Great story and narration
Revisado: 11-09-24
Charles Martin has become one of my favorite authors. He is able to write thoughts and emotions I could never express. My simple mind can never adequately describe anything. That's ok, because Mr. Martin can and he nailed it in this one. I have no idea how the poor narrator, Jonathan Riggs (I think that's his name) read through some of the parts, but man, it was spot on. The highs, lows, humor, heartwrenching events in this book and the narrator pinged them just right. Such a perfect combo, this author and this narrator. I have listened to 3 other Charles Martin books (same narrator) and so far all have been fantastic.

Historia
Sam Hill always saw the world through different eyes. Born with red pupils, he was called “Devil Boy” or Sam “Hell” by his classmates; “God’s will” is what his mother called his ocular albinism. Her words were of little comfort, but Sam persevered. Sam believed it was God who sent Ernie Cantwell, the only African American kid in his class, to be the friend he so desperately needed. And that it was God’s idea for Mickie Kennedy to storm into Our Lady of Mercy like a tornado, uprooting every rule Sam had been taught about boys and girls. Forty years later, Sam, a small-town eye doctor, is no longer certain anything was by design.

Excellent book and narration
Revisado: 12-27-22
The "Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell" has probably been my favorite book on Audible, and I have listened to about 200 of them. Dugoni had me laughing so hard that my husband actually paused the TV to see what I was laughing at. The imagery was so real throughout the entire book, but not overly so to be annoying. Then, the suspense at relatable real-life situations had me checking my emotions. Wow, just everything in one book. Also, having the author be the narrator is brilliant. Highly recommend.

Almost did not purchase. So glad I did.
Revisado: 07-17-22
A friend recommended this book. I had heard of it before, but always passed. I was certain it would have me in tears and be way too emotional for me. This was not the case. The story is well written and well spoken. I am not very good at writing reviews, but wanted to say if you are on the fence, like I was, maybe you should just purchase it and see. The description and thoughts of each character had me feeling as if I knew each one.

Historia
Rock and roll in the BC (Before Cooper) era was a tamer, milder world. In Who I Really Am, Cooper’s latest addition to Audible’s Words + Music series, we learn how the boa-wearing (not the feathered kind) maestro arrived at a show and sound - let’s call it AC for After Cooper - that has entertained millions of kids while terrifying parents in equal measure. Cooper drew inspiration from Saturday matinee horror movies, applied a "no such thing as too much" attitude, and hitched it to a kick-ass rock and roll band.

I didn't know much about Alice Cooper before listening. This was great, love his story, love the music. I'm a closet headbanger, so to speak, who outwardly and inwardly loves Jesus.
I will be adding his music to a new playlist.

This is my first true book review since I first began Audible 2 years ago. The content and performance of this book held my attention as no other Audible book. It wasn't a nail biting experience, which I appreciate. This story was well thought out, familial, easy to follow and listen to. I didn't want it to end. This book reminded me of a shortened Prince of Tides. I wholly recommend this book.

Hope and promises for our children
Revisado: 04-14-20
This book has filled me with hope as I oftentimes find it difficult to pray for my boys (19 and 23). I have the hardcopy and have underlined, highlighted, and written through the pages. I love this Audible book, however, because it feels as if Stormie is right here praying over my boys with me (where 2 or more are gathered in His name, so to speak). Life is busy and it's nice to put this book on and just hear encouragement about these precious boys while I'm physically doing other things. I have listened and re-listened to several chapters several times.
