Historia
In Argus, North Dakota, a collection of people revolve around a fraught wedding. Gary Geist, a terrified young man set to inherit two farms, is desperate to marry Kismet Poe, an impulsive, lapsed Goth who can't read her future but seems to resolve his. Hugo, a gentle red-haired, home-schooled giant, is also in love with Kismet. He’s determined to steal her and is eager to be a home wrecker. Kismet's mother, Crystal, hauls sugar beets for Gary's family, and on her nightly runs, tunes into the darkness of late-night radio, sees visions of guardian angels.

Wordy and a bit long...
Revisado: 10-25-24
originally the book was broken into six parts printed in a newspaper (?) think that would have been so much better ... I had a great deal of difficulty keeping up with a different character even after spending over 31 hours... if you like this style book you might enjoy it... it's not a Jane Astin

Historia
Spanning the years 1900 to 1977, The Covenant of Water is set in Kerala, on South India’s Malabar Coast, and follows three generations of a family that suffers a peculiar affliction: in every generation, at least one person dies by drowning—and in Kerala, water is everywhere. At the turn of the century, a twelve-year-old girl from Kerala’s long-existing Christian community, grieving the death of her father, is sent by boat to her wedding, where she will meet her forty-year-old husband for the first time.

A wonderful story / to long / worth it
Revisado: 06-24-24
The length was my biggest problems and often would become quite boring.... it would have worked better to divide it into three books.... I would have found it an easier read and probably more enjoyable... The reason I would recommend the book is the wonderful ending it made it worth the entire book...

Beginning Problematic / End make it worth while.
Revisado: 06-13-24
The beginning was confusing.... because the story jumps between different times and locations. It took awhile for the story comes together.... once that happened the book made sense....
I almost gave up listening to this book... ⁴I read a few of the reviews... I found that I was not the only one who struggled at the beginning of the book and I was encouraged to continue...
I'm grateful I finished the book and recommend this wonderful story..

Historia
Kentucky, 1850. An enslaved groom named Jarret and a bay foal forge a bond of understanding that will carry the horse to record-setting victories across the South. When the nation erupts in civil war, an itinerant young artist who has made his name on paintings of the racehorse takes up arms for the Union. On a perilous night, he reunites with the stallion and his groom, very far from the glamor of any racetrack.

Wonderful * Entertaining * Awkward Ending
Revisado: 04-30-24
"Horse" worked on so many levels... having different voices kept stories straight....
All the story lines told the journey of a horse, paintings and those who loved them both...
《Spoiler Alert》
The resolution of Theo's story was a poor attempt to ride the coattails of "Black Lives Matter". For this reason I consider not submitting this review...
But, because of the incredible inwoven stories I must recommend this book...

Interesting... but problematic
Revisado: 03-21-24
I found it interesting... the overtaking of Poland was horrible and what happened to the two families in the sewers was so wrong and their courage and their fight to stay alive was impressive.... also Ella showed bravery her and honest compassio...
my biggest concern was how hyperbolic the two main women were–every time a challenge came they just went off and wouldn't listen to anyone their acting out felt they're immaturity took away from the courage they were showing... I also had problems with the ending of the book and the epilogue (spoiler alert sort of) really like to have had more of an explanation of what happened... overall I'm not sure I'd recommend this book...

heart wrenching and beautifully written recommend
Revisado: 03-05-24
Beautifully written, the alternating story lines worked for me ... the friendship between the sister and sister-in-law showed the cost of war... each of the ladies lives were explored through difficult situations. all though they were fictitious characters they did come alive and I found myself unable to stop listening to this audiobook again I recommend

I wouldn't recommend this book unless you really like fantastic alternative facts with the world turning upside down...
Maybe it would have been different if I had read the book or at least had a copy of the book while I listened
qAt the end of the book, the one thing I could say is "my brain hurt"
