Historia
Most books about the history of humanity pursue either a historical or a biological approach, but Dr. Yuval Noah Harari breaks the mold with this highly original book. From examining the role evolving humans have played in the global ecosystem to charting the rise of empires, Sapiens integrates history and science to reconsider accepted narratives, connect past developments with contemporary concerns, and examine specific events within the context of larger ideas.

Interesting and Foreboding
Revisado: 08-26-18
This is a detailed survey of the genesis and development of Homo Sapiens, and an extended examination of the current state of the race and its possible futures. The author is clearly well-informed and articulate. The overall theme of the book is the world-changing impact Sapiens has had and will continue to have. The author's conclusion is that given the vagaries of history, prediction is impossible. At the same time, the history and the current collective behavior of Sapiens does not bode well for the future of this version of Homo.

Historia
Until the telephone call came for him on April 12, 1975, the world of Moon Mathias had settled into a predictable routine. He knew who he was. He was the disappointing son of Victoria Mathias, the brother of the brilliant, recently dead Ricky Mathias and a man who could be counted on to solve small problems. But the telephone caller was an airport security officer, and the news he delivered handed Moon a problem as large as Southeast Asia. His mother, who should be in her Florida apartment, is fighting for her life in a Los Angeles hospital - stricken while en route to the Philippines to bring home a grandchild they hadn't known existed.

Not as engaging as Hillerman's SW books

Not a bad story. I didn't feel the heat like I do in other stories.

Historia
It's early 1938, and Maisie Dobbs is back in England. On a fine yet chilly morning, as she walks toward Fitzroy Square - a place of many memories - she is intercepted by Brian Huntley and Robert MacFarlane of the Secret Service. The German government has agreed to release a British subject from prison, but only if he is handed over to a family member. Because the man's wife is bedridden and his daughter has been killed in an accident, the Secret Service wants Maisie - who bears a striking resemblance to the daughter - to retrieve the man from Dachau....

Winspear continues to engage and entertain
Revisado: 03-08-18
This could have been a rather dark tragedy, but in Winspear's deft hands it only reminds us that the dark places are real and dangerous. Cassidy's interpretation brings it to life. At times chilling, at times suspenseful, at times quite human. An engaging story indeed.

Typical A. M. Smith (that's good!)
Revisado: 11-27-16
I much enjoy Smith's writing, particularly his ability to convey the sense of a place. In this book there seems to be a great deal more reflecting on ethics and the thoughts of the protagonist, Isabel; so much so that the internal thought-wanderings got distracting in places. Still, a good "read. "

The history of Spain dates back to the Early Middle Ages. In 1516, Habsburg Spain unified a number of disparate predecessor kingdoms; its modern form of a constitutional monarchy was introduced in 1813, and the current democratic constitution dates to 1978.After the completion of the Reconquista, the kingdoms of Spain were united under Habsburg rule in 1516. At the same time, the Spanish Empire began to expand to the New World across the ocean, marking the beginning of the Golden Age of Spain.

22 minutes?!?!

It is difficult to understand how a 22 minute "book" can cover Spain's entire history.
