Historia
With its brilliant and brutal portrayal of the Corleone family, The Godfather burned its way into our national consciousness. This unforgettable saga of crime and corruption, passion and loyalty continues to stand the test of time, as the definitive novel of the Mafia underworld. A #1 New York Times bestseller in 1969, Mario Puzo's epic was turned into the incomparable film of the same name, directed by Francis Ford Coppola, which won the Academy Award for Best Picture. It is the original classic that has been often imitated, but never matched.

Maybe it takes a few times to get it
Revisado: 04-26-21
This is my second listen and I I feel I enjoyed much more than the first time as I was missing much of the meaning. This time I had to revisit a few passages but I really started to understand some of what Lewis was trying to get across about human nature. I will need to read this book one more time.
This book reminded me a lot of the Princess of Mars, which I really enjoyed.
The book loses me with the unique names of the characters and I mix up who is who.

Historia
From the best-selling author of Kafka on the Shore comes this rich and revelatory memoir about writing and running and the integral impact both have made on his life. Equal parts training log, travelogue, and reminiscence, this revealing memoir covers Murakami's four-month preparation for the 2005 New York City Marathon. Settings range from Tokyo, where he once shared the course with an Olympian, to the Charles River in Boston, among young women who outpace him.

Revisado: 07-19-20
I wasn't much of a fan of this at all. It inspired me a little bit and the narrator was great so I didn't feel like it was a waste of my time. There are a few interesting nuggets here and there but more like random thoughts compiled together.

Historia
Two men, each handsome and unusually adept at his chosen work, embodied an element of the great dynamic that characterized America’s rush toward the twentieth century. The architect was Daniel Hudson Burnham, the fair’s brilliant director of works and the builder of many of the country’s most important structures, including the Flatiron Building in New York and Union Station in Washington, D.C. The murderer was Henry H. Holmes, a young doctor who, in a malign parody of the White City, built his “World’s Fair Hotel” just west of the fairgrounds.

Historia
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s account of the first successful large-scale application of nonviolent resistance in America is comprehensive, revelatory, and intimate. King described his book as "the chronicle of 50,000 Negroes who took to heart the principles of nonviolence, who learned to fight for their rights with the weapon of love, and who, in the process, acquired a new estimate of their own human worth."

We can learn a lot from Dr. King
Revisado: 02-05-19
I haven't really given this specific event a lot of thought and never understood the importance fully until I heard the story from Dr. King's perspective. I recall that we studied this part of history in High School as a large Civil Rights movement and didnt get into specific details of specific events. Also I feel a lot of what Dr. King had advocated for has been lost in the various activist movements. the performance was great but the talking speed is way too slow I sped up to 1.6X.

Historia
On November 15, 1959, in the small town of Holcomb, Kansas, four members of the Clutter family were savagely murdered by blasts from a shotgun held a few inches from their faces. There was no apparent motive for the crime, and there were almost no clues.

This a great book and the narration was top notch
Revisado: 01-11-19
This book was really good and has been added to my favorite books of all time lost. I think the narration also added to the enjoyment of the book because Scott Brick does great voices to help make characters really come alive. If I had to criticize I would just say that the facts that come out through the narrator seem to repeat later in the book in the legal explanations. The subject matter is dark but I feel like the story is so much more than that. Reminds me of Steinbeck's "Of Mice and Men".
I did begin to feel sorry for the characters about how life did them wrong and made them into what they became. Then my mind comes back to reality about what they chose to do and of the victims.

Historia
Ulysses S. Grant's life has typically been misunderstood. All too often he is caricatured as a chronic loser and an inept businessman or as the triumphant but brutal Union general of the Civil War. But these stereotypes don't come close to capturing him, as Chernow reveals in his masterful biography, the first to provide a complete understanding of the general and president whose fortunes rose and fell with dizzying speed and frequency.

I get it already Grant was naive and a drunk
Revisado: 12-31-18
This was one a great book, but the author drove me crazy by mentioning every chance he had that Grant got drunk. I bet if you searched the word drink or drunk it would come up with 100 hits. other than that I enjoyed this book so much and learned a ton about Grant and learned how underrated his legacy was in my education. Grant is one of my favorite presidents now and I intend to read his memoirs to fill in some gaps in my understanding

Herman Wouk's sweeping epic of World War II stands as the crowning achievement of one of America's most celebrated storytellers. Like no other books about the war, Wouk's spellbinding narrative captures the tide of global events - and all the drama, romance, heroism, and tragedy of World War II - as it immerses us in the lives of a single American family drawn into the very center of the war's maelstrom.

Why we think it’s a great listen: A performance so poignant, we gave Bronson Pinchot (yes, Balki from Perfect Strangers) our inaugural Narrator of the Year award.... In the monsoon season of 1968-69 at a fire support base called Matterhorn, located in the remote mountains of Vietnam, a young and ambitious Marine lieutenant wants to command a company to further his civilian political ambitions. But two people stand in his way.

Better than the movie Platoon. Semper Fi!
Revisado: 03-22-16
This was one of the best narrated books I have listened to. The narrator was able to give life to each character and make the story so real. I felt I was in the bush with these Marines. I found myself laughing and cussing characters as they dealt with circumstances that seemed to get worse and worse. Be warned it's a story about grunts so the language is PG13 and some racial tensions that are prominent. The story was well written, but not sure if I would have lived the story like I did without the great narration. Just buy this, you won't regret it.

Revisado: 02-13-16
Loved this book, Dungy is a great guy who shares many of his thoughts on how to become a real man. If more men approached manhood like this our children would have greater potential to become better adults resulting in a better healthier society. I walk a way a better person, better husband, better father, and better mentor at my work.
