I love the history in this book. It’s the kind of book you can read for the story and the lessons.

I really enjoyed the first chapter of this book. It gave me a lot to think about and honestly, even though it’s roughly 10 minutes, it’s the most valuable part of the book in my opinion. I will likely share this story with others and recommend this chapter.

The chapters (and half chapters) with stories in them were also thought provoking but the rest of the book just felt like filler. I did listen to the book over the course of a weekend and maybe I feel this way because I did listen so quickly, but the farther in to the book I got, the less likable and disconnected with current consumer landscapes the author was. I especially disagreed with the author’s stance in the chapter about customer service. And I wish he had left the chapter about pornography out completely, (since it is a business book.)

Overall, the author is a great storyteller, and his first story does trigger a different way of thinking but I would not take some of the advice and chapters in this book to work with me in 2024.

A couple of very minor audio issues but otherwise a great listen. Something really great to listen to in the morning during breakfast or meditation.

I expected something different

I expected a powerful message from a woman leader but instead it was just a dictionary type book where the author chose words that were meaningful to her and made the definitions up based on how they resonated with her. I think this would be a good exercise for someone to do for reflection or journaling but in book form, especially audiobook form it was pretty bad. I didn’t finish it. I only made it to the letter D.

Great stories and lessons in this book. I don’t agree with all of them and there are parts that could be considered not “HR Friendly” so it can’t be a book to read/listen to with coworkers. But it’s a good book to listen to as an individual.

There’s something about the narrator…

I can’t tell if she’s bored, reading in a sarcastic tone or trying to sound condescending. I made it to the part where she started outlining each chapter of the book and I had to turn it off. I tried multiple speeds and nothing helped. I really wish Audible was like Siri and you could choose the voice you like. Anyway, Her voice was literally depressing me. I hope they get another narrator soon.

The other reviews mentioned the narrator and I thought there's no way it can be that odd because of gender. It is. The narrator is a man reading a woman's story and he isn't even that good at reading it. His pacing is off, he messes up in several places and he slurs some of the words. The story overall is nothing profound but the narration makes it hard to listen to.
