Historia
In the late 1950s, in a small New England town, Reverend Tyler Caskey has suffered a terrible loss and finds it hard to be the person he once was. He struggles to find the right words in his sermons and in his conversations with those facing crises of their own, and to bring his five-year-old daughter, Katherine, out of the silence she has observed in the wake of the family’s tragedy.

Small Town
Revisado: 09-09-22
This book is wonderful. If you have ever lived in a small community or have been a member of a small church this book rings true. The damage caused by gossip and innuendo can be devastating, The love and compassion found in these communities can be healing. Strout is one of my favorite authors, and she does not disappoint in this book. The narration is perfect.

Captivating
Revisado: 02-04-21
I was prepared not to like this listen, but was I ever wrong. Not only did I like it, I was obsessed. This young journalist’s story is one many of us have been on perhaps to a lesser degree. It is particularly on point for those of us in the US at this time.

High Plains Excellence
Revisado: 06-03-17
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I am recommending this book to everyone. The descriptive writing is remarkable. Those who grew up on the Plains will recognize and appreciate the landscape and the characters immediately. Those who have never been to the Panhandle of Texas will have a good look/listen to the lay of the land being described in detail so sharp it is as clear as a High Pains sky.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Amarillo?
I like the first impressions of Max, the New York attorney, who finds himself in Amarillo by accident.
What does Michael Butler Murray bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I like this narrator and feel he did an excellent job.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I have listened to this book twice. The first time was shortly following a surgery and on a pretty hefty dose of narcotics. I remembered liking it very much, but had some gaps in memory, and decided to listen again.I listened to it almost non-stop over two days. It was more remarkable than I remembered.
Any additional comments?
I am perplexed about the negative review regarding "language". I find the language to be mild for the subject matter, and no worse than tv, movies, or most books. It would not have been as realistic without the language used.
I really like this book and recommend it highly.

Hits Close To Home
Revisado: 05-12-17
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would recommend this book to many. This book brought back many personal memories to me. My sister's murder, almost 20 years ago, was made more difficult and confusing due to the murderer's family and their behavior during the investigation and subsequent trial preparation. Her murder was no "smoking gun", and a confession. The murderer was caught just following the act and the evidence was overwhelming. Years later, and in retrospect, this book does a good job of the explaining the murderer's mother and the reasons she behaved the way she did.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Good Father?
The moment the father could no longer pretend his son was innocent. The study of the power of denial is very eye opening.
Have you listened to any of the narrators’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
An excellent narrator.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I had to read, think about what I read, then read again.
Any additional comments?
A very good read, and excellent study of parental love, guilt, and surviving the unimaginable.

Historia
In 1951, the second year of the Korean War, a studious, law-abiding, and intense youngster from Newark, New Jersey, Marcus Messner, begins his sophomore year on the pastoral, conservative campus of Ohio's Winesburg College. And why is he there and not at a local college in Newark where he originally enrolled? Because his father, the sturdy, hardworking neighborhood butcher, seems to have gone mad - mad with fear and apprehension of the dangers of adult life, the dangers of the world, the dangers he sees on every corner for his beloved boy.

How Have I Missed This?
Revisado: 04-03-17
Having been a long time Roth fan I don't know how this book has escaped me.
This is a coming of age book about a young man out of his element and whose teenage angst and neurosis went beyond the pale when he left home to attend college in another part of the country.
At the beginning, one might find the pressures speech of the narrator. As the character develops it is apparent that this character thinks and expresses himself in this manner. The narration is perfect.
The book takes place in 1951, but globally and politically has much to say about our current time. Young readers will be surprised at the constant thoughts of young men regarding the draft into military service. Neurosis and all, this young man's thoughts and fears are those of young men across the country.

Strong Read
Revisado: 04-02-17
I became a fan of Isles after reading Natchez Burning. His story was so compelling I read the entire Pen Cage series. I highly recommend all of these books. Having grown up in the Jim Crow South, altough older than Pen, his books are a very accurate account of the mores and general attitude of the region at the time. This book is about human nature, both good and bad, love and hate, murder and life. It address both overt and subtle racism. I highly recommend. If one is considering this book I think it would be more fulfilling to start at the beginning. It will be good as a stand alone, but will be leaving you wanting more of these brilliantly developed characters. The narrator is one of the best. Enjoy!

Historia
The culmination of nearly 30 years of reporting on Donald Trump, Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative reporter David Cay Johnston takes a revealingly close look at the mogul's rise to power and prominence. Covering the long arc of Trump's career, Johnston tells the full story of how a boy from a quiet section of Queens, New York, would become an entirely new and complex breed of public figure. Trump is a man of great media savvy, entrepreneurial spirit, and political clout. Yet, his career has been plagued by legal troubles and mounting controversy

Frightening
Revisado: 03-24-17
An excellent author. If one is a political junky like me there is likely nothing here you've not heard. The story is a good look at POTUS in chronological order. If one knows nothing about "45" it might scare you to death. This writer has been covering 45 since the 80's. The information is well sourced and the narration superb.

Who was your favorite character and why?
Scientology

It was good
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I continued to be appalled at the abuses and teaching of Scientology. and the bizarre behavior of Cruise.

This Is A Romance Novel
Revisado: 01-26-17
Would you try another book from Dee Henderson and/or Lynn Brooks?
I would not.
What was most disappointing about Dee Henderson’s story?
It is advertised as a mystery, but it is a sickenly sweet romance.
Did Lynn Brooks do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
I guess they were all boring
