Historia
Nobody needs telling there isn’t enough time. We’re obsessed with our lengthening to-do lists, our overfilled inboxes, work-life balance, and the ceaseless battle against distraction; and we’re deluged with advice on becoming more productive and efficient, and “life hacks” to optimize our days. But such techniques often end up making things worse. The sense of anxious hurry grows more intense, and still the most meaningful parts of life seem to lie just beyond the horizon.

perhaps the most unique time management thinking ever
Revisado: 06-13-24
I have already shared this book with EVERY single person who is close to me. I started sharing it after only reading 3 chapters.
I am impressed with the quality of the concepts and the writing.
Burkeman deserves a better review than I have time to give him now, but let me say this book shines a Meta level light revealing a better way to think about practical issues.
I read a lot and there are often great concepts in other works that seem valid, but perhaps they miss the mark of being transformative because they skew reality too much to be useful.
Most of us fans of Personal Development books are often let down when an author seems like thy don't understand what it is like to live life in the world we inhabit. I do NOT get this impression with "4000 weeks." Burkeman proves his credibility to me that he understands my reality, and through that understanding, he has found a better way of looking at the same things I have been viewing.
If I could buy Mr. Burkeman a coffee or dinner, I certainly would enjoy an opportunity to do so. Well done sir!

Historia
Forty years ago Israeli psychologists Daniel Kahneman and Amos Tversky wrote a series of breathtakingly original studies undoing our assumptions about the decision-making process. Their papers showed the ways in which the human mind erred systematically when forced to make judgments about uncertain situations. Their work created the field of behavioral economics, revolutionized Big Data studies, advanced evidence-based medicine, led to a new approach to government regulation, and made Michael Lewis' work possible.

2nd Michael Lewis Book, New favorite author
Revisado: 10-01-23
Definitely a long book, but I forgive Lewis for that since it was so interesting and well told throughout.
I have known about the work of these two men, especially Khanamen for a long time and although it is the kind of thing I appreciate, it seemed too boring to bother with.
now that I know their individual stories and about their relationship, I am eager to read all of their work.
I am also eager to read all of Lewis books.

No greater role model than coach Wooden
Revisado: 02-07-23
I have been a fan of the "self-help" genre for a while there are many tremendous individuals writers, if I had to choose only one person to emulate fully, it would be coach Wooden.
His was a life well lived. Getting to hear the details of how he thought about things is a privilege.
Not only are his resume and ideas impressive, his talent for communicating those ideas in a passionate and succinct was while in his late 80's is equally impressive.
One of my father-in-law's bragging rights is that he got to actually see Wooden coach. After reading Wooden's book, I understand what that is such a big deal to him.

Too much good insights to digest in one read
Revisado: 12-18-22
I have been a fan of Dr. Peterson for a long time and I knew his general disposition toward many issues. Yet, I was surprised to learn the depth at with he thinks about many of life's most important issues.
Dr. Peterson has done a thorough job explaining the reasoning and consequences of choosing to adopt or failing to choose each of his 12 Rules.
I feel wiser just having listened to them 😁

Historia
Thousands of years ago Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius wrote these meditations as a guide for his own self-improvement, and they're still relevant today. Bedtime stories are narrated by the world’s most celebrated voices and written with no beginning, middle, or end so you don’t stay up to hear what happens next. They're interesting enough to give your mind something to focus on, but delivered in a way that encourages sleep.

best $.99 cents I have spent in a long time
Revisado: 12-04-22
I am glad that Pat has so many other fables. I like the format and it is easier to absorb and retain the principles than the standard format.
I have already purchased Pat's other books just because I like his style.
ps- I am a Toyota Way/6 sigma believer and some of Pats advice can seem overly simple, but I see an overlap of the mesages in some ways that expands my understanding of certain princies e.g. the leadership Kata

Why is Red Bull so popular, though everyone—everyone!—hates the taste? Humans are, in a word, irrational, basing decisions as much on subtle external signals (that little blue can) as on objective qualities (flavor, price, quality). The surrounding world, meanwhile, is irreducibly complex and random. This means future success can’t be projected on any accounting spreadsheet. To strike gold, you must master the dark art and curious science of conjuring irresistible ideas: alchemy.

I will buy every book by this author from now on
Revisado: 11-07-22
I bought this book for $5 during a Halloween sale. I generally hope to get 2-3 quotes or useful data points out of a book of this kind. However, I found 2-3 in every chapter and found this book to emensly valuable.
I don't agree with Mr. Sutherland on all of his points, but I enjoy his willingness to stake out points of view that are practically useful even when undeniably irrational. As an extremely logical person, I found his rebuke of dependency upon logical reasoning to be convincing and wise.
I feel like I understand the world I live in much better after having listened to this book. so thank you for that Mr. Sutherland.
If I can ever interview Mr. Sutherland, I would love to do so.

The missing link to long-term Lean success! Despite the fact that companies worldwide have adopted Lean production, none has sustained the same levels of excellence as Toyota. Why? Leadership. In The Toyota Way to Lean Leadership, Jeffrey Liker and Gary L. Convis, a former executive V.P. and managing officer of Toyota, help executives and senior managers get employees to refocus their efforts - from simply performing their singular function to continuously improving in collaboration across the organization.

Detailed look at leadership development
Revisado: 10-08-22
I was most interested in the parts about DANA using Toyota thinking to get through a crisis.
I appreciated the insights about knowing the skills so well, you know when to change it to better adapt to a unique situation.
No one at Toyota is likely to read this book, but lots of people can benefit from the knowing the principles as well as how other Non-Toyota businesses can actually apply the thinking and action steps to their situation.
The authors' communication of this is their main contribution.

Historia
The Most Human Human is a provocative, exuberant, and profound exploration of the ways in which computers are reshaping our ideas of what it means to be human. Its starting point is the annual Turing Test, which pits artificial intelligence programs against people to determine if computers can “think.” Named for computer pioneer Alan Turing, the Turing Test convenes a panel of judges who pose questions—ranging anywhere from celebrity gossip to moral conundrums—to hidden contestants in an attempt to discern which is human and which is a computer.

Another great work from the author
Revisado: 09-22-22
Brian has a tremendous talent for recognizing and communicating the depth of meaning from the mundane. I admire his ability to say something profound and esoteric in a way I would imagine it would be understood and appreciated by an otherwise disinterested person.
You don't have to be a computer science fan to deeply appreciate this book. However, I suppose reading this book would mKe you more likely to become interested in computer science.
Make no mistake, this is a philosophy book at its core gift-wrapped in technological history.
Tremendous job Brian; you are a great human confederate after all.
FYI- I would love to recommend this book to my 8 & 10yr old sons. But, some content and language are not appropriate for their ages. I am a sad that I cannot share it with them yet.
