Historia
Late one night, exploring her father's library, a young woman finds an ancient book and a cache of yellowing letters. The letters are all addressed to "My dear and unfortunate successor", and they plunge her into a world she never dreamed of: a labyrinth where the secrets of her father's past and her mother's mysterious fate connect to an inconceivable evil hidden in the depths of history.

Read it! You are missing volumes!
Revisado: 10-26-05
The abridged is a little distracting in audio. I was reading and listening at the same time since I couldn't put the book down. However, I found alot of missing valid description by trying to do the audiobook. I have no doubt this will become a movie and probably soon. It is a very original, well thought-out tale and a take on Dracula that I've never seen or heard of before. You won't be making a mistake investing your time and dollar in this one! And by the time you are done you'll be ready to hop the next plane to Istanbul or Bulgaria!

It only gets better when you read/listen Again!
Revisado: 06-08-05
Most true Herriot fan's will recall Christopher Timothy portraying James Herriot (the true-life Alf Wight) in the movies and series "All Creatures Great and Small". This, however, is a different experience. I found Timothy to be a bit harsher than I pictured Herriot on the series--even spoken as a devoted fan. In this audio format he does an amazing job on the unabridged version. His acting ability really shines here. His voices and accent range are amazing. If you need an escape and want to feel good, then go back to 1930's Yorkshire and re-live the early days of vet practice. Whether you are an animal lover or just need the relief of a book that will make you laugh and bring the beautiful moors to life, you'll never regret the James Herriot series. Christopher Timothy deserves an award for this one! Fantastic job!

Alot of detail but not a 'pleasant' book
Revisado: 04-19-05
This bio of Alf Wight a/k/a James Herriot tends to founder in detail, dates, times and even to the minutia of Wight's college records. Of the three hours listening time, perhaps 45 minutes were enjoyable. If you are looking for another uplifting tale like the Herriot books, look elsewhere. All of us knew that Herriot was somewhat fictionalized but seeing his partner in an unflattering light and hearing that his wife was not the character portrayed in the books seems a little too damning for a man that even Graham Lord admits was a gentle, kind, soul.
