Inconsistencies but not unbearable

Narrator was great!
Potential Spoilers below
Jude still irked me this book. For her to be strategist, she couldn’t see a lot of things coming. I know you can’t plan for everything or do everything by yourself. It took until about Chapter 20 for her to start growing on me. I knew Taryn was up to no good posing as Jude, also the whole Loch plot line is quite annoying. She could have easily done what Taryn asked. For twins they definitely aren’t a good representation of an inseparable bond. Even with their dad she could have told him the truth. I don’t understand how Cardan’s feelings grew so much with her controlling him. I wasn’t expecting that ending but knew something was going to come of the Jude & Belkin thing, even though he is the one who made the proposal and she saved his life. And Cardan’s power! That was definitely surprising. I look forward to the next installment. It will be quite interesting to see how Jude comes back from this.

Plot Twists on Plot Twists
Revisado: 04-22-25
This book put me through so much! I was happy to get back into the story with Pae & Kai & Kitt, but there were so many plot twists towards the end that I didn’t see coming. It takes a lot to surprise me and I was surprised by most things after I figured out early on in the book who Pae’s lineage was and who Callum really was. That was about the only thing I predicted accurately.
I adored Kai and his undying loyalty to his feelings and owning them the entire book. I loved how he was the only consistent character and said forget what everyone else has to say and what they think. And poor Pae, so much hate directed at someone who had no say in their existence. She was formidable and outside of her one dumb moment where she didn’t save herself she was phenomenal. I can’t say I hated a man more than I did Edric, to hate innocence is a crime I will never forgive. And poor, poor Kitt, that epilogue is something else.
There is one loose end that will probably never be tied with the previous Queen and her lover. I also think there is room for a spin-off series.
The narrators did an excellent job. My first 5 star read this year.

Historia
Bree Matthews is alone. She exiled herself from the Legendborn Order, cut her ancestral connections, and turned away from the friends who can’t understand the impossible cost of her powers. This is the only way to keep herself—and those she loves—safe. But Bree’s decision has come with a terrible price: an unbreakable bargain with the Shadow King himself, a shapeshifter who can move between humanity, the demon underworld, and the Legendborn secret society.

Reread the 1st 2 books, not a trilogy.
Revisado: 03-30-25
I highly recommend rereading the first 2 books before this one. I didn’t and was a little lost and confused at times with all the information that I had clearly forgotten. Which was a theme for the FMC. I loved the growth and introduction of new characters and the different POV’s. The pace of the story was a little jarring, due to the time jumps that were occurring in the beginning and jumping from POV to POV, and then for a good stretch of the story that stops happening. Lastly, I wasn’t expecting this book to go where it did. I thought this was a trilogy but the way this ended and all the storylines that are left unfinished, it definitely is not a trilogy.
The narrators did a phenomenal job. Highly recommend listening.

Historia
Twenty-four-year-old Saeris Fane is good at keeping secrets. No one knows about the strange powers she possesses or the fact that she has been picking pockets and stealing from the Undying Queen's reservoirs for as long as she can remember. But a secret is like a knot. Sooner or later, it is bound to come undone. When Saeris comes face-to-face with Death himself, she inadvertently reopens a gateway between realms and is transported to a land of ice and snow. The Fae have always been the stuff of myth, of legend, of nightmares… but it turns out they're real.

Hard to Put Down Once Started
Revisado: 12-09-24
Very few books/audiobooks make me want to read/listen all the way through nonstop. This is one of them. While there was some predictable tropes and aspects it still had some major twists and turns that I didn’t see coming. And the narrators were phenomenal! Highly recommend and can’t wait for the next book in the series.

Historia
My whole world changed when I stepped inside the academy. Nothing is right about this place or the other students in it. Here I am, a mere mortal among gods...or monsters. I still can't decide which of these warring factions I belong to, if I belong at all. I only know the one thing that unites them is their hatred of me. Then there's Jaxon Vega. A vampire with deadly secrets who hasn't felt anything for a hundred years.

FMC is a little too guy obsessed and Slow Awareness
Revisado: 07-08-24
Narrators were great! The story took a long time to actually fill the reader or FMC in on what was going on. The FMC was all about a guy she just met and didn’t listen to her inner voice or see reason or care about herself and her health which got annoying after a while. Especially since she could have used her time with him asking important questions. Overall the storyline was decent.

Definitely worth the read!
Revisado: 03-28-24
This book was pretty good. My biggest complaint is that the ending felt rushed and it is a standalone. Other than that I thought it was well paced, narrator was very unique and really got into the FMC character. I also liked the use of technology verbiage and the different take on the supernatural’s. I would definitely recommend!

Good but not like the previous books
Revisado: 12-22-23
Nina was almost like a completely different character in this book, and because of it, the book felt drawn out, like Nina wasn’t smart enough to be ahead of the antagonist and was constantly second guessing herself.
Also the narrator towards the end of the book had Kegal sounding like Dubin which was a bit disconcerting.

POV change is much appreciated!
Revisado: 08-17-23
I loved hearing Castell’s perspective. I always wondered where he disappeared to or how he did certain things in the beginning of the series.
I think this book was a good holdover and introduction to what is to come. It stopped me from having to reread the 1st book just so I can relive the start of their story and to know what he was thinking through all that.
I still have questions though that will hopefully be answered in the coming books. Z

Wonderful story and excellent performance. Can’t wait to hear the next one. The mixture between history and present and character building while also hitting hard topics was brilliant. And just enough action! I highly recommend this book!
