Historia
The "maddog" murderer who is terrorizing the Twin Cities is two things: insane and extremely intelligent. He kills for the pleasure of it and thoroughly enjoys placing elaborate obstacles to keep police befuddled. Each clever move he makes is another point of pride. But when the brilliant Lieutenant Lucas Davenport, a dedicated cop and a serial killer's worst nightmare, is brought in to take up the investigation, the maddog suddenly has an adversary worthy of his genius.

Glad I listened
Revisado: 02-07-23
Unfortunately when I was introduced to Lucas Davenport it was several books down the line. I always wondered how it/he started. I was thrilled when I saw this in the Plus catalog. Now I’m on to number two!

This was a great Corc O’Conner (sp?) book, no phoning it in. I must have listened to too many though because I knew by the sauna situation who the bad guy was. Loved Louis as a supporting character. Well done.

Historia
The drought - or the Tap-Out, as everyone calls it - has been going on for a while now. Everyone’s lives have become an endless list of don’ts: don’t water the lawn, don’t fill up your pool, don’t take long showers. Until the taps run dry. Suddenly, Alyssa’s quiet suburban street spirals into a warzone of desperation; neighbors and families turned against each other on the hunt for water. And when her parents don’t return and her life - and the life of her brother - is threatened, Alyssa has to make impossible choices if she’s going to survive.

Always surprised
Revisado: 01-24-23
I am always surprised when books written a few (or more) years ago end up sounding like it was just yesterday. This is one of those. This book pinpoints exactly what Speaker McCarthy’s districts have been struggling with and is finally getting a small bit of publicity.
“Throughout [his] tenure, this region of California has spent more time than any other part of the country in exceptional drought -- the US Drought Monitor's most severe category.” CNN
This is why I found Dry to be so interesting, young adult or not.

Cormac McCarthy Worthy
Revisado: 05-01-22
I loved this book. The narration is fabulous and the story line intriguing. Right away I wasn’t sure if I would like it but I did. Jonathan Fredrick writes like a gentler Cormac McCarthy and Bad Men Will Come felt like West Virginia’s version of No Country For Old Men. Simply outstanding.

Henry never realized he was special. Sure, he’s an engineer who served his country, but when the virus hit, he found himself alone in a nearly empty world. That’s the key, though: nearly empty. There’s no one left who has the technical know-how to make the world run again...except for Henry. For humanity to survive, he will have to rebuild society out of the motley crew of survivors. It might be impossible, but at the same time, Henry has always loved a challenge.

What the fudge?
Revisado: 04-19-22
Not impressed with the character development. Henry, the lead character, must be really something because apparently no woman survivor who meets him can stand to live another day without jumping his bones. This really took away from the rest of the book and seemed like useless filler. Really thought it was stupid.

I enjoyed these books, especially since there was an actual ending. I learned a lot about nuclear fallout and homesteading and how awful Florida swamps are😝I recommend it if you want a lot of hours for one credit and a well crafted story.

John Grisham’s Latest
Revisado: 11-05-21
It wasn’t horrible by any means but the plot and resolution were obvious. There wasn’t any of the
whodunnit and it was simply a rather plodding legal murder story. No real dug down character development or explanation of why characters are the way they are. Honestly, if you’re not a die hard Grisham fan you might want to pass on this one. Oh, and Mary Louise Parker is so slow, usually I can get into it after a few chapters but not with her🤔
