I really had to work at this book to get through it. It really was too unbelievable too often. It felt like Mr Baldacci wrote words just to extend the length of the book. I almost gave up several times. But here I am, purchasing the next book just because it is a fun place for my imagination to go.

I had never heard of this series, but the other night I listened to an interview of the author, and became intrigued. I immediately purchased the Lion’s Game and became hooked the next day. I went camping and sat out alone and did nothing but listen to the book.

I will honestly admit that I was shocked - shocked at some of the humor, but I was laughing too hard to care. Keeping in mind that the book was written pre- 9/11, it is almost prescient.

If you love good audiobooks (Scott Brick is terrific) just buy the book, you won’t be disappointed. Now I have to have the whole series.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Years ago I got hooked on Eve Dallas' personality and the characters she deals with while on the job in 2060 New York. Then I put the series away and went on to listen to others. On a whim, I started again at book one and have gone straight thru to book 40. Wonderful summer escape. Susan Erickson IS Eve Dallas. She has infused each character with a distinctive voice and personality. I hope there is another 40 books and my friend Eve is forever.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Peabody. Yes, Eve Dallas is a wonderful, flawed personality, but Peabody is a joy. She is always good for a laugh.

Where does The Final Empire rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Near the top

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Final Empire?

The whole series

Which scene was your favorite?

There was so much to experience that it took me two days to recover from not being able to listen to this series. There was no one scene. It all was magical.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The end.

Any additional comments?

This is not the normal, fighting the bad guys to preserve the world, type story. The bad guys won 1000 years ago. Now what do we do to make life liveable? Even the available magic is unique. This series brings you in, envelops you, takes you to a new place, and lets you live there. I loved it. I will give myself a few weeks, and listen again.

Fascinating on several levels

I read this book as a child. It was one of my first "adult" reads - I think I was about 10 years old. I still have my copy. When I saw it on Audible, I purchased it because I had never forgotten it. What a blast from the past. The language was that of my childhood - things we would never say or think now - all came rushing back.

I wonder if, in this modern age, this book will hold the reader the same way it did for me in the '50s. I also wonder if people who use phrases like "She who must be obeyed" realize that this book is the origin of the phrase. Wonderful escapism. Enjoy

I had not listened to a Vince Flynn book before. A friend recommended him to me - and this was my first. What a great way to start! I am addicted. I understand that this is a "flashback" book, but it fits into any order. Love it.

I will not finish listening to this book

There are only two books that I have not completed. This is one of them. Usually a book has some redeeming factor; humor, love, poetic writing... This has none. It is dark, dirty, vulgar, and is leaving me absolutely cold. This is the very first time I was mid-listen and realized (in the middle of nowhere) that I could not listen any longer. I turned the book off and enjoyed the silence. In short, I do not recommend this book to any one - for any reason.

Under Heaven Audiolibro Por Guy Gavriel Kay arte de portada

Breathtaking

I finished listening to this book a few hours ago and my head is still full of the magic of Kay's world. The descriptions were beautiful, the story line is huge, the emotion is raw. I will have to listen again to grasp the nuance of many passages. I highly recommend this book to everyone.

Kay usually writes beautiful fantasy novels. I really can't find the line between ancient China and fantasy in "Under Heaven". It is all Heavenly.

Totally unimpressed

As I listened to the book, I was often reminded of S.King's "The Stand" - with fond memories. This book wandered around its own rhythm with no pace. There was never a point, never a place to sigh and realize that "This is what this book is about". I could not stop listening, but I couldn't wait for it to be over. Not boring, not exciting; no moral, no joy. I would not recommend this book; my life is too short for this drivel.
