Listened on 1.2 speed- get it over with
Revisado: 02-19-25
The narrator was over dramatizing the reading to the point that she was reading so slowly I sped up the audio. That and the story was dragging.
SPOILERS*
I read this book half way and then listened the rest because it was just so uninteresting and mediocre.
After that many books in the series and unfortunately this is the simplistic writing of Maas:
“She kissed him. Again. And again. Again, again” (why does she need to repeat words just create impact? After a while it stops working)
Compared everything to “death” or xx “incarnate” (I no longer am in awe of any character or their power and roll my eyes)
Everyone’s throat bobbed and Maas succeeds every statement with “he said, he growled, she said” instead of just writing dialogue.
Her writing is miserable and listening to it makes it that much more noticeable.
The actual plot itself is not much better. Please tell me how Maeve, a queen that has planned hundred hundreds of years in advance can’t tell when word keys were not on the person she was taking? BS
Don’t even get me started on how Sardothien pulls plot twist out of her butt because “doing things in secret” without her court knowing- in actuality what it is is poor writing, and the author making up solutions as she goes. Too much deus ex machina. It’s extremely lazy.
Overall, it was extremely difficult to finish this book and the only saving grace is the smut. Which isn’t even as good as ACOTAR.
For the sake of finishing the series because I’ve already purchased all of the books I have to finish it — my throat is “bobbing” just thinking about it 🙄

Constantly repeating with a bit of dragging on
Revisado: 12-14-24
I honestly couldn’t wait to finish this book as it was taking way too long to get to the end result. It almost felt as if the scenes were dragging on, the storyline was dragging on and there were way too many love scenes for no reason.
This is not my favorite book of the series and though the ending was acceptable it just took too long to get there. It’s kind of disappointing as the first two books really drew me in to the series.

Historia
Reacher goes where he wants, when he wants. That morning he was heading west, walking under the merciless desert sun — until he comes upon a curious scene. A Jeep has crashed into the only tree for miles around. A woman is slumped over the wheel. Dead? No, nothing is what it seems. The woman is Michaela Fenton, an army veteran turned FBI agent trying to find her twin brother, who might be mixed up with some dangerous people. Most of them would rather die than betray their terrifying leader.

As always, Reacher has no particular place to go, and all the time in the world to get there. One morning he ends up in a town near Pleasantville, Tennessee. But there’s nothing pleasant about the place. In broad daylight Reacher spots a hapless soul walking into an ambush. “It was four against one” . . . so Reacher intervenes, with his own trademark brand of conflict resolution. The man he saves is Rusty Rutherford, an unassuming IT manager, recently fired after a cyberattack locked up the town’s data, records, information . . . and secrets.

Decent story but too much dragging…
Revisado: 12-11-23
There was too much dragging out of the scenes. To much repeating and restating situations, it seemed like it was all filler and started to get annoying.
You probably could have made Nicole almost 18 at the beginning of the series so that by the time her and Blake were in the underworld, you weren’t condoning underage sex and without protection, or underage drinking.
Also, the book seemed to drag along in some areas and then zoomed through other areas.
This is definitely a novice reader’s book. It wasn’t horrible but I’m glad I finally finished the series.
