Where on earth is John Grisham headed?

This is, I'm sorry to say his second book in a row that I could not finish. The story was dull, overstuffed with platitudes and stretched to fit the proper number of pages for that kind of book price. I'm afraid Mr. Grisham is headed for a political career. He's bound to do well there. I wish him luck.

Body building steroids and the brain.

This book made me wonder. There have been countless, highly publicized studies about things like for example fatty foods causing obesity. So, why on earth has there been no study about body-building steroids shrinking the brain?

20-hour narrative about a simple inference.

The one and only reasonable explanation for this kind of adult behavior is simple. The supposedly brilliant, superrich, mindbogglingly successful and breathtakingly beautiful male protagonist who wastes a whole lot of time and effort on sex games with a birdbrained, infantile, yet legally adult female got to be a closet pedophile.

What was most disappointing about John Grisham’s story?

What happened to my - until now - favorite author? I only hope he did not write this book himself. Because it's a scary thought that he did. It could only mean that with age a man's humor and common sense, no matter how compelling, become as frail as his muscles and reading his new books turns into one big yawn, on a par with watching him lifting weights.

Common sense, wit and humor - what a relief it is.

No wonder she is making the grim-faced dwarfs in the leftist media foam at the mouth. Mrs. Palin has all that liberal intellectuals so sorely lack: good looks, poise, common sense, wit, imagination, and irreverent humor about the business of politic. She can count on my vote for the Top Job in 2012 or sooner. Maybe, if the Republicans could manage to come up with something along the lines of Acorn, I would not hesitate to go into the trouble of racking up several voter registrations. And, for the liberal pollsters' info, I have a college degree and no red neck.

Charlton Griffin does it again.

I would have never finished this book in print. But Mr. Griffin's audio version was fascinating. My next listen to it will be in Venice and Florence with an iPod in my pocket and earphones in my ear while sipping an espresso in one of them piazzas. Can't wait.

An Oscar for audio books!

Hollywood would be well advised to create a new Oscar category: audio books. I might even begin to watch the Academy Awards show again if there were a chance to see Charlton Griffin hugging one of them golden statues. It might give the by now somewhat weary spectacle what it so badly needs - a touch of class.

Charlton Griffin turns classics into superhits!

I now got into the habit of searching the Audible website solely by the name of one narrator: Charlton Griffin. So far he helped me hear stories I have read, or tried to read, several times since high school in a brand new way. For instance, for many years I could never get through Poe's House of Usher. But Mr. Griffin gave Poe's rather pompous verbosity a pleasing musical quality and thus helped me finally make it to the end of the story and discover that it is indeed a very good one.
So, now I am going to order Charlton Griffin's rendition of Homer's Iliad. I have tried to read that super classic several times before, but never quite made it past page 20 or so. I'll be happy to keep everybody who is interested informed what Mr. Griffin did for me there.
