Historia
Pat Conroy's father, Donald Patrick Conroy, was a towering figure in his son's life. The Marine Corps fighter pilot was often brutal, cruel, and violent; as Pat says, "I hated my father long before I knew there was an English word for 'hate.'" As the oldest of seven children who were dragged from military base to military base across the South, Pat bore witness to the toll his father's behavior took on his siblings, and especially on his mother, Peg. She was Pat's lifeline to a better world - that of books and culture.

Can we re-record this one please?
Revisado: 11-03-21
The narration is absolutely brutal on this. We really need this one to be redone for the love of all mankind. What a disappointing shame to have such a great story lost with poor narration. The narrator yelled the story rather than live it breath it. We must all understand that there will probably never be a better narrated book than “the prince of tides” (God bless frank muller) but there are so many great narrators that would have knocked this out of the park. This narration was equivalent to asking me to play a strata-various at a wedding (I have no understanding of how to play any musical instrument.) if they ever re record this, I’ll be the first to snag it up! But unlike my other conroy books, this is a listen once only, never to be listened to again until it’s a fixed version.

Historia
After his December 2003 arrest, registered nurse Charlie Cullen was quickly dubbed "The Angel of Death" by the media. But Cullen was no mercy killer, nor was he a simple monster. He was a favorite son, husband, beloved father, best friend, and celebrated caregiver. Implicated in the deaths of as many as 300 patients, he was also perhaps the most prolific serial killer in American history.

The first 5 hours is extremely boring. The last 6.5 hours is extremely captivating. You need those first 5 hours to set up the last 6, but its a chore to get there.

We have been spoon-fed the notion that creativity is the province of genius - of those favored, brilliant few whose moments of insight arrive in unpredictable flashes of divine inspiration. And if we are not geniuses, we might as well pack it in and give up. Either we have that gift, or we don’t. But Allen Gannett shows that simply isn’t true. Recent research has shown that there is a predictable science behind achieving commercial success in any creative endeavor, from writing a popular novel to starting up a successful company to creating an effective marketing campaign.

Good but.
Revisado: 07-17-18
If you’re already working in a creative field... you may want to move along. This book will be a “you’re preaching to the choir” type of listen.
A synopsis of the entire book.... creative people work hard.
On another note, what is up with this narrator and his reading style? Why does he continuously pause mid sentence every sentence through the whole book?? It’s a bizarre reading style.

Great Book, but requires concentration.
Revisado: 03-15-18
John Hart has become one of my favorite authors over the years and this book is no exception to his great work before. J.H. is one of those authors you REALLY wish would put out 2 books a year (or more if it were possible).
This one is another great J.H. but.... buyer beware, or buyer be ready. I found this one required extra concentration to follow. I kept finding my self lost and having to go back and re-listen to catch things I had missed. This one is a great candidate for a long road trip, not a day to day multitasking listen. The good news about that is... When I go on my next road trip, I'll re-listen to this and it'll be like a new J.H.
Jeremy Bobb did an outstanding job on narrating!
You can't miss with a John Hart, just know that this one may require a little more ear / brain coordination.

Historia
Kirsten Hammarstrom hasn't been home to her tiny corner of rural Wisconsin in years - not since the mysterious disappearance of a local teenage girl rocked the town and shattered her family. Kirsten was just nine years old when Stacy Lemke went missing, and the last person to see her alive was her boyfriend, Johnny - the high school wrestling star and Kirsten's older brother. No one knows what to believe - not even those closest to Johnny - but the event unhinges the quiet farming community and pins Kirsten's family beneath the crushing weight of suspicion.

This book was moving along nicely and about 2/3 of the way in I thought I had the ending figured out and couldn't wait for it to unravel.... Unfortunately the ending I thought I had figured out was not the ending! My conjured up ending was better than the actual ending. Good book, I just wish there was a stronger ending.

Historia
Richard Papen had never been to New England before his 19th year. Then he arrived at Hampeden College and quickly became seduced by the sweet, dark rhythms of campus life—in particular by an elite group of five students, Greek scholars, worldly, self-assured, and at first glance, highly unapproachable. Yet as Richard was accepted and drawn into their inner circle, he learned a terrifying secret that bound them to one another...a secret about an incident in the woods in the dead of night where an ancient rite was brough to brutal life...and lead to a gruesome death.

Attention Authors!
Revisado: 02-07-14
Attention Authors! You are authors, that is your profession and your specialty. PLEASE do not try to be a professional narrator! Fans of your work wait a long time for your books to come out and it isn't fair to the listeners to have the book compromised by poor narration! You are authors not professional narrators. Let them do the narrating and you do the writing and every one will be better off for it. This is twice this year that I have listened to great books by great authors who for some reason feel they should be the narrator and in turn make the listening experience a tough listen to endure.... With that said, If you listen to Donna's "Goldfinch" THAT WAS AWSOME NARRATION!
The story was compelling and a great story to follow however I kept feeling like the big plot twist was right around the corner and it never came. by the end of the book I felt like the entire story turned out to be fairly predictable.

Justin and Libby Denbe have the kind of life you’d find in the pages of a glossy magazine: A beautiful 14-year-old daughter. A gorgeous brownstone on a tree-lined street in Boston’s Back Bay neighborhood. A great marriage, admired by all. A perfect life. When investigator Tessa Leone arrives at the crime scene in the foyer of the Denbes’ home, she finds scuff marks on the floor and a million tiny pieces of bright green Taser confetti. The family appears to have been abducted.

Really good...But.
Revisado: 02-25-13
This was a good one! If you liked Gone girl then you'll like this one. The one down fall I found with this book was the "who done it factor" was pretty obvious about 1/4 into the book and you spend the rest of the book listening to how they did it rather than trying to figure out who did it. None the less this was a good one. I'd give it 4.5 stars if audible gave us that option.

Don't Judge a Book by it's Cover!
Revisado: 09-25-12
Fascinating stuff. If you've ever been courious about doping in cycling... this is the behind the scenes insider story. This book tells you what they do, how they do it, who is doing it and answers the biggest question of all, how they pass the doping tests. If there is still any one out there that still thinks Lance is a saint... this book shows you some of his twisted darker sides.
The methods they use to get away with doping, is stuff straight out of movies. If your a cyclist or keep up with the sport, you'll find it even more captivating since you know all the charicters. Not a cyclist? You'll still find this book beyond interesting. The bad thing about the book... THE COVER! If ever there was an example of don't judge a book by it's cover... THIS IS IT!
Job well done guys!
Thanks for providing this in audio format! Wish Landis' book was audio and "From Lance to Landis"
