Historia
Thinking all monasteries were like the ones he saw in the movies, Jesse Itzler arrived at the New Skete religious community in remote Cambridge, New York, with a shaved head and a suitcase filled with bananas. To his surprise, New Skete monks have most of their hair. They're Russian Orthodox, not Buddhist, and they're also world-renowned dog breeders and authors of dog-training books that have sold in the millions.

Historia
In many ways, we’re more comfortable than ever before. But could our sheltered, temperature-controlled, overfed, underchallenged lives actually be the leading cause of many our most urgent physical and mental health issues? In this gripping investigation, award-winning journalist Michael Easter seeks out off-the-grid visionaries, disruptive genius researchers, and mind-body conditioning trailblazers who are unlocking the life-enhancing secrets of a counterintuitive solution: discomfort.

Just what the world needs!

What a great analysis of the modern disease of 'comfortosis'!!! It's rare for authors to be both physical and intellectual. I like the combination.

Alastair, you are my guru!!!!!
Revisado: 01-19-22
This is such an epic story! I have no idea why it is not at the top of travel book rankings. Neither do I have an idea why on two occasions in my life when I was given a clean slate to start it all over again, I failed to hop on my bike and go around the world like Al. The world is suffering from Comfort Crisis (btw. this is a title of another great audiobook) and bicycles can be so good at curing the global disease of 'comfortosis'.

Not just listening, but a meditation too

So good that I'm planning to listen to all other books by this author. It's like the Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle, but very different too.

I loved it, but it dangerously slowed down towards the end. However, I persevered and was rewarded with a beautiful ending. Performance better than anything I had listened to before!!!!!!!!

Historia
In 1935 a young Englishman named Laurie Lee arrived in Spain. He had never been overseas. His idea was to walk through the country, earning money for food by playing his violin in bars and plazas. Nearly a century later, the book Laurie Lee wrote - As I Walked Out One Midsummer Morning - inspired Alastair Humphreys. It made him fall in love with Spain - the landscapes and the spirit - and with Laurie's style of travel. Alastair dreamed of retracing Laurie Lee’s footsteps but could never get past the hurdle of being distinctly unmusical. This year, he decided to go anyway.
