John Galsworthy is timeless. Everything about this saga remains remarkably relevant.
And David Case's reading is flawless.

Very much, but it must be to one's tastes. I loved every second of it. It is long and intense.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Not possible!

I read this when much younger and listened to it just last year. Deeper and more powerful than before. I will read it again maybe next year.

Just stunning. One of my overall favorites. I read the trilogy when I was in my 20s and, now in my 50s I have listened to them. They are more amazing than I remember.

In print, Owen Meany's dialogue is set in capital letters; for this production, Irving himself selected Joe Barrett to deliver Meany's difficult voice as intended. In the summer of 1953, two 11-year-old boys – best friends – are playing in a Little League baseball game in Gravesend, New Hampshire. One of the boys hits a foul ball that kills the other boy's mother. The boy who hits the ball doesn't believe in accidents; Owen Meany believes he is God's instrument. What happens to Owen after that 1953 foul ball is extraordinary and terrifying.

What made the experience of listening to A Dirty Job the most enjoyable?
Wacky and completely out of my comfort zone. Full of humor and compassion.
What other book might you compare A Dirty Job to and why?
Perhaps Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrel. I usually don't read contemporary books, but these were very meaty, in no hurry, very well written and wonderfully otherworldly without superfluous violence.
What about Fisher Stevens’s performance did you like?
Casual and easy with a terrific contemporary reading.
If you could take any character from A Dirty Job out to dinner, who would it be and why?
Asher because he was delightfully funny and self deprecating.
Any additional comments?
Just a great surprise! But not recommended for anyone not tolerant of lots of four letter words. That didn't bother me--I am a New Yorker.
