Wow… Read or Listen Immediately. Incredibly well written and produced for print/audio - blew it out of the park.
Revisado: 11-05-21
This series by Kerri Maniscalco it just… *chef’s kiss* - the world building, character arch for Emilia, and writing style is just riveting. I love how she paints the world and word phrasing to describe both simple and complex scenes. The slow burn throughout was well done without longing and waiting for the next moment but not just instant gratification like we think we want. Marisa Calin did an EXCELLENT job narrating for audible and I was incredibly impressed and pleased but the performance. The editing and production style of extra work with perfect but not overly frequent music or voice echo to dramatize an important moment added to the heart thumping anticipation and suspense. Overall the team that worked on both the written and narrated work blew it out of the park. I wish I could re read this again for the first time and will definitely be anxiously waiting the next book.

In The Book of Life, Diana and Matthew time-travel back from Elizabethan London to make a dramatic return to the present - facing new crises and old enemies. Wow... Just Wow
Revisado: 10-17-18
I absolutely love this series. This was my second time reading/ 1st listening and I was happily surprised that I enjoyed it more the second time around. The way the book concludes, while making similarities to our world and trials of human interaction today, is simply beautiful. Such strong, flawed and remarkable characters and character development embedded with an incredible plot, message, and historical implementation.
I loved each phase of this series and it’s development.
Lastly, I was blown away by Jennifer Ikeda’s performance. The voices, accents, tone, cadence, and inflection- was remarkable. What a talented story teller. I have listened to many and she is now, by far, my favorite. Well done all around.

What an incredible orator and story
Revisado: 10-03-18
I read these books about a year ago and fell in love with them. I wanted to re-read them prior to reading times convert. I was hesitant as I didn’t have time so I decided to download them on Audible, sometimes this speaker makes or breaks the story. I was blown away at this performance. Throughout the entire book, the accents achieved, the voice changes and inflections, to me genuinely represented what I had conjured up in my mind the first time I read the actual books. I love the story so much, I love the characters, and the performance was one of the best I’ve heard to date, and I have heard very many.

Simple and drawn out with ridiculous characters
Revisado: 08-05-17
1 - I like my protagonists strong and capable as the next person however this one had my eyes rolling just too entirely much.
2- I am so upset over the poor and ridiculous character development of every female character in this story line. It borders the ridiculous as each female is petty, jealous, demure and incapable of making decisions that inspire respect. I understand if it serves the storyline but even some respectable qualities would have only enhanced the story line. This angered me.
3. Poor storyline. There is entirely too much emphasis on how much of a warrior and perfect the protagonist is from physical capabilities and it gets overly redundant. We get it - wish more time was spent on the actual plot and story development instead of 2/3 of the story spent expressing how amazing the character is...
I was hoping this would get better by the second book. Part way through and it hasnt. I like to finish through with story lines but I am so frustrated at the poor character these people were developed as.

I read the reviews and decided to download this book. At first I thought I wouldn't be finishing it and decided to stick it out another hour or two and am so incredibly glad I did. It's amazing the emotions a story can stir within you. I cannot wait until book 2. The author is an incredible writer and the orator did an absolutely fantastic job.
