This is probably the WORST purchase I've ever made from Audible. The fact that this is New York Times bestselling author is pretty disappointing. The sex scenes are without imagination. and the stuff of high school boys' locker room talk. The metaphors and similes are trite and silly. This book is so bad that I listened to last chapter just to see if I wanted to spend the time listening to the whole thing. I decided it wasn't getting better after chapter 24. A total waste of time. I deleted it from my library.

Tulsi Gabbard captures the ideals that many of us purported years ago in the protests against the Vietnam War, racist, sexism, etc. The peaceful approach to problems of that era have been lost to a bi-polar characterization of oppressed and oppressor. Tulsi provides important insight into why this world view leads to power grabbing and facile solutions to broader problems. Unlike so many politicians today, Tulsi provides a reasonable road map for healing the divisions that power-hungry politicians are using to expand their own elite power base. Although I didn’t agree with everything in this book, Tulsi was not afraid to examine our country’s shortcomings while providing a hopeful path toward. Well done Tulsi and Aloha…

This was a very comprehensive, compelling biography. The author provided detailed insights into the General’s life, including direct quotes from Meagher’s writings. One note, the descriptions from the Civil War and other acts of violence are pretty graphic, so be prepared to deal with the horrors of war.

This was not exactly an objective evaluation of Joe Biden's presidency. The first part of the book seemed pretty objective, but the last third of the book just seemed like a paean to an old man. There was very little balance in discussing things like depleting the strategic oil reserve, the Inflation Reduction Act, and the impact of the Dobbs decision on the mid-term elections. By the end of the book, the author was falling all over himself ascribing superlatives to Biden. Little was said of Biden's penchant for misrepresentation of facts (Uncle Bosie comes to mind), his policies on immigration, inflation, or crime. Biden is painted as some kind of intuitive super hero whose years of experience can overcome the obvious cognitive decline seen in the past two years. Given the current situation on college campuses, and his lukewarm support for "America's greatest ally" in the middle east, the increases in crime, homelessness, and inflation, the "strategic wisdom" the author says Biden has to read the American voter and the rest of the world seems in question. Sorry to say, this feels like just another political propaganda piece. If you love Joe Biden, you'll love this book. If you hate Joe Biden, you'll find this book annoying. If you're lukewarm about Biden, you'll probably just say, "meh, another political fluff piece."

Very Annoying Narration

I should have listened to a sample before getting this. The narration is so annoying. I thought that a former Justice would have a decent delivery, but the narration is halting and the vocal variety is too severe. Breyer often raises his voice for emphasis, I guess. This jolting delivery makes it hard to follow what he's saying. I can't really judge the content because the way he reads his book is so distracting. Fortunately, I have the book in print, so at least I'll have a better chance of following what he's trying to say. The narration is so bad that I couldn't get beyond two chapters. )-: I wish he had chosen a professional narrator for this work.

Nicole Quinn just made this audiobook such fun to hear. Although Selinko's book is not totally accurate history, the engaging story made the historic events interesting and mrmorable.

I got this book based on the recommendation of a friend AND because generally, I'm a big Shakespeare fan. I finally had to just stop listening. I don't know if the performance was over-the-top or if the book was just plain overwritten, but I just couldn't continue to listen to this dark, depressing novel. I also was put off by the bizarre background attributed to Anne Hathaway (aka Agnes). I usually like historical fiction, but this felt more like hysterical fiction. Probably a good read for someone around Halloween, but not for me. Wish I could have returned it, but alas poor Yorick, I was not able!

I laughed out loud while listening to this book. Besides being cleverly written, the performance was superb! I will listen to this over and over, what fun it is!

If you could sum up Fall of Giants in three words, what would they be?

Fabulous Fictionalized History

Who was your favorite character and why?

Too hard to pick, each had his/her foibles, each had his/her strengths.

Which character – as performed by John Lee – was your favorite?

Honestly, all of them were fun to listen to. That's what made this audible book such a pleasure to listen to.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

"Nobody's right, if everybody's wrong--how the world powers' mistaken loyalties ended up in war."

Any additional comments?

I haven't been a Ken Follett fan, but this book changed my opinion of him, his craft, and his brilliance. The detail to history, the richness of the characters, and the overall sense of turmoil created by the clash of cultures and values made this book a pleasure to read and listen to. The narrator was quite amazing, and his performance reminded me of a "Downton Abbey" (or any other of the outstanding BBC productions) for the ears. Can't wait to start listening to the second book in the trilogy.
