bigger their viewership/sales/potential ad revenues-clearly, they HAVE to be benefiting in some way unless they just love to give away opportunities to increase sales/ratings-something is in it for them somewhere. What? It’s not merely an issue of being curious, which I am-it’s an issue of integrity of our news. Are we getting the whole story about this man, or are we being sold an image as incomplete as his hair and as fake as his tan? What are they hiding? And, there are at least two separate news outlets that engage in this practice. No fewer than two, but maybe more? How many more? What are they hiding?
As to Jim Acosta specifically, this is definitely not a man engaging in catch-and-kill-he’s the opposite of the two (at least) not-very credible news sources that we can’t trust because they have a personal agenda that happens to include buying and burying secrets. He fights very hard for us to get the answers to the hard questions, to hold this entitled celebrity president accountable, quite possibly for the very first time in his life-but that is the job he signed up for - transparency, accountability, and, ideally, honesty and integrity. Public interest over self promotion seems like a distant memory right now, making the integrity of the news all the more crucial.
Hearing Acosta tell his story about the struggle we’ve all witnessed, where, when asking a question that isn’t flattering-which definitely is part of the job HE signed up for -he’s been openly heckled and ridiculed by the president, pointing his finger and yelling “you are FAKE NEWS”, and, unbelievably, turning to the MAHAs (h8notgr8) and openly urging them to assault Acosta, promising to pay the legal bills incurred when they are arrested for assault! Finding himself practically as endangered here at home as he would have been covering an actual war in another country actively engaged in battle-pipe bombs mailed to him, death threats by MAHAs who very zealously seek to protect the honor of one who feels that he has something to hide and is completely entitled to do so-while issuing very strong statements holding everybody else accountable, demanding information/proof ranging from a birth certificate to the contents of emails, promising to be equally transparent “just as soon as the tax audit is completed”. Not sure what the hold up on the Einstein visa is-but there is ALWAYS a hold up-in the case of the “highest IQ of any president “, the SAT scores and college transcripts, there have been questions simply because there has been such excessive bragging, and there is quite a disconnect when reading his Tweets or listening to one of his speeches-a reasonable person DOES start to wonder because he definitely struggles and doesn’t seem to be particularly intellectually curious. Acosta speaks very passionately about the civility and ethics of another candidate for president that he had covered earlier on-being on the trail during an entire election campaign, developing admiration for and a relationship with that candidate-and how vastly different that experience was from this experience of traveling with Trump the entire time he was campaigning. Acosta was in no way being partisan or critical of either candidate during each campaign experience, just stating that there definitely was a difference, which would be understandable as they are two different personalities from two very different places. Being heckled, threatened, menaced by packs of angry aggressive MAHAs. afraid, and even blocked by Trump from doing his job, after covering his entire campaign and actually believing that he had developed a good relationship, Acosta was pretty shocked to be treated so poorly, which there’s no question that he was-for asking questions that this outrageously entitled and not particularly honest person didn’t feel any obligation to answer at all, when the fact is, he signed up for it-it simply comes with the job.
So, my friends and I disagree on the issue of the media, whether it matters who controls it , because that ownership can and apparently does affect the integrity of the news we end up getting-or not getting. They don’t think it matters one bit. I strongly disagree. Jim Acosta disagrees too. I admire reporters like him, and like Dan Rather, who push forward even when what should be safe-since theoretically we aren’t in a war zone-isn’t safe professionally and even, increasingly, physically. As time moves on and MAHAs continue to feed off of making America hate again, and we have this impulsive, rather reckless, inexperienced person who, at times, literally formulates policy via Twitter at 3 am after consulting with no one-watching him (probably) accidentally mistake and tweet the percentage of people who want him impeached as his approval rating, a staff member issuing a correction explaining the situation-and getting fired-then watching this impulsive person’s wheels start turning-we’re seeing this on Twitter-“I really need my approval rating to be higher-Dubbya really brought HIS ratings up by going to WAR! That’s it! I need to be a WAR PRESIDENT!” Then, as we watch, he starts openly musing-then lands on Iran. This person who got fraudulent draft deferments at least 4 times to avoid war himself feels no more empathy for other young men than Dubbya did when he got us into war with Iraq by lying to Congress about WMDs he knew the proof he claimed to have didn’t exist. Reporting about Dubbya’s own draft dodging was actually what Dan Rather got fired for-Dubbya’s family is top level wealth and power, and they silenced the flow of information on the entire thing. That was a really unfair thing to do to Mr. Rather, but it was at least as unfair to us because we deserved and even needed to know that we were sending our young people into situations THEY weren’t willing to endure themselves. Worse, it started the trend we are dealing with today of having our news cherry picked for us, giving us only the parts that serve the interests of those in power, instead of what’s true, bad or good. Jim Acosta was pretty much where the accusation of fake news started. Anything this administration doesn’t like is automatically dismissed as being fake news, reporters heckled and threatened with physical harm. This is a president who was particularly ill prepared for the job-that’s not a liberal or democratic POV, it’s just a fact-and this is important because this unexpected president seems to have a great deal to hide. His open adoration of some of the most heinous dictators known to man, and some evidence of his alliances with some of those people, possibly having financed him to some extent-these things aren’t merely a source of scandal and idle curiosity as they would likely be if he was still the reality tv shill-these are issues that can compromise our national security, our safety, what’s left of our integrity, and our freedom, things that aren’t just none of our business but are things that very much are our business and definitely are concerning. This book explains to bright people like my friends who want to dismiss the fact that these things really do matter-our free press is a fundamental thing that separates us from communist countries. I fail to understand why MAHAs are so up in arms about the concept of health care for all being *gasp*”socialist”! but being in lock step with communist Russia, our president possibly even owing them money for all we know-and definitely being extremely chummy with Russia, and a baffling number of close associates being chummy with them too-having man crushes on dictators of China, North Korea, and especially Russia-dancing so closely and covertly with communism doesn’t seem to upset the MAHAs, who seem to be chronically enraged by the smallest of things, yet these potentially huge things don’t seem to bother them at all. Regardless, the freedom to report ethically and truthfully used to set us apart from these other powerful but potentially dangerous nations. These days, we are apparently buying news stories and burying them so people don’t find out, we are cherry picking our truth and calling anything that’s inconvenient, from legit SAT scores to possible interference in our elections, “fake” or, if completely busted, “alternate facts”. Lies are only for OTHERS, never applying to this administration, it’s alternate facts at most. Our reporters not only deserve but we NEED them to be able to report the truth without fear. This book explains this very well.

In 2007, a few years after purchasing Bedlam Farm in upstate New York, Jon Katz met Maria Wulf, a quiet, sensitive artist hoping to rekindle her creative spark. Jon, like her, was introspective yet restless, a writer struggling to find his purpose. He felt a connection with her immediately, but a formidable obstacle stood in the way: Maria' s dog, Frieda. A rottweiler-shepherd mix who had been abandoned by her previous owner in the Adirondacks, where she lived in the wild for several years, Frieda was ferociously protective and barely tamed.

Warning: The Subtitle IS Actually The Book

As a lifelong rescuer and lover of animals, I really enjoy true stories about animals, they make me happy! The main title, in large print, says "The Second Chance Dog". What I DIDN'T pick up on was the subtitle, in itty bitty teeny print, " A Love Story". Consider that, and my review, a WARNING. This is maybe 2% about this dog, and 98% about the author's lust for the dog's owner, Maria. Maria is so beautiful, talented, self-depreciating, modest, shapely, kind, sweet, virtuous, sexy, warm, friendly, desirable, etc etc etc. It got to where every time I heard the name Maria, how much he desired her, how hard to get she was playing(?), along with a big old pile of her endless virtues, I started to throw up in my mouth a little bit. This was SO not what I had signed up for when I purchased a book called The Second Chance Dog. I didn't realize the dog was actually Jon Katz, and I'm REALLY not kidding about that. I had read several books by this author, mostly about Border Collies, but a few about other animals, one was a very entertaining story about a donkey he rescued, so I had NO reason to suspect that this was actually a story about a love-struck and, frankly, horny old guy who didn't particularly even like the dog, but was willing to endure her complicated nature to get next to her owner. There was one genuinely interesting part of this book where he traced this dog's history, uncovering a very heartbreaking and literally heroic history that explained why this dog was so challenging to deal with and definitely meant to be on this earth. It's that 2% (at most) of the book that bumps this up from 1 star to 2.There is one other thing that really bothers me about this book. The author feels very strongly that it's foolish and incorrect to assign anthropomorphism to any animal. I'm here to tell you, the guy is just flat wrong, and I'm stunned that he's managed to make a pretty nice living writing about his entertaining and heartwarming experiences with animals when he has no belief that they possess individual personalities and the ability to feel and express emotions every bit as real as humans do. I wanted to send him a picture of my first Papillon literally taking his head, wrapping it around my neck, and hugging me tightly with such obvious love, something he did his entire life and only with me. Or his companion Papillon, who literally rocked his tiny body in perfect rhythm to songs that he liked, smiling-and only with my son, who always knew which songs this music loving dancing dog would and wouldn't like. Or my poodle, who grieved so hard for his companion after her death, he refused to ever step foot in the dog house they had shared, ever again, to the day he died, several years later. I have a lot of pictures and stories about the emotions, personalities, and behavior-good, bad, ornery and sweet- that my various pets have demonstrated. His characterization of animals not really having feelings every bit as legitimate as humans was surprising and offensive. And wrong. This was a very disappointing book except for the backstory about this difficult dog's early life, which was amazing.
