Historia
Life for Lady Adelaide Bell was easier if she hid in her older sister's shadow - which worked until her sister got married. Even with the pressure of her socially ambitious mother, the last thing she expected was a marriage of convenience to save her previously spotless reputation. Lord Trent Hawthorne couldn't be happier that he is not the duke in the family. He's free to manage his small estate and take his time discovering the life he wants to lead.

Kind of boring and not the best narrator
Revisado: 10-24-24
These people could have avoided a lot of trouble if they took the trouble to communicate with each other. I listened because it was in the plus catalog. I would’ve been disappointed if I’d used a credit card. The narrator reads very slowly and it’s robotic and wooden. The voices of the men sound somewhat ridiculous.

Meh… not my favorite
Revisado: 06-21-24
The story is ok and there are a few surprises. I didn’t think the spiritual aspect was prominent enough. Also, I don’t believe in praying to angels or saints. We should only pray to God, and I found it annoying that the main character in the past sent her prayers elsewhere.
The chapters alternate between he past and present. There’s a good weaving of the storylines, however, I was a bit bored with it at times. There just wasn’t really enough going on in my opinion.

Wasn’t super interested in these characters, but ended up loving them!
Revisado: 03-23-24
I loved the first book in this series and wasn’t sure this one would stack up. Based on the glimpses we got of Grant and Gemma in book one, I just wasn’t really excited about getting to know them in this book. Boy was I wrong! I totally didn’t see the depth of what was going on until it hit me in the face. The author did a great job of showing God’s redemptive love and the struggles of the characters. This story was just as sneaky, exciting, and comical as the first one. One thing could have been explained better though, in my opinion. God doesn’t cause bad things to happen- but bad things happen as a result of living in a sin-filled world. I just don’t like the phrasing of saying that He did this bad thing or caused that terrible thing. God didn’t cause Job’s calamities, but He did allow them. There is a distinction. I wish this had been brought out a little more fully to the characters. But overall it was great, and I’ll definitely listen again prior to the next installment.

Great characters that grow and learn to trust in God
Revisado: 02-15-24
This was an amazing book. The characters both have their own issues and history to deal with, and they learn to trust in God to see them through.

Great story, great characters, but stupid decisions
Revisado: 02-13-24
This book is cunning, heart-warming, and aggravating. I loved the two main characters but boy are they dense. I get the message about honesty and the character growth, but it took way too long for either of them to figure it out. It was a bit ridiculous and frustrating that they kept doing such stupid stuff. And the ending dragged out way too long and was a bit convoluted. I don’t think real people that really felt the way they did would have been so dense and unable to see reality. I know the author needed to make problems to cause the characters to grow, but I don’t think anyone could really be that bad at misunderstanding God’s plans (like forcing you to marry someone you don’t love and isn’t a Christian in order to convert them-really?!) or taking so long to figure out lying isn’t a helpful option. The beginning of the book was so cute and sweet and I was hooked and loved the story, however, the main characters could have learned their lessons a lot quicker and been honest with themselves and each other.

Such a creative way to link past characters together.
Revisado: 08-04-23
This is such a great plot with the time jump and not knowing quite how the characters fit together. I started listening at bedtime and then doing housework- and that was a mistake. I kept getting confused about the time setting and character similarities for me totally mixed up. I had to backtrack several times to finally figure it out. But this was entirely my fault because I wasn’t paying close enough attention and then suddenly realized I didn’t know what was going on. Anyway, once I figured it out, the story was amazing! I would recommend listening to previous series first because some of the characters overlap. It’s not absolutely necessary but helpful.

Ok if you like slow-paced stories with a basic plot.
Revisado: 07-10-23
This was my first (and last) book by this author. I love Christian historic fiction. However, this was pretty boring. Just a lot of emotions and no action. I prefer stories with interesting subplots like some mystery or exciting problems. I also like the historical setting/events to add to the plot and be immersive (so you feel lost in another time and place). This was just blah. It wasn’t interesting at all. The narrator made it bearable to listen to because of her accents, but otherwise it was a snooze-fest. I appreciated the Christian aspect and thought it was very well done and important to the story. I only kept listening because I thought there would be some real problem or plot development, but nope. It’s just a slow story and I didn’t buy the romance between these two characters at all. I felt no buildup of romantic tension or anything. It was really only the last 10 minutes of the book and very anticlimactic.

Revisado: 12-26-22
This is my first book by this author, and I loved it! There’s mystery, romance, and a wonderful Christian message. The narrator does an amazing job bringing the characters to life. The variation in voices and accents makes you forget it’s just one person. Can’t wait to listen to the next book in this series.
