Historia
At the University of North Carolina, Ronny's made some friends, kept his secrets, survived dorm life, and protected his heart. Until he can't. Ben is in some ways Ronny's opposite; he's big and solid where Ronny is small and slight. Ben's at UNC on a football scholarship. Confident, with that easy jock swagger and an explosive temper always simmering. He has a steady stream of girlfriends. Ben's aware of the overwhelming effect he has on Ronny. It's like a sensation of power. So easy to tease Ronny, throw playful insults, but it all feels somehow...loaded.

So much better than I was expecting!
Revisado: 08-10-24
I thought this was a beautiful, if sometimes crude or even cruel, but most of the time truly profound and meaningful story. And isn’t life and love just like that?
And, I’m pretty sure I could listen to Michael Crouch read random ingredient labels… He has such a captivating voice. He breathes such emotion and life into the characters he narrates.

Loved this so much—so entertaining and action-packed. Pacing is so on-point, as well. I couldn’t have imagined a better 3rd installment to this series. And Elizabeth Evans does a phenomenal job with the narration!

OMG, this was soooo freakin’ good!! Gorgeous writing, wonderful storytelling, and absolutely fantastic characters who are all so well fleshed out, and who have amazing development! And both the story and characters have so many aspects that are very real and relatable. In my opinion, books like this are just incredibly important, meaningful, and powerful. Also, I can think of no one better to have narrated this than the incomparably talented Kirt Graves, who did a gorgeous job here. His performance just makes this audiobook unputdownable. 💜💜💜💜💜

The truth is, I'm an admin assistant who applied for a job that sounded kind of interesting and ended up working for the Community of Species Government. I'm the only human in the office, and basically I ride herd on a team of rambunctious shifters and demons. I also spend a lot of time avoiding Gideon Bailey, the demon I had a one-night stand with right before I took this job. He hates me, and I really want to avoid being murdered. But I've been offered a promotion that will mean working with him, so we're both going to have to get over it

Super entertaining!
Revisado: 11-28-23
I was really surprised by how much I enjoyed this one! It was funny, but also engaging and thoughtful. And I’m a sucker for these kind of books that feel like they don’t take themselves too seriously (if that makes sense). I thought both the world-building and the characters were very interesting and unique. The plot was also super entertaining, and I loved the romance mixed in as well—and also the spicy bits ;). As for the narration, Joel Leslie never disappoints; he put in another excellent performance on this one. 💜💜💜💜💜

Big City is supposedly the place where dreams come true. As someone just trying to live my life, I can tell you it’s more like a recurring nightmare where dreams get c*ckblocked at every turn. Especially if you’re a supervillain like me. The irony is that I have zero powers, despite coming from purebred villain stock, but try telling that to Big City’s beloved hero, Captain Masculine.

Gloriously filthy!! Loved it!
Revisado: 11-08-23
OH MY WOW!! This book is gloriously filthy!! And I did not hate it. Like, at all! But fair warning: if you don’t care for lots of hot explicit m/m sex scenes in your books—you’ll probably want to skip this one. Personally, though, I really liked it. And no—I don’t just mean the sexual content. I really enjoyed everything—the characters and the plot were super entertaining! I thought the overall romantic story arc was very well done, and I really enjoyed the background themes that were craftily woven throughout the story. A book that is, in a way, disguised as a kind of funny, sexy, modern superhero romance, really delves much deeper into bigger questions and ideas. It asks the reader to consider who, or what, really decides who’s a hero, and who’s a villain, and what factors contribute to those labels. The story also has us question family loyalty based on blood-relation versus loyalty to the found-family. And that’s just a couple of the underlying themes I appreciated in this book. Besides the deeper stuff, it is great fun, super funny, and just very entertaining!
My only complaint(s) are with the narration. Although I did enjoy the audiobook, I felt like the choice of narrator for Butch wasn’t quite right. For a character that is described as a 22-yr old “himbo” superhero, the narrator’s voice sounded more like a middle-aged nerdy accountant. And…his chapter headings—like, when that narrator would announce the chapter and POV character, and say like, “Chapter 5: Butch,” it was just really weird..??? It just sounded like he used a very small, quiet, and scared-timid-sounding voice, but he then went on to narrate the chapter in his normal-sounding voice. It was just strange. And distracting. I’m not sure which narrator did which character, but I enjoyed everything about the narration for Xaden’s POV chapters. I thought he did a great job embodying Xaden’s character!
Overall, though, I thought it was a very enjoyable and entertaining listen (so maybe I’m just super picky with narrators?). I still give it an overall 5-stars, regardless, because for me it was unputdownable. 💜💜💜💜💜

Revisado: 09-13-23
This was absolutely intriguing from start to finish. And for what’s considered a “YA novel,” it’s quite beautifully written, with some truly heartbreakingly gorgeous prose sprinkled throughout. Christian Coulson’s narration performance only helps to magnify and enhance an already wonderful book and makes it magnificent!

Revisado: 09-02-23
I was surprised by how much I ended up enjoying this one. This was my first experience with reading or listening to anything by this author or this narrator so I wasn’t sure what to expect, but the synopsis sounded interesting and it seemed to be sort of a hybrid of my favorite genres/tropes. And ultimately, I found that to be true, even if I wasn’t a big fan of the narrator.

Revisado: 09-01-23
It was so very great to hear TJ—to hear his actual voice and in his own words—discuss everything from his inspirations for ‘In the Lives of Puppets’ and his writing process, to the ridiculous recent and ongoing book banning in this country. I’ve been a huge fan of TJ’s work for years now, and this little interview only helps to prove why I believe he’s one of the best, most talented, and most important authors of his generation.
Thank you to Audible for giving us this awesome little conversation with TJ Klune!
And, of course, the biggest THANK YOU to TJ himself, for continuing to give a voice to, and representation for, some of the people who need it and deserve it most. 💜💜💜

So good, only wish we didn’t need 3 credits for 1 book!
Revisado: 08-20-23
The performances and effects are wonderful in these dramatizations and they’re so entertaining to listen to. I understand it must take a ton of work and editing, as well as a large budget, to produce these, but it still sucks to have to pay for the parts individually. Especially this book, broken into three parts! Those of us for who money/credits don’t come so easily must struggle for the chance to listen to our favorite series in this awesome new way.

Super fun!
Revisado: 07-21-23
This is just as great as the main books in ‘The Tarot Sequence’ series! After reading/listening to all of that series, and now this book, I love being immersed in this universe, and I truly love, love, love *all* the characters in it. But there’s something a little extra special about this group of kiddos that I adore; they bring out all my auntie and mothering feels and I just want to hug them all and protect them. So obviously I was excited to read ‘The Eidolon,’ and I’m super pumped that my babies are getting a whole series of their own!
Anyway, as I said, I loved this book just like all the others in its parent-series. I would recommend reading/listening to the books in ‘The Tarot Sequence’ before this one, if you really want a better grasp on everything. But if you don’t have access to those, this one would probably be an okay standalone or intro.
As always, I also must mention the amazing and talented narrator, Josh Hurley! I’m so glad that the powers-that-be chose him to read this book (and hopefully this series) as well. He does such an awesome job with this, and the other books, so it just makes sense. He’s a brilliant narrator, imho, and does such a wonderful job adding layers and layers to the story he’s reading, as well as giving each individual character—no matter how small—their own distinctive voice. He also just has a great voice and is amazing with accents.
