Historia
How did communism become such a pervasive economic and political philosophy? Why did it first take root in early 20th-century Russia? These and other questions are part of a fascinating story whose drama has few equals in terms of sheer scale, scope, or human suffering and belief. These 12 lectures invite you to go inside communism’s journey from a collection of political and economic theories to a revolutionary movement that rocked the world.

Great overview
Revisado: 06-03-21
For people who know the history of China this is a good overview to point out main points and remind yourself of important events. For people who know nothing there are some assumptions made about the listeners knowledge but I think this is still a good listen for you.

Historia
Most people believe that the best way to motivate is with rewards like money - the carrot-and-stick approach. That's a mistake, says Daniel H. Pink (author of To Sell Is Human: The Surprising Truth About Motivating Others). In this provocative and persuasive new book, he asserts that the secret to high performance and satisfaction - at work, at school, and at home - is the deeply human need to direct our own lives, to learn and create new things, and to do better by ourselves and our world.

Great Book

Lovely book. It doesn't just yell at you "Be creative!". It actually goes very deep into when to give certain rewards should and shouldn't be there in a company and in your life. I really learned a lot.

In these 12 inspiring lectures, Professor Fears presents a well-balanced portrait of Churchill that does not whitewash his flaws. Yet he also draws on the most recent historical scholarship and material from Churchill's writings and speeches to make the case that Churchill belongs with Pericles of Athens and Abraham Lincoln as one of the greatest statesmen in the history of democracy.

Great Narration

The narrator does a great job at keeping the listener compelled throughout the lectures. I knew a fair amount about Churchhill but grew my knowledge a lot with this course.

Democracies can die with a coup d'état - or they can die slowly. This happens most deceptively when in piecemeal fashion, with the election of an authoritarian leader, the abuse of governmental power and the complete repression of opposition. All three steps are being taken around the world - not least with the election of Donald Trump - and we must all understand how we can stop them.

This was a great book that had a great historical perspective on our current events. Other than it stressed more on Republican norm breaking than Democrats norm breaking i have no complaints about the book!

Darrell Huff's celebrated classic How to Lie With Statistics is a straightforward and engaging guide to understanding the manipulation and misrepresentation of information that could be lurking behind every graph, chart, and infographic. Originally published in 1954, it remains as relevant and necessary as ever in our digital world, where information is king - and as easy to distort and manipulate as it is to access.

Often considered the foundation of political liberalism, John Locke's Two Treatises of Government was first published anonymously in 1689, in the wake of England's Glorious Revolution. In The First Treatise of Government, Locke refutes the idea of divine monarchy, while The Second Treatise of Government articulates Locke's philosophy of government, which he based upon his theories of natural rights and the social contract.

Historia
Discrimination and Disparities challenges believers in such one-factor explanations of economic outcome differences as discrimination, exploitation, or genetics. It is listenable enough for people with no prior knowledge of economics. Yet the empirical evidence with which it backs up its analysis spans the globe and challenges beliefs across the ideological spectrum.

I enjoyed this book by Thomas Sowell a lot. It gives you a lot of information without overwelming you. Probably the best part of the book was when he talked about discrimination 1a, 1b and 2. It is interesting how he shows how it applies to life. I would highly recommend this book.

Historia
Ever since we produced our course Thinking About Capitalism, customers have expressed interest in a follow-up course that could help them understand socialism in the same way. After much consideration, we determined that it actually would be more beneficial to create a course that compares and contrasts the two major global economic theories, examining them in ways that move past the polemics many of us are used to and looking at these systems as they relate to one another and the world at large.

Wonderful look at RFK's life, with some old news
Revisado: 04-09-18
This is a wonderful book giving you a great insight into RFK's life. It flowed well and I like how Chris Matthews talks because it kept me interested always wanting to know more.
I do have to point out though that if you have already read Chris's book about JFK, which I assume a good amount of people have done, like I did before reading this book, I want to let you know that you get a good amount of repeated information from it feels like JFK's perspective on it and not RFK's. Which I could see some looking at it as a positive because he is reinforcing past knowledge. But I found it at times a little bit of a negative, sometimes getting a little bit frustrated that I had already heard the information from that perspective. This will obviously not be a problem if you have not read Chris Matthews other book about JFK. And I do not think it is exactly a fault of Chris Matthews for writing it that way. I just think its something to be aware of before purchase.
Overall I enjoyed the book and it does giving you a lot of new information. Additionally, obviously taking on the perspective of RFK which is very interesting, especially when wanting to understand that time in history and all the characters that went with it. The reason I knock it down a star is because of the reason stated in the last paragraph.

For six years, Matthews was on the inside, watching the evolving relationship between President Reagan and Speaker of the House O’Neill. Drawing not only on his own remarkable knowledge but on extensive interviews with those closest to his subjects, Matthews brings this unlikely friendship to life in his unique voice.

Captivating!
Revisado: 03-16-18
Chris Matthews accounts of what was happening on the inside of the Tip O'Niell team is captivating! It really brings those years to life. And shows a very good example of how to have dialogue and make progress without agreeing on everything. Also, since Chris Matthews narrates the book you have like the style that he talks in. Which in my opinion I feel his narration brings the book a lot of life and energy that pulls you in. But, I could see it being annoying if you do not like how he usually talks on his show.
