lots of action from Nate & Joe
Revisado: 01-11-25
Joe actually shoots a bad guy. I think. Of course, Nate gets a lot more. Not much falcon action.

Rambling mush. So bad it made me delete the rest of the set. If this was chosen it doesn't hold much promise for the rest.

sloppy. disjointed. no decent protagonist. lacking detail. Is weapon used to knock out rich guy wiped clean of fingerprints? Most elevators won't move until a floor is selected or it is called, no matter how many times you press Door Close.

Historia
After an overhaul of leadership at the FBI's New York field office, A. X. L. Pendergast is abruptly forced to accept an unthinkable condition of continued employment: the famously rogue agent must now work with a partner. Pendergast and his new teammate, junior agent Coldmoon, are assigned to Miami Beach, where a rash of killings by a bloodthirsty psychopath are distinguished by a confounding M.O.: cutting out the hearts of his victims and leaving them - along with cryptic handwritten letters - at local gravestones, unconnected save in one bizarre way.

Not only was he the ultimate Pendergast, but he did amazing voices for all the other characters. What else could we expect from a shape shifter? May he rest in peace.

Revisado: 10-01-21
Too many characters without memorable identifying descriptions. Not bad for a first novel, though. Needs the editing scissors.
Reader is great, though. Not too bad on the vocal fry.

Revisado: 09-29-18
Facinating. What's the Audible word for "couldn't put it down?" Couldn't go to sleep? Can't remember a book where I kept hitting 30 min sleep timer until the sun came up.
Reader's accent's a little odd, but I got used to it. Maybe I've just never heard a rich woman from that part of England before.

Historia
History has all but forgotten.... In the spring of 1708, an invading Jacobite fleet of French and Scottish soldiers nearly succeeded in landing the exiled James Stewart in Scotland to reclaim his crown. Now, Carrie McClelland hopes to turn that story into her next best-selling novel. Settling herself in the shadow of Slains Castle, she creates a heroine named for one of her own ancestors and starts to write. But then she discovers her novel is more fact than fiction....

Fantastic
Revisado: 09-16-18
Amazing Audible readers, surely it's more than one. So many characters but the different voices help keep them straight. Accents are perfect based on my years of movies and TV, but they were perfect for me.
Two facinating stories in past and present, woven together masterfully with humor, romance, intrigue, and adventure.

Audio dynamic range
Revisado: 05-12-18
Great story. Performance of speakers is excellent, but, as is so often the case, the mixing engineer has failed to consider that the listener is not in an audio booth --not even in a living room usually -- not even able to use noise cancelling headphones in most cases.
If the level overall is not compressed, the listener gets the job of riding the gain or they will either miss much of the quiet parts or be blasted by the loud ones. An experienced actor can control the apparent level with the tone, making a whisper understandable across a large room, but still sound like a whisper. Screaming can be transmitted at an actual level that is not much higher.
When the performers files coming in don't have that control, the engineer needs to take into account the listener when adjusting the gain or use an app such as Audacity's Normalize.
We're not talking Beethoven here. I can't ride the gain when I'm driving. Or vacuuming. Normalizing the level is YOUR job.
