Historia
Riley Morgan desperately needs a reset on his life. Pit fights with aliens and illegal salvage jobs are barely enough to get by—until a salvage op turns up a beautiful stranger in a stasis pod and a clear case of kidnapping. Helping her means throwing away what’s left of his life. The trouble only gets deeper when the stranger turns out to be a wildly illegal artificial intelligence built for assassination.

solid world weak characters
Revisado: 12-15-24
while the world building is fun and intriguing the characters are a bit to flat they are either one dimensionally good or bad. this is a fun story but the main characters are sickeningly sweet in that they refuse to have moraly grey actions. I love that Mr Kay has taken a step back with the world building to make a diverse and fun universe with this one, but it still lacks some grit and dare I say it selfishness in its overall writing style.

Everything changed when the PAC invaded. When the grim fate of his world is revealed, Gabriel joins the Reclaimer Project to save his family. A lowly F ranker, he's weaker than even the worst recruits. Good thing he's too stubborn for his own good.

20 hour training arc that goes nowhere
Revisado: 03-04-24
Ok I tried I really did but this has to be the most long winded pitty party ever....... " spoilers tldr it's a bad book"
MC is sad because his dad died then MC is sad because he couldn't save a random girl. Then MC is sad because his family won't know he is alive ect.... the problem with this is the book straight tells you the Mc is sad then has him act and perform like everything is ok only to "self destruct" by over training that turns out to be "not hard enough training". I'm 10 hours in and I can't continue. The needless if I told you I have to kill you theim / there are secret stats and powers that we will hint at but not explain for 20 hours..... I may edit this review, but as far as I can tell this is a 20 hour training arc for book two. Why anyone would want a book two when no one even likes anything going on in book one other than the basic world building established. I use that term "established" generously..... is a wonder to me.

Strong Start Week Finish
Revisado: 12-10-23
like many have pointed out the premise is quite fun. This is a interesting twist on the duck out of water trope but with a leage of villains after our main character.Honestly looking back after a some time to reconcile with my thoughts I can see why he did it.

Historia
It's summertime for supervillains! Or maybe not, because for Penelope Akk, there is still one foe she has yet to defeat: her own reputation as Bad Penny. It's been a fun ride: fighting adult heroes, going to space, and inspiring the rest of her school to open up about their own powers. Sooner or later, that ride has to end, and with school out of the way Penny is hatching a mad scheme to end it on her own terms. Will that go smoothly? Of course not. Penny's left too many unsolved problems behind her already, like ghosts, crazy friends, and angry little girls from Jupiter.

do not buy skip this series
Revisado: 11-26-17
To sum it up this book is fucked just like in a traders tale series by Nathan Lowell the author Richard Roberts loses his mind in the last few chapters.
Spoiler :The light-hearted fun of the previous books is forgotten for a contrived cliffhanger fortunately for the characters of this book this isn't the end of the series but for me it is. I understand wanting to grow up an adventure by raising the stakes but, just like with the 2nd book Richard Roberts proves that cohesive narative is not something he can do consistently. He emphasizes that the silly fun of books one and three are a fortunate system of his hit or miss writing style and has no end goal for the series or characters. The truly sad thing about this book is that it had wonderful potential for character development at a certain point the main antagonists are removed and Penny's anxiety becomes her worst enemy. Roberts with this book commits what I consider a sin in writing. He destroys his main character for the sake of future writing, and to create a forced trope. I have dropped every series that done this to a main character because in it is lazy writing you don't need to break your characters to force them to grow or show their defeats. If you are going to break your characters you should never do it in a cliffhanger ending. When Roberts ends the book the way he does he says to all of his readers I don't know whare to go after Penny tells her parents her secret so I'm going to restart the series as far back as I can go while keeping my world cohesive even if my narative is fucked. That is bad writing and worse it is straight up hurtful to anyone invested in your writing because it invalidates all character development, and most plot points up until the reset event. Tldr: he fucked the last 3-7 chapters because he fell into the worst writing crutch of using a cliffhanger whare one wasn't needed throughly fucking up the tone and depth of his world.

Historia
The Union of Humanity exists only because the aliens demanded it. After a hundred different treaties and countless broken promises, mankind's powerful neighbors forced humanity into a common defense and a single diplomatic voice. Yet within the Union's borders, the human race is as fractious as ever. When the star system of Archangel is invaded by the three greatest corporations in human space, the Union is powerless to intervene. Corporal Alicia Wong thrives on the front lines. She doesn't like the war, but she likes the challenges and the clear-cut goals.

it has been quite a while since I have listened to a fantasy audio book or read one purely set in a different world that didn't fall into stupid tropes that drive me up a wall this story is not only a well written story of a overdog it also stays 100% true to its characters it rounds out its story arcs and continues the dark Kings tidings storyline in enjoyable and compelling ways looking forward to the 3rd book

Supervillains do not merely play hooky. True, coming back to school after a month spent fighting - and defeating - adult superheroes is a bit of a comedown for the Inscrutable Machine. When offered the chance to skip school in the most dramatic way possible, Penelope Akk can't resist. With the help of a giant spider and mysterious red goo, she builds a spaceship and flies to Jupiter. Penny and her friends find all this and more on Jupiter's moons, but what they don't find are any heroes to save the day.

STUNNING PERFORMANCE AFTER TWO CHAPTERS OF HELL
Revisado: 06-25-16
I honestly would give this a three star rating if not for the narration. The recording of the first two chapters is in two separate volumes as some reviews have stated however if you can pull through whatever idiot audio director thought that character speech/thought should be at one volume and narration at another Jeff Hays gives a stunning performance his range of voices never ceased to amaze me from chapter two onwards I was slowly enthralled. the story falls into the litrpg genre however unlike most it doesn't beat you over the head with the idea that vr is some new innovation or that the players don't know how they got their. the story also focused mostly on the main character and the world he interacts with leading to alot of interesting world building while the author seams very new and I feel that he should work on not reiterating some of his points and plot developments. ( parts of the story you listen to only to have them explained next chapter) the overall story was enjoyable and the narration after some of the audio hiccups that I'm going to blame on an anonymous audio editor that changed things to ad emphasis or drama it was a good book certainly worth it.

FIRST OF ALL THIS SERIES IS A TRAP
if you are truly interested listen/read the 1st two only!!!!
Overall the story told is slow canny and utterly engaging the story is from a genre that I don't think most Americans recognize and misclassify as drama. This is a slice of life peace set in a possible world in which we sail across the stars. "Spoiler" that being said books 1-4 are good books but book 5 is meh but has its moments book 6 starts off strong but ends the whole series in a crazy fucked up way that ruins the whole point of the trader tails.

I really love this book however
Revisado: 06-17-16
I am truly not a fan of this narrator while he is OK his female voices are truly grating and his southern accents for characters that are supposed to be smart and reserved are very distracting from the main story. the sad thing is I think he could be a great narator for a different book with less female Leeds or a non fantasy premise.
