I only finished it out of respect for Dolly!
Revisado: 01-02-23
I have enjoyed some James Patterson novels in the past and of course I'm a Dolly Parton fan, so I thought this was going to be a great book. How wrong I was! I'm usually easy to please, but this book couldn't come close. It took me forever to finish it, but I wanted to out of respect for Ms. Parton. The rest of this review will contain SPOILERS, so stop reading if you haven't read it yet. The storyline was weak and confusingly interrupted. Annie Lee (aka "Rose") has men break into her hotel room and beat her up, or beat her up outside a club? Yet they kept telling her you belong to so and so. And they keep showing up doing this while the author gives the reader no clue as to what the hell is going on. At the end of the book, we find out that Rose was bought by a bad man back home and this is why they were going after her. This is so unbelievable as if this was the case, they would have just taken her to begin with since they had her alone in her hotel room and were able to beat her. The story is also unbelievable as a huge star lets someone she doesn't know sleep in her house? I'm just not buying this either. I'm guessing the good ratings for this book are just because there are huge, diehard fans of Dolly Parton out there that do not recognize awful storytelling. This book was terrible and predictable and confusing all at once. I wanted to love it, but just couldn't.

A twist in the middle
Revisado: 07-01-20
I really enjoyed listening to this book. I especially love when I think I have it figured out, but then it turns out different, giving the story a sort of unexpected twist. I listened to this book while walking and I would get so engaged in the story, my walk would be over in a flash. The narrator is female, as is the lead character and she did a great job. The story starts in present time and goes to flashbacks of the past at times. I enjoyed this feature of the book to tie the storyline together. The end was exciting and left us on a cliffhanger so that we are set up for the next book which I would definitely listen to. Enjoy!

What a ride!
Revisado: 03-06-20
Greaney does it again with this high octane thriller! We get a little different spin this time with the gray man’s part in first person. It seemed a little strange at first but after a little bit I realized how great it was to really dive deeper into the character and the mind that is the gray man. We get to hear his opinions thoughts and perspectives. We get to a peek at his hopes and his fears. The storyline about a sex trafficking pipeline is interesting unique and eye-opening. Please keep them coming Mark Greaney!

Everyone should listen to this one!
Revisado: 07-29-19
I love having a story that gives 3 different perspectives. The readers for the three different women were all wonderful. I'm impressed that the author chose to also include the perspective of the woman doctor that turns out to be a true villain in history, but seeing her side of the story was especially interesting in understanding how she ended up being in a place (concentration camp as a doctor) and choosing to commit the crimes and atrocities that she did. Nothing excuses her choices even if it was difficult for a woman in those times, but I still was interested in that perspective and it really added to the story of the other women. Even if this is historical fiction, some aspects were taken from fact and really hit home the violence and hardships of the times and the efforts of one woman to bring home some justice. I never hear her name mentioned in history, so I'm glad it is a huge presence of this book so that the world may know.

A bit disjointed
Revisado: 07-04-19
I like the story in the end, but felt lost a lot of the way through it for some reason. Maybe I missed something early on. It all came together in the end, but in a way that did not give me clues as to what the author was going for. So all in all, it was an OK story that kept me listening to it, I just didn't see some of the connections of the mystery as the story progressed. I'm not sure if that is my fault or the author's fault.

That F*%$#ing Flowers and Frozen Chicken Pot Pies
Revisado: 03-02-19
This is one of my favorite series. You can't beat a good Minnesota story with all the elements and humor of weather and midwestern life! Virgil Flowers has been called to investigate murders in a small town where there was also a spotting of the virgin Mary in the local church. Coincidence? Virgil finds that not only are the murders continuing along with a lot of behind the scenes drama going on......but certain people are benefiting from the suspicious sighting of the divine apparition. Together with an interesting and delightfully funny crew made up of the quirky town mayor and a young Casanova, that f*%#^ing Flowers that we all love endeavors to get to the bottom of all of it...……...that is if he can survive all the frozen chicken pot pies and the small town drama! I loved the story, laughed out loud at times and can't wait for the next installment in Virgil's saga!

Historia
It was a typical evening at a mall outside Portland, Maine. Three teenage friends waited for the movie to start. A boy flirted with the girl selling sunglasses. Mothers and children shopped together, and the manager at the video game store tended to customers. Then the shooters arrived. The chaos and carnage lasted only eight minutes before the killers were taken down. But for those who lived through it, the effects would last forever.

Another great Nora Roberts
Revisado: 03-02-19
I usually never get disappointed by Nora Roberts. This story is entertaining and cuts into the fears that many of us have today in these times of violence. A mass shooting at a mall leaves survivors that we will get to know as the story continues with good character development for our main ones. Secondary characters do not get much character development. I especially like the twist of a female being the serial killer which is very unusual and takes us into her world of craziness and horror. The narrator is great and able to do both female and male voices as well. This was a great listen and it did not disappoint me. You'll enjoy it to.

Revenge meets Justice?
Revisado: 03-02-19
A great story of the search for justice and revenge...….a thin line between the two. The narrator has a style that takes a bit to get used to, but you will and you'll enjoy his vocalizations for the different characters. He'll use what I can only describe as an old-style monotone for the narration of the main character's thoughts in his head, (that takes a bit to get used to but I actually began to appreciate the style). The other characters voices are great so I know who is speaking at any given time. The author takes us through the ordeal that takes place during just a few days with flashbacks to past happenings. The main character's wife was killed suddenly in a hit and run years ago and our main character (a detective of the police force) has not been the same since. Suddenly new information falls in his lap that leads him on a trail to the truth. His focus/obsession becomes bringing the people responsible to justice...….or is it revenge? In some cases one might think they can become the same and our main character must figure this out and decide what he needs most. The character development is wonderful and I thoroughly enjoyed this book.....so much so that I am going to seek out more by this author.

Life-Changing Book
Revisado: 09-25-18
The story and characters of this book are absolutely excellent. I was engaged the whole way through the book. The main character (the tattooist) tells his story of the trials and tribulations of being in a Nazi concentration camp. As a tattooist he has more freedom than others and is able to have contacts that get things to him. This behavior unfortunately is risky. I was on the edge of my seat with every transaction hoping he doesn't get caught because we all know the horrible consequences that might mean.
The characters' stories are inspiring thinking about what they had to endure and overcome. If you read this book, my hope is that it is life-changing for you like it is for me. Beside being a great story, there is the inspiration to be thankful for everyday simple luxuries we all take for granted. To also embrace our loved ones and be thankful for having them at our sides.
I loved this book and could hardly put it down! I think everyone should read/listen to this story and learn from it!

Running through the Jungle from a madman.....
Revisado: 01-26-18
What a great listen. The two narrators did a great job. There were some slow parts in the start to this book, but it does pick up. I guess the slow parts help to establish the female character.
A new divorcee takes a jungle vacation and gets more adventure than she bargained for. You also won't suspect what he story really is about the man that hunts her. I really was on the edge of my seat and enjoyed the book once things got moving. I like the author and will listen to more by him.
