I should have listened to this much sooner...
Revisado: 08-30-24
This has been sitting in my library for a while and when I listened to it, I regretted not having gotten to this book sooner. Well written and researched, excellent narration and so many A-HA moments. Great book that I will revisit again, quite happily.

Historia
In a powerfully intimate and non-traditional (or "new-fashioned") memoir, Kwame Alexander shares snapshots of a man learning how to love. He takes us through stories of his parents: from being awkward newlyweds in the sticky Chicago summer of 1967, to the sometimes-confusing ways they showed their love to each other, and for him. He explores his own relationships—his difficulties as a newly wedded, 22-year-old father, and the precariousness of his early marriage working in a jazz club with his second wife.

Historia
In this essential and incisive investigation, Leser unearths the roots of misogyny, its inextricable links to the patriarchy, and how history brought us to the #MeToo movement and the wave of incandescent female rage that is sweeping the world. Crucially, he also interrogates his own psyche, privilege, and culpability as he bears witness to the "collective wound of the world" and asks how we can move toward healing and profound and permanent change.

Absolutely mind-blowing book. Incredibly well-written and narrated. Thorough, in depth, multi-layered, compassionate. So, so good. This should be a must read/listen in late school years. I will listen to this again, for sure! Thank you David Leser for an amazing work.

A powerful and galvanising book
Revisado: 12-02-23
This book blew my mind and a lot that I only had a vague grasp about was given light with facts and the intersectionality between oppression and activism in the USA and Palestine. Fascinating and illuminating. The narration is clear and calming and I will listen to this book again. Highly recommended.

Revisado: 11-10-23
I wanted to understand more about what drives a person into radical Islamism. This is a comprehensive book that explains not only the roots of the issue but the complexities and describes why the author now is an activist working with communities against radical organisations. Enlightening.
