Surely this has to get worse at some point?
Revisado: 04-28-25
I've listened to every one of the spell monger books up until this point and have had zero disappointments with the writing nor the narrator, which is an amazing surprise. It's hard to imagine all dozen+ books in the series being this good but fingers crossed!
10/10 would recommend the Spellmonger series and speaker.

A+ story, B- reader
Revisado: 06-15-23
Solid story. Absolutely loved the saga thus far. The reader, though, has some of the weirdest pronunciations of common words that really breaks the immersion. Needs a new reader.

Historia
For 20 years the mercenaries Durine, Kethol, and Pirojil have fought other people's battles. Having already defeated the Tsurani, the Bugs, and the goblins, it seems there are no more enemies for them to vanquish - even as the Riftwar rages on in the west. What lies ahead for the able trio are a few welcomed months of restful garrison duty. When ordered to accompany the promiscuous Lady Mondegreen, her aging husband, and her current lover to a summit in the city of LaMut, the Three Swords willingly comply, expecting an uncomplicated and undemanding assignment.

Not horrible but sooo much fluff
Revisado: 05-07-23
The reader gets 5 stars hands-down, but the story... 3/4 of the whole. Book is just descriptions. It took so so very long to get to the actual plot, I got bored long before it got there.

They are currently heading for a frontier garrison, after a disastrous encounter with the Tsurani. Meanwhile, a Tsurani patrol is sent to support an assault on the same garrison. Great narrator, story is sub-Rift War, but ok
Revisado: 04-12-23
Didn't enjoy the story quite as much as Fiest's other works, but this was a collaboration. Wasn't bad by any means, but you cna tell that it wasn't a pure-Fiest book. Reader was fantastic and a huge reprieve from the horrible reader of most of the other rift war books. Would definitely recommend him. I would skip the other 2 books in this series if I didn't already own them.

Good story and great reader, but waaaay too short!
Revisado: 03-22-23
First off, it's fantastic to get some relief from the weird pronounciation from the reader of the other books. Would like to hear more from this guy. Secondly, the story is as good as we've come to expect from Fiest.
However..... From what I gather, they took two books and replaced it with this one.... And this one is a whopping 3 hours and some change long. Rediculously short for audible charging the same amount as they do the 20- and 30-hour audio books. I feel cheated.

Fantastic book. Needs different narrator.
Revisado: 02-15-23
Book is fantastic. Will listen again after I finish the series! The narrator, though, has some of the strangest pronounciation of common words that it's jarring and breaks the immersion the story has built up. REALLY don't like him. Thomas = Toe Mass. Arutha = Aruta. Prince Liam = Lie-Am. Mana = Maaaaana. Super annoying and I'm guinely disappointed he narrates the rest of the series too. Will be listening to the books outside audible because of it. It's THAT bad.

Disliked the reader very much. A+++ for story
Revisado: 01-30-23
The story is great and I look forward to the rest of the series. The reader, though, I hate. He does great with voices and accents, but he has the weirdest pronounciation for the most random words like Thomas =Toe-mass and its jarring hearing them, breaking the immersion that the great story had built up. It's truely a sad detail that he reads the rest of the books in the series as well. I really enjoyed the reader of the first six or so books, now we're stuck with Peter Joyce for the next 25 books. :(

The story is great but hate the narrator
Revisado: 12-26-22
Fantastic story, as always, on Fiest's saga, but that narrator is horrible. Great with voices and accents, but his pronounciation of soooo many things is, literally, jarring and takes you out of the world you've been immersed in. Having to *make* myself listen to the books in the 33-book saga that use him instead of being excited about them.
