One of the best paranormal romance/sci-fi fantasies I have ever read.
Revisado: 03-30-25
I love this series so much. It is so well written. One of the best paranormal romance/sci-fi fantasy series I have ever read, and I am immediately starting the last book in this trilogy.

Historia
As a wolf shifter growing up in a strong pack, I should be living my best life. But after my father tried to kill our leader, I’m labelled an outcast, traitor, less than dirt. When I can't take pack life any longer, I run, but apparently they don't like losing their punching bag. Torin, the leader’s son, drags me back before my first shift...a shift that will reveal my true mate. I never could have predicted who mine would be, but the moment my wolf looks upon him, I’m filled with hope for a brighter future.

Bad cheesy dialogue, lots of author’s personal bias, good fantasy elements
Revisado: 08-24-24
I still can’t believe that this was listed as the #1 BEST seller on Audible. The dialogue in the first 3 books of this series, is so cheesy that it made me physically cringe. I kept putting the books down over and over again because of it, but would eventually pick them back up for the story. The fantasy elements in this started off very formulaic and kind of boring, and read like a lot of fan fiction (again, really badly written dialogue) but I’d say about halfway through the book the fantasy story became better and much more original. I really liked some aspects of the fantasy world building, but a lot of it felt too convenient and very lazy. The main character is one of those “I’m brave and brazen, and I know I do stupid things that do a lot of damage, but it’s not my fault that I’m so passionate and I’m PROUD of it!” It’s like the author has confused emotional immaturity and impulsivity with passion, and very much romanticizes that. All characters should go through character growth in their stories, otherwise what’s the point, but she doesn’t really. The OTHER characters all just adapt to her bullshit, whiny, bratty behavior- and they loooove her for it. “She’s so free, and loving!” She’s a boundary-less, emotionally volatile and immature person that you’d WANT to avoid for the sake of your own peace in real life. All of which made it very hard to like the character. She’s got a loving heart, but everything else about her is so over the top that it’s deeply off putting.
Last but not least - the smut in this first book is so lacking. There was one smutty scene near the beginning that was meant to create tension but was really just weird and uncomfortable, and two more about 3/4 of the way through the book that had potential- but never went anywhere. I wouldn’t even really classify this first book as fantasy romance. It reads like passable fan fiction for a shifter series, written by someone who does have some good and more original fantasy story ideas, but keeps getting distracted and has written a ridiculous self insert savior character that I could barely stomach. I normally love to reread all of the books I buy on audible, but I’m not even kind of interested in doing that with these first 3 books in the series, and I will not recommend these to anyone. I only finished them because I’m stubborn, and I kept hoping they would get better because there really are some good fantasy elements in the story.

Historia
One night, and my entire life went up in flames. All because of him. Jafar. As my world burned down around me, he offered me a choice. Walk away with nothing but my freedom...or rise to his challenge and win my fortune back. I bargained. I lost. Now Jafar owns me, and even as my mind rails against his rules, my body loves the punishments he deals out when I break them. But a gilded cage is still a prison, I’ll do anything to obtain my freedom. Even betray the man I’m falling for. Content Warning: This book contains depictions of consensual non-consent.

This book NEEDS a damn content warning for parental abuse victims and SA survivors. Disgusted and upset.
Revisado: 02-21-23
While I enjoyed about 80% of this book, as a child of an abusive home and SA survivor, there is a very triggering scene about half way through this book that deeply bothered me. I enjoy dark romance very much, but this just felt icky, and it was so gross that this was being fetishized. ESPECIALLY, from the point of view of an abused daughter. It made no sense for the character, and it ripped me out of the story. I stopped reading it for a couple weeks, and when I picked it up again (because I was determined to finish it, I LIKED this author) I skipped over at least 2 chapters. The scene itself is obviously fantasy role-play within the books storyline, but it was incredibly off putting, and honestly ruined the rest of the book for me. This is the only Katee Robert book I’ve ever encountered this theme within, and while I’ve deeply enjoyed other books of hers that I’ve read, I’m now very wary to continue reading or listening to any further. This book NEEDS a damn content warning, it’s such a common thing to list even in audible books. I would never have listened to it if I had any idea that that scene would be included, and would have continued to fully enjoy further books of hers.

Loved it. Loved the character growth and discussion of communication issues and abuse. The sex scenes were delicious.
