Historia
Sam and Sadie—two college friends, often in love, but never lovers—become creative partners in a dazzling and intricately imagined world of video game design, where success brings them fame, joy, tragedy, duplicity, and, ultimately, a kind of immortality. It is a love story, but not one you have heard before.

Historia
On his last combat deployment, Lt. Cmdr. James Reece's entire team was killed in an ambush that also claimed the lives of the aircrew sent in to rescue them. But when those dearest to him are murdered on the day of his homecoming, Reece discovers that this was not an act of war by a foreign enemy but a conspiracy that runs to the highest levels of government. Now, with no family and free from the military's command structure, Reece applies the lessons that he's learned in over a decade of constant warfare toward revenge.

Serial killer of the English language
Revisado: 08-23-22
Jack Carr grasped his non-refillable, disposable, Bic .09 mm black ink ballpoint. Putting his lethal instrument to the Staples brand lightweight computer paper, he searched his memory bank for an appropriate participle to begin his saga of blood-drenched sentimentality and crackpot political theorizing. Finding none, Carr deftly unscrewed the plastic twist-off cap to the glass Starbucks single serve cappuccino container. No problem for him:: he’d been training for this moment his entire life…. Carr’s write is remarkably bad - he has never met an infinitive he wouldn’t split, nor a participle he won’t dangle! His sex scenes are sophomoric, his philosophizing predictable, and the reminiscing about his dead wife and daughter (don’t forget the unborn son) are tedious and repetitive!
But, boy can he write an action scene!! Not sure if it’s really necessary to describe the make, model and weight of each bullet, and knowing the muzzle velocity is perhaps not mandatory! But the Bad Guys get dead with reassuring regularity and the Good Guys survive to the next book. So who am I to complain!
Park City Utah - Dedicated to Lauren and Lucy, and the embryo. (Oh wait, they’re all dead)

Disappointing
Revisado: 05-04-22
This book had so much potential! Recreating the eruption of Vesuvius through historical characters intermixed with fictional ones, in the hands of a good storyteller should have been gripping and informative. But the author squandered the opportunity, choosing to focus on lurid and pointless details which derailed the narrative. Harris is capable of so much more. And the arch, know-it-all narration didn’t add to the experience.

Still a gripping story, marred by hysterical narration.
Revisado: 05-20-21
This book is a grand tale, ranging over the globe in pursuit of the meaning of art in society. A little heavy on the "noble savage" theme; however this is defensible by the era of its writing.
The narration is frantic and hysterical, with unintelligible accents.

Historia
Fresh off his first mission back with the CIA, Court Gentry secures what seems like a cut-and-dried contract job: A group of expats in Paris hires him to kidnap the mistress of Syrian dictator Ahmed Azzam to get intel that could destabilize Azzam's regime. Court delivers Bianca Medina to the rebels, but his job doesn't end there. She soon reveals that she has given birth to a son, the only heir to Azzam's rule - and a potent threat to the Syrian president's powerful wife. Now, to get Bianca's cooperation, Court must bring her son out of Syria alive.

Historia
In 1989 Ken Follett astonished the literary world with The Pillars of the Earth, set in 12th-century England. Readers and listeners ever since have hoped for a sequel. At last, here it is. Although the two novels may be listened to in any order, World Without End also takes place in Kingsbridge, two centuries after the townspeople finished building their exquisite Gothic cathedral. The cathedral is again at the center of a web of love and hate, greed and pride, ambition and revenge.

Long LONGER LONGEST!!!
Dallas in the 14th century, or maybe Peyton Place.
Every time I checked back in to the story, breasts were being gazed upon or fondled.Sometimes blood was flowing, or spurting, from a nose or a mouth or an ear. Very repetitive! But I had a long and boring journey and this was the perfect companion.

Historia
From one of the truly preeminent historians of our time, this is a landmark book chronicling the French Revolution. Simon Schama deftly refutes the contemporary notion that the French Revolution represented an uprising of the oppressed poor against a decadent aristocracy and corrupt court. He argues instead that the revolution was born of a rift among the elite over the speed of progress toward modernity and science, social and economic change.

Worth every minute
Revisado: 05-08-20
A superb history. One wishes for the time and resources to follow almost every character into his/her biography. Does the appalling violence on display still lurk in the bosom of France?
Davidson’s arch and detached style suits the material perfectly. It wouldn’t do to have the narrator break into fits of derisory laughter at the pomposity of so many self-serving “idealists”, nor to succumb to sobs as the unimaginable cruelties unfold.

Historia
Carmel McBain is the only child of working-class Irish-Catholic parents. Her mother aspires to something more for her than what life in their depressed mill town has to offer, determined that Carmel slip through England's rigid social barriers. And so, early on, she pushes Carmel, first to gain a scholarship to the local convent school, then to sit the exams for a place at London University. It sets her on a lonely journey that will take her as far as possible from where she began, uprooting her from the ties of class and place, of family and faith, and ultimately from her own self.

Wonderful writing
Revisado: 04-30-20
This book has remarkable imagery, deft character delineation and crackling dialogue
which keep the reader’s or listener’s interest in spite of a weak narrative. The “ok, we’re done here” denouement is deeply unsatisfying. Ms Mantel is certainly more comfortable with a violent conclusion. Still, the book is worthwhile.
