Old Jaffa Comes Alive Again
Revisado: 09-16-23
Amiry’s rich descriptions of Jaffa as it existed before the nabka from buildings to streets to the sea, the port, the orange groves and neighborhoods match exactly with the stories we’ve heard from our large family that fled to Beirut in May 1948. My husband was born in 1949 in a refugee camp in Beirut. The family home still stands on Aplaton Street in Jaffa, occupied by strangers. The heartbreak continues and these stories must never be forgotten as the descendants continue with resilience, determination and love for the city of oranges. So grateful for this well-written book.

Historia
All My Knotted-Up Life is a beautifully crafted portrait of resilience and survival, a poignant reminder of God’s enduring faithfulness, and proof positive that if we ever truly took the time to hear people’s full stories . . . we’d all walk around slack-jawed.

One Word Touched Me to the Core
Revisado: 05-24-23
As a Houstonian who has heard Beth Moore speak many times, read her books, loved her Bible studies, cherished her writing as much as her videos, followed closely her morally courageous stance on men sexually assaulting women and warped politics, and inevitably parting ways with the SBC—what brought me up straight in my chair with eyes popping was the word “bipolar.” Having two (probably three) close family members who are bipolar and struggling, praying, and clawing through each day with prayers for meds to work, for therapy to help and for the Lord to keep everyone balanced is my way of life. No one talks about mental illness from the pulpit or in Bible studies. What does the Scripture say? It’s hard to pin down. Depression is there but what about manic episodes? Those sound like demon possession in the Bible! When Jesus said “Blessed are the poor in spirit” was he referring to depression? I would love for Beth to tackle this topic because mental illness is in every family. And it knots up lives for sure. I do know it brings us to our knees crying for help. Please tackle this knot, Beth!
