Glad I gave this series another go.

I'm glad I gave this series another chance. The banter between characters is entertaining and often laugh out loud funny, but doesn't take away from the main plot. This book also had a great mix of steamy sex, romance between Cat and Bones, vamp killing and justice. Just got books 3 & 4 and can't wait to hear them.

This definitely has a Buffy (The Vampire Slayer) hooks up with Spike feel. The beginning seemed very childish, although the scene and topics weren't. Midway it did seem to get better. Narrator won't be on my favorite list but she's not on my avoid list either. Will give book 2 a chance to change my opinion.

Incomplete - story and narration editing

There were several things that bothered me about this book. The main ones were that the scenes seemed incomplete and the 8 second pauses between scenes drove me batty. Battle/action/love scenes were horribly underdeveloped and if I were actually reading the book many couldn't have taken up more than 2 pages. The narrator did slightly change his pitch when talking as a female character but mostly the only difference in how he talked was if he added an accent (which again were poorly done). I might give this series one more try in the hopes that book 2 is better developed.

I first have to say this turned out to be a wonderful book! What I love best about Karen's books is although there's often different struggles/plot twists, she takes care to build them in a believable way.

The narrators did an awesome job as well and help to make the story come alive. The "rattle snake" sound that Phil does gave me chills each time - he's just plain AMAZING!

I must admit that the first 3 hours were a struggle for me. I selfishly didn't like where the story was leading but, since I hate reading reviews where others are upset/angry about the direct an author took, I stuck with it, let the story unfold and was completely rewarded!!! This is within my top 5 favorite book series!

I've had each book in this series for a while and recently started listening from the beginning. I enjoy this book and the way that the author blends the alpha male personality with his vulnerability and a strong woman's determination.

Anyone who likes Christine Feehan, Laurell K Hamilton (Anita Blake series) or Karen Marie Moning's (Highlander series) would enjoy this series as well.

On the fence..

I've listened to both books by Jessa Slade and would recommend them if you're willing to listen intently. I recently listened to these for a second time and guess after a year of listening to Showalter, Moning and Feehan books, these just don't compare. They aren't horrible and I don't regret the purchases. I think my biggest problem is the narrators incorrect inflection and speed throughout the books.

Great Book!

I'm completely hooked on this series after this book! The Darkest Night was great and this was a great follow up - I love how Showalter intertwines one book to the next. My only semi-negative comment would be that as much as I like Max Bellmore's voice for each of these books, I wish Anya's voice wasn't quite so whiny. Then again, that does fit with some of her personality so it's not anything I felt took away from the book.

I was apprehensive to buy this book in the beginning but I'm so glad that I did. This has turned into one of my favorite series and authors. Showalter does an amazing job building the fictional world but never losing sight of the romance building for both the main characters and future books. Highly recommend this book/series!!!

Good book

I liked both this book and the narrator. I agree that it does have a complex demon realm to get used to but I still think it's worth the credit. It also had enough romance to keep my interest.
