Historia
Even among iconic frontiersmen like John C. Fremont, Kit Carson, and Jedediah Smith, Jim Bridger stands out. A mountain man of the American West, straddling the fur trade era and the age of exploration, he lived the life legends are made of. Here, in a biography that finally gives this outsize character his due, Jerry Enzler takes this frontiersman's full measure for the first time—and tells a story that would do Jim Bridger proud.

Interesting Historical Account
Revisado: 05-24-24
I have to admit, when I first started the book I was a little underwhelmed and I think I was letting some of the reviews get to me. But I pushed on and after a couple of chapters I was hooked. It’s more like a documentary that they massaged to sound like a story but they did a fair job. It must have taken a ton of time to collect all of this information and put it in chronological order so hats off to the team that did that. The narrator was ok, he has an old timey voice that works pretty well with the story. Definitely recommended to those of you who like American history.

Historia
We are living through a period of unprecedented uncertainty and upheaval in both our personal and professional lives. So it should come as a surprise to exactly no one that trust, human connection, and mental well-being are all on the decline. This may seem like no laughing matter. Yet, the research shows that humor and laughter are among the most valuable tools we have at our disposal for strengthening bonds and relationships, diffusing stress and tension, boosting resilience, and performing when the stakes are high.

How hard it was to stay awake
Revisado: 03-13-24
This book was a yawn and not what I expected. I know now what they mean by the title, a little “real” humor might have helped. But in between naps there were a few tidbits of interesting info about how humor can be your ally to success.

Historia
Many people dream of escaping modern life, but most will never act on it. This is the remarkable true story of a man who lived alone in the woods of Maine for 27 years, making this dream a reality—not out of anger at the world, but simply because he preferred to live on his own.

Kind of a snoozer
Revisado: 11-25-22
A fairly boring story about a somewhat unremarkable person written by someone who wouldn’t respect the persons request to be left alone. The narration was good which helped me get through it but the content was just meh. This story is more suited for someone interested in psychology rather than someone surviving in the woods.

Historia
For thousands of years, we have set out sailing for all kinds of reasons - for battle, for infinite wealth, for the excitement of exploring the unknown, and for escape from the mundane. We have always had a primal relationship with the sea - even those who have never been to sea remain fascinated by the seafaring life and tales of salty adventure. Now in a brand–new series collection, The Best Sailing Stories Ever Told brings together such diverse authors as Charles Dickens, Jack London, John Masefield, Stephen Crane, Herman Melville, and dozens more.

Don't bother.
Revisado: 10-19-18
I'm only about half way through so it could get better but I highly doubt it. These stories are mostly boring and in no way "the best sailing stories ever told" I found myself yelling at the narrator numerous times to get on with it. There were a couple that I could tolerate but overall these stories had a hard time holding my attention. Maybe if you're on a long voyage and all of your other mean's of entertainment are no longer available, maybe then these stories might have a degree of entertainment value.

A decent story of small boat adventures
Revisado: 12-18-15
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Depends on the friend. If he/she is interested in this type of sailing I would recommend it but not highly. I would not recommend it to all of my sailing friends.
If you’ve listened to books by William Longyard before, how does this one compare?
My first book by Longyard
What aspect of Jon Repp’s performance would you have changed?
He pronounced some words wrong like bow, pronouncing it like the thing a girl wears in her hair rather than the bow of the ship. Also Fallmuth instead of Falmouth. Just bugged me.
Did A Speck on the Sea inspire you to do anything?
Not really.
Any additional comments?
The stories seemed to run into each other and if you are listening off an on during your commutes they all seem to sound the same. The thing I disliked the most was that they called Sven Yrvind, Sven London. Not sure why this was but it was a pretty big mistake in my book.
