Historia
The recovery of the magnificent gem in Lord Attenbury's dazzling heirloom launched a shell-shocked young aristocrat on his career as a detective in 1921. Thirty years later, a happily married Lord Peter has just shared the secrets of that mystery with his wife, the detective novelist Harriet Vane. Suddenly, the new Lord Attenbury—grandson of Lord Peter’s first client—seeks his help to prove who owns the emeralds.

Pretty good story, dreadful narration
Revisado: 02-20-25
It's a pretty decent story, especially for those of us who would just like to spend a little more time with Peter, Harriet, Bunter, and Charles. However, the narration is nearly intolerable. The reader drops to a *dramatic whisper* for absolutely no reason at some random point during most sentences. Not only does this make the volume vary wildly and the low parts nearly impossible to hear unless you turn it up until the loud parts are uncomfortably loud, it makes no sense. There's no rhyme or reason to when the narrator decides to talk like he's whispering a dramatic bit of juicy gossip in your ear and when he decides to speak normally. And the low whispery voice sounds weirdly--and inappropriately--intimate, which is a little creepy.

Great except for the editing
Revisado: 08-14-24
Rosenblat does her usual excellent job, but the editors cut off the last few words of every section.

Lots of words that mean nothing.
Revisado: 09-28-23
I found this book absolutely useless. "Improve one percent per day" is a meaningless tip. What is 1% of things that cannot be quantified? Every anecdote just boils down to "form good habits" but nothing in the book addresses HOW to make yourself form those good habits.
