Historia
Maine, 1789: When the Kennebec River freezes, entombing a man in the ice, Martha Ballard is summoned to examine the body and determine cause of death. As a midwife and healer, she is privy to much of what goes on behind closed doors in Hallowell. Her diary is a record of every birth and death, crime and debacle that unfolds in the close-knit community. Months earlier, Martha documented the details of an alleged rape committed by two of the town’s most respected gentlemen—one of whom has now been found dead in the ice.

The strength of a woman.
Revisado: 03-02-24
This is by far the best one so far! It It got me from the first paragraph, the narrators voice, and the whole intertwined sorry. I thought it was purely fiction based on around this historical time but after the author spoke at the end, I’m going to have to completely listen to it again. It was that good and I’ll probably buy the book and read it also!

Historia
A music prodigy, head of her class, and well-liked in school, Emily Paulson decided early that embellishment paved the road to success. As she grew up, she figured out how to make the picture look even better - with a successful husband, five beautiful children, and all the required accompanying accoutrements. Then along came social media, where those pictures of the perfect life grew her a following of women who believed that everything about Emily was #blessed #inspo. But behind the filtered façade was a reality filled with trauma, addiction, and dysfunctional behavior.

Revisado: 10-21-23
I listened to both your books. You are a very brilliant writer that’s very brave to share your story with the world! It is so inspirational whether one has an addiction problem or not. Somewhere in our families the darkness of addiction is there. I am raising two grandchildren because of it. The good news is my son is clean and sober and has been for about three years. He removed himself from our hometown and put himself on a barge to work to stay away from all the things that trigger the drug/alcohol demon.
Please keep writing! I’m a reader but I also listen to audible and I’m so glad I listened to your books! Your voice hooked me on the sample! 💖

She signed up for the sisterhood, free cars, and the promise of a successful business of her own. Instead, she ended up with an addiction, broken friendships, and the rubble of a toppled pyramid . . . scheme. Hey, Hun: Sales, Sisterhood, Supremacy, and the Other Lies Behind Multilevel Marketing is the eye-opening, funny, and dangerous personal story of author Emily Lynn Paulson rising to the top of the pyramid in the multilevel marketing (MLM) world, only to recognize that its culture and business practices went beyond a trendy marketing scheme and into the heart of white supremacy in America.

This audio oh my gosh!
Revisado: 10-16-23
My daughter recommended this book to me. My precious innocent Mother got involved in several of these. She has been deceased for 10 years. She was just like most she just wanted to make a little extra money to help my father out on the financial part of living. Very vulnerable! Easy prey. She was also very religious so she really fed into it. I still have PTSD from it all and I am 66 years old! She too stayed on the phone constantly, going to meetings, going to conventions, and anything else “they” told her to do. She didn’t have the money so my father had to finance all this crap! She never realize she was spending way more than she was making. When I would hear her say “The Business” or “My Business” I would want to throw up! This went on for years and years with different companies. She fell right into every part of it. Bless her innocent soul.
BTW it all started with Amway! Reach out if you need any more information for any reason. I have plenty! I really enjoyed listening to your voice it’s the best!
It all started when I was in my late teens early 20s.
I could escape most of it but if you got anywhere near her that’s all she talked about God bless her! She was super naïve and extremely gullible!
Honestly every time I hear anything about those type of businesses I just shut down and try to hide and get away! You were right on the money on this. You did an excellent job explaining every single aspect of this almost fraudulent business. I hate them. Hear my PTS! You have a great voice and I fell in love with you and your sassy personality! I’m so glad you got out of that mess and can do what you want to do on your own. You’re way to intelligent for that! You were just sucked in and overwhelmed with all your children and all that comes with that and it started out as an escape and I get that!! If you need any more information ever in the future I can tell you stories that would just make your skin crawl.

This book has been a saving grace for me. I am a Grandmother raising 2. They are now teenagers. I have been on pins and needles as both approached the dreaded invisible line of crossing over into teenage hood. I have listened with strong intention for the help I need. This book is a saving grace for me. Now I’m about to order the book and get the yellow hi lighter out! Also Lisa’s voice draws you in with such calmness that I felt like I was in therapy with her. A must read for parents and people that are in positions like I am in. It wasn’t easy the first time around and definitely not easy the second time around mainly because of technology! It takes them completely away.
I’m so grateful to have found this in my search. There were many to choose from but trust me this is the one!

With Julia comes her family, as she and her three sisters are inseparable: Sylvie, the family’s dreamer, is happiest with her nose in a book; Cecelia is a free-spirited artist; and Emeline patiently takes care of them all.

The Cover Art caught me immediately.
Revisado: 04-06-23
“Hello Beautiful” is the perfect title to this book. I love the slower pace of really getting to know the characters with their goodness and their flaws.
It’s long but settle in and enjoy the building of the characters with their story as a family. I loved it and the narration was perfect to me. Maura’s voice helped me to dive deeper in this very personal account of many different lives bound together. Her narration helped in not favoring a character or disliking a character. . .
The levelness helped me to really hear and understand the under currants of the story. Plus I love her!
The author nailed the matriarch! She was just completely exhausted from a long and pretty tough life. She finally saved herself because she could! 🙌🏻

Molly Gray is not like everyone else. She struggles with social skills and misreads the intentions of others. Her gran used to interpret the world for her, codifying it into simple rules that Molly could live by. Since Gran died a few months ago, twenty-five-year-old Molly has been navigating life’s complexities all by herself. No matter—she throws herself with gusto into her work as a hotel maid. Her unique character, along with her obsessive love of cleaning and proper etiquette, make her an ideal fit for the job.

Delightful
Revisado: 03-02-23
I loved this unusual clever book! I kept looking at it on Audible and finally purchased it because it sounded different and I loved the narrators voice! I am a Grandmother raising 2 Granddaughters for similar reasons. It would be great to read or listen regardless of that. The author should do a follow up on a small book on ALL the amazing life quotes Grand said. They were spot on for all of us. It made me realize even more how words have tremendous power either way. Grand’s words were positive and precious gifts to Molly. This book has it all. Mystery, crime, drugs, dysfunction, goodness, hope, and much more. I’m buying the book and reading it with a yellow hi lighter for the wisdom of Grand. Yes a yellow hilighter just like my very wise Mother did on important words.
I rarely do a review but this one was just captivating!!!🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

WOW
Revisado: 02-02-23
This Podcast is a miracle no matter where you are in life. I rarely listen to a podcast but I was desperately trying to find something positive and uplifting. I am raising 2 granddaughters and I feel so trapped. I’m 65. I have no outlets except reading or listening when I can squeeze it in. I work part time and have been doing the same thing for 43 years.
I love the travel/trip, driving, and bridge analogies. Mel is so spot on and relatable with our journey in life. I would love to see her do a podcast for grandparents raising grandchildren with little financial resources to make things easier.
It’s definitely a national epidemic. The problem is when you’re finished raising them and they’re out of the nest (HOPEFULLY) there’s not a lot of time left. Mel made it clear I have to figure out a way to enjoy the ride through it and to definitely take care of myself. I wish I could say raising granddaughters is joyous but it’s far from it no matter how much you love them and want the best for them. This podcast has helped me know I have to find a way for some pure joy and to reinvent my attitude and take time for myself. Also I need to begin thinking of possibilities for my future self. Right now it’s to sleep!
I will be listening to every single podcast Mel has and read each book she has written! I feel hope. ❤️
