Historia
In So You Want to Talk About Race, Ijeoma Oluo offers a contemporary, accessible take on the racial landscape in America, addressing head-on such issues as privilege, police brutality, intersectionality, micro-aggressions, the Black Lives Matter movement, and the "N" word. Perfectly positioned to bridge the gap between people of color and white Americans struggling with race complexities, Oluo answers the questions listeners don't dare ask and explains the concepts that continue to elude everyday Americans.

I appreciated this book, and all the anecdotal stories were presented in a way that reminded me of cringe moments on the office. The narration was great as well.

Lots of emotions listening to this. There were times I wanted to shut it off and times I couldn’t stop listening and sometimes those coincided with each other, at the end I was glad for the experience.

I wasn’t a fan of the writers sense of humor. I also didn’t enjoy the assumption I didn’t want to know the nitty gritty details. Also it was weird how many quotes there were and I now understand why writing professors sometimes put a limit on them.

Historia
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

Love Jeanette
Revisado: 08-24-22
Never knew anything about Jeanette but am always so curious about hollywood childhoods and the kind of backwards childhood that CAN be. Her story is so emotional, her attitude as she tells it is so hardened and somewhat catty for lack of a better term and I loved it. There’s a quality sense of humor and irony. I was brought to tears within the first 3 minutes and several times within. I wish her so much the best in life and am grateful to have heard her story and with her own voice. I have a whole different set of mommy issues but the bag of mixed emotions she was dealing with is oh so relatable. Highly recommend. I love her personality.

Historia
From the creator of the beloved and universally acclaimed television series BoJack Horseman, a fabulously off-beat collection of short stories about love - the best and worst thing in the universe. Equally at home with the surreal and the painfully relatable (and both at once), Bob-Waksberg delivers a killer combination of humor, romance, whimsy, cultural commentary, and crushing emotional vulnerability.

I love Raphael Bob-Waksberg
Revisado: 01-14-22
The writer of my favorite show, BoJack Horseman, does not disappoint. He has an amazing way of narrating the mundane while simultaneously pulling your heart strings in such a light handed manner. Or finding ways to make the outlandish mundane in a laughable way that really showcases the human condition. I could not love this writer more and will continue to consume every work of art he produces.

Ok Book, Stiff and Boring Narration

Just the Book I Needed
Revisado: 12-20-21
I’m glad I didn’t let the one negative review stop me from getting this book. The narrator does a fine job and the content of the book is just what I was looking for. Most other books on codependency are for victims in an unhealthy relationship usually plagued by addiction. However for me I needed something more for people who are too concerned about other peoples thoughts and opinions. I have codependency in the sense that my own thoughts and feelings have never been enough for me, and practicing detachment is exactly what I need. Thank you to both the author and the narrator.

Historia
Lane Moore is a rare performer who is as impressive onstage - whether hosting her iconic show Tinder Live or being the enigmatic front woman of It Was Romance - as she is on the page, as both a former writer for The Onion and an award-winning sex and relationships editor for Cosmopolitan. But her story has had its obstacles, including being her own parent, living in her car as a teenager, and moving to New York City to pursue her dreams. Through it all, she looked to movies, TV, and music as the family and support systems she never had.

Not quite a self help book
Revisado: 12-07-21
Loved the story. Adored her narration. I did however buy this thinking it would have less personal references and more of the how to part. But it’s a great book to feel less like an alien and get validation. I was more looking for instruction on lessening the codependency that I assume comes from not liking being around just myself.
