Only 10 percent of the world’s millionaires are women, making it difficult for women to wield the economic power that will create lasting equality. Whatever is stopping you from having seven figures in the bank - whether it’s shaky confidence, knowledge gaps when it comes to wealth-building tactics, imposter syndrome, a janky mindset about money (it’s okay, we’ve all been there!), or simply not knowing where to begin - this book shows you how to clear every obstacle in your way, show up, and glow up.

Historia

Historia
Beginning with a brief overview of the various goals and phases of feminism from the early 19th century onward, writer and feminist theorist Jennifer Baumgardner takes you on a tour of a tumultuous decade full of complex issues and contradictions through the lens of the feminist movement and the ways it shaped - and was shaped by - the closing years of the 20th century. From abortion rights to ‘zines, Feminism in the 1990s explores the ways third-wave feminism reacted to popular culture while simultaneously being co-opted by it.

Worthy addition to a feminist bookshelf
Revisado: 05-31-24
I enjoyed this book very much, in as far as you can enjoy hearing about the oppression of any group of people. As usual when i read about feminism I am upset, but hearing about the struggles and fights of our sisters from previous generations is always eye opening and relevant. I particularly enjoyed the chapter about the rriot girls. I was a child in the 90s so a lot of the topics covered helped me put stuff i vaguely remembered in context. Highly recommend listening to this. The author narrates her book very well too, which is always a treat

Grating
Revisado: 05-31-24
The summary sounded great, but I couldn't make it more than halfway through because of the horrible voice acting by the mother who is unfortunately one of the main characters. Her shrill screeching way of talking was absolute agony to my ears. I very rarely DNF audiobooks, especially such short ones, but that's how horrible this was to listen to

Legendary "space statesman" Buzz Aldrin speaks out as a vital advocate for the continuing quest to push the boundaries of the universe as we know it. As a pioneering astronaut who set foot on the moon during mankind’s first landing with Apollo 11 - and an aerospace engineer who designed an orbital rendezvous technique critical to future planetary landings - Aldrin has a vision, and in Mission to Mars he plots out the path he proposes, one that will take humans to Mars by 2035.

This is not nearly as outdated as some reviews would make believe. There is plenty about SpaceX, Virgin Galactic, Spaceport America etc. The chapters about sending astronauts to asteroids, the Moon and Mars were the most interesting to me. How interesting to hear from Dr Rendezvous himself about Apollo 11 too! A real treat

It is a different method than Marie Kondo, but makes sense and gives great pointers as to how to decide about the maybe items, sentimental things, etc. Really good little course, thank you Sophie & the great courses!

Historia
Whatever the form, whatever the treat - sugar drives us wild like nothing else. It’s lingered on our tongues for millennia and found its way into almost every household in the world. Alas, the history of sugar is far from sweet. Long before it was linked to America’s obesity epidemic, sugar was fueling the dark forces of exploitation, colonization, conquest, and slavery. More than just candy and cake, sugar has drastically altered the diets, cultures, and economies of the modern world. How can we love sugar while having a healthy relationship with its bittersweet history?

Not so sweet after all
Revisado: 04-14-24
Very interesting, but as others noted the first 7 lectures are dedicated solely to slavery in the sugar plantations. Only the last 3 lectures cover how sugar influenced society in the form of status symbol desserts, rituals, and health issues. Considering the title i expected more of the latter, but overall this was still a good listen, as usual with the Great Courses.
My only caveat is that she somehow makes the point that slavery before the plantations was not as bad... i think slaves would have begged to differ. Still worth your time to listen though!

Historia
The 10 enlightening (and often humorous) lectures of Medieval Myths and Mysteries will show you how far from the “dark” times of legend these centuries were. Uncover the facts about the Knights Templar. Reveal the truth behind the tales of legendary creatures like the Questing Beast and the unicorn. Trace the events of the Black Death and the ways it altered the world in its wake, and much more. With Professor Armstrong, you will dig deep into the ways that later generations reshaped the narrative of the medieval years and perpetuated the myths.
