Meditations is former U.S. President Bill Clinton's favorite book. This audio consists of a series of personal writings by Marcus Aurelius, Roman Emperor 161-180 AD, setting forth his ideas on Stoic philosophy.

Good, but there's better to be had
Revisado: 09-29-18
Marcus Aurelius' writings have survived for nearly 2000 years and many different translations. While this one is definitely readable (listenable?), there is in my opinion a better, more modern translation. And that would be the one by Gregory Hayes. I don't think that one is available in audio format however.

Every leader must be ready and willing to take charge, to make hard, crucial calls for the good of the team and the mission. Something much more difficult to understand is that in order to be a good leader, one must also be a good follower. This is a dichotomy - a Dichotomy of Leadership. It is, as authors Jocko Willink and Leif Babin explained in their best-selling first audiobook, Extreme Ownership, “Simple, Not Easy”.

Extreme Ownership 2.0
Revisado: 09-29-18
I am admittedly a Jocko fanboy, having read Extreme Ownership, Discipline Equals Freedom, and a frequent listener of his podcast. This book was what I expected it to be and that is a continuation of EO. Jocko and Leif each narrate the chapters they wrote. The listener gets a little "extra", an intangible, listening to the stories from the men who lived them. I highly recommend you to download, plug in your headphones, and "Standby to Get Some!"

Historia
Stoicism is tailored for the “good life.” It doesn’t emphasize abstract, philosophical musings, like many other philosophies that might seem irrelevant to day-to-day life. It doesn’t require an education, a stellar IQ, or wealth to begin following its principles. One of its major thinkers was actually a slave, and another was an emperor. Clearly it’s a philosophy as applicable to those at top as to those at the bottom, to those who’ve known the best of life as to those who’ve known the worst, to the rich as to the poor, to the healthy as to the sick - because there are no true obstacles to bettering ourselves.

Good Introduction
Revisado: 09-24-18
As a recent study of Stoicism, I found this a good second book to Meditations by Marcus Aurelius. The narrator has a soothing voice akin to those old self help audio books designed to be listened to in your sleep.

This compassionate, personal, and illuminating work of nonfiction draws on the author's celebrated work as a director of socially conscious theater to connect listeners with the power of an ancient artistic tradition. For years Bryan Doerries has been producing ancient tragedies for current and returned servicemen and women, addicts, tornado and hurricane victims, and a wide range of other at-risk people in society.

Can't recommend this enough
Revisado: 09-18-18
My only regret after listening to this book is that Adam Driver doesn't narrate any others. Kudos to the author for his passion and dedication to such an important topic, and kudos to Adam Driver for his powerful and dramatic performance in his narration. I've gained a newfound respect for him as an actor because of this performance.

Chris tells the story of one American FSO who believed in serving his country in very foreign lands. From the hilariously morbid bureaucracy of South India to the blood-soaked streets of Rwanda, to civil war in Liberia, and to the creation of a new country in South Sudan, this memoir should make us all shake our heads with wonder and pride at the sacrifices our diplomats make for America.

Better Than Expected
Revisado: 09-14-18
To be honest, this would probably not have been the most exciting read, but the narration makes all the difference. Its quite obvious the author has a sense of humor and is a little cynical and that really comes through in the narration. Having the author as the narrator helps in that regard. Some funny, and sometimes scary, stories of life in public service overseas, written and narrated by somewhat of a smarta**.

Historia
Before Theodore Roosevelt - or "Teddy," as he is more commonly known - became the 26th president of the United States, he served as the Lieutenant Colonel of the 1st United States Volunteer Cavalry, nicknamed the "Rough Riders", during the Spanish-American War. This fascinating audiobook is his first-hand account of his experiences during this campaign. In addition to providing an intriguing perspective on the battles in which the Rough Riders participated, along with their lead-up and aftermath, Roosevelt shares unique insights on leadership, dealing with red tape, and much more.

The Definition of "Character"
Revisado: 08-31-18
This is Teddy Roosevelt's story, straight from the "horse's mouth." History buffs will find the story interesting. Those looking for something more like a novel will be disappointed. The narrator had such a clear voice with such perfect annunciation that I, at times, wondered if it was synthesized. To be clear, I do not mean this in a bad way. Not once did I say to myself, "What did he say?" I would listen to more by this narrator.

Loved it
Revisado: 08-07-18
You don't have to be cynical to enjoy this read, but it helps. Each character is an over the top take on a characteristic I can place on a fellow officer that I either work with now, or have in the past. Now, none of them as intense as those in the book, but enough to remind me of them. I enjoyed the narrator's voice he applied to each of the characters. There was a mild but steady build up to a larger incident at the end that kept me listening. I highly recommend this read to any who are now, or have ever been, "on the job"

My first audiobook listen
Revisado: 07-14-18
Overall impressed with my first audiobook. While I wasn't crazy about some of the voices the narrator used, I suppose it was better than then all being the same.
