Fantastic combination of Story and Narrator

I enjoyed the first collaboration between Mr. Shames and Mr. Matzan with Key West Luck, but the pair fully hit their stride with Tropical Swap. The book is filled with Mr. Shames trademarks, which include humor, mayhem, mobsters and memorable characters. Highlight characters for me include an oddly matched but highly entertaining married couple, a cranky neighbor with some odd conversational habits and the always fun Bert the Shirt. The narration for Tropical Swap perfectly matched the tone of the book. I look forward to hearing more of the Key West series from Mr. Matzan.

I love this Key West series from Laurence Shames

What did you love best about Key West Luck?

The author has a knack for creating characters that stick with you long after you've finished reading or listening to his books and the characters in this book lived up to his usual standards.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Phoebe and Nicky are both beautifully crafted young people who are dealing with life as well as they know how. They are both flawed in their own unique ways. It's tough to steal the spotlight away from Bert the Shirt in one of Mr. Shames books, but Phoebe and Nicky managed to do it for me.

Any additional comments?

Highly recommended for authors of funny, light-hearted, and sun-drenched mysteries.

Fantastic mixture of story and narrator

Would you consider the audio edition of The Reed Ferguson Mystery Series, Box Set to be better than the print version?

That print version of the books are entertaining and fun to read but the audio version brought them to life in ways I didn't get while reading alone. This is a great series for whisper sync.

What about Johnny Peppers’s performance did you like?

The narrator's performance was perfect for the series protagonist and did a wonderful job of creating a movie for the mind.

Anxious to hear more from this combination of author and narrator.

Short, but Enjoyable!

Would you listen to Circle again? Why?

Yes, probably as soon as I get back in the car. CIRCLE is a beautifully written, thought-provoking short story.

What did you like best about this story?

The story unfolded carefully, allowing the listener to consider several possibilities before the surprising (at least to this listener) ending.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, the story is short and easily consumed in a single sitting. In fact, trying to listen in more than one sitting would lessen the impact of the ending.

CIRCLE is well written and well produced.

Beatrix Rose - The Hunt Continues

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Blood Moon Rising is a thightly written thriller with the kind of flawed protagonist that makes for great suspense.

What other book might you compare Blood Moon Rising to and why?

This is the second book in the Beatrix Rose Trilogy. I enjoyed the first book in the series and a lot, but for me, this one is even better.

Have you listened to any of Mark Deakins’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Mark Deakin's is excellent with this series.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Absolutely - I listen when exercising and this book kept me exercising far longer than I normally do, because I didn't want to stop listening.

Fun story and a fabulous performance

What made the experience of listening to In Cold Blood the most enjoyable?

The narrator's performance was top notch, sporting multiple accents and several easily identifiable voices. Both Somalian and British accents were spot on.

What did you like best about this story?

The story was well conceived and nicely paced. I found myself wanting to move to the next book in the series as soon as I finished listening to IN COLD BLOOD.

Which character – as performed by Mark Deakins – was your favorite?

I was initially surprised to find a male narrator for a book with a female protagonist, but like all good narrator it was no problem for someone with his talents. Mark Deakin's portrayal of the protagonist, Beatrix Rose, was extremely good.

Any additional comments?

Beautifully done. I hope the author and this narrator will collaborate on the others in this series.

A Wildly Enjoyable Story and Great Performance

What did you like best about this story?

Tightly written, fast paced story with an immencely satisfying ending.

Which character – as performed by Hillary Huber – was your favorite?

THE VESSEL is a single point of view character, and Hillary Huber's performance of Vanessa Michael Munroe was spot on.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I listen while driving and constantly found myself sitting in the car, unwilling to leave to leave the story, when I arrived at my destination. I wish I could have listened to the entire thing in one sitting.

Hillary Huber's portrayal of Vanessa Michael Munore, in this book, and every book in the series, is richly nuanced and extremely well done.
