Historia
If the Bible isn’t a science book or an instruction manual, then what is it? What do people mean when they say the Bible is inspired? When Rachel Held Evans found herself asking these questions, she began a quest to better understand what the Bible is and how it is meant to be read. What she discovered changed her—and it will change you too.
Drawing on the best in recent scholarship and using her well-honed literary expertise, Evans examines some of our favorite Bible stories and possible interpretations, retelling them through memoir, original poetry, short stories, soliloquies, and even a short screenplay. Undaunted by the Bible’s most difficult passages, Evans wrestles through the process of doubting, imagining, and debating Scripture’s mysteries. The Bible, she discovers, is not a static work but is a living, breathing, captivating, and confounding book that is able to equip us to join God’s loving and redemptive work in the world.

Keep ASKING Questions Rachel
Revisado: 07-25-18
I don't have the words to express my deep compassionate love for this author, her work, her journey, her bravery and her honesty. She grabs my heart every time I pick up any of her books.I find myself rooting and sheering her on. I love the care and deep consideration she has for life, the text, and how we live out our lives. KEEP ASKING QUESTIONS. KEEP LOVING. This book is for more than the scope she's written it for - it is for anyone and everyone currious about the Inspired. The Bible, ladies and gentleman, unpacked in a new and lofe breathing way. and Rachel Held Evens is a born reader, her voice gives presence and nuiance to her own words that might otherwise have been lost. Admittedly, I have a personal preference for authors reading their works aloud.

Historia
After finding Jesus at a suburban megachurch, young Jamie Wright trades in the easy life on the cul-de-sac for the green fields of Costa Rica. There, along with her husband, kids, and the family cat, she intends to serve God and make converts. But she soon loses faith and falls into a funk of cynicism and despair. Fortunately, Knives the cat is there, looking on with just enough disinterest to make her laugh...and dare her to try another way. That other way turns out to be telling the truth. She launches a renegade blog, Jamie the Very Worst Missionary, which wins a large following.

wrecked my soul, washed ashore, and gave me water
Revisado: 06-08-18
This book wrecked my soul, washed me ashore, and gave me a cup of fresh water. Jamie Wright's strong independent voice grabbed me by the forearm and drove down the street with just enough time for me to scramblr into the passenger seat. What I mean by this is that her words wotked on my heart in unexpected ways. i found myself belly laughing and ugly crying in one sitting. I could not put this book down and I look forward to reading it again. I love her creativity, her language, fierce knowledge of who she is and what she is about. Her story touches on my life is so many ways, from being Jew-ish, to teen mom, to running after Jesus with all you've got. I'm so grateful to have her voice ringing in my ears before I embark on my own wild journey, not as a missionary but something similar. Hopefully I can grow my bullshit monitor to her levels. She ranks amongst my author heros and favorites: Brene Brown and Cheryl Strayed.

Historia
Whether listeners are devout believers or distant seekers, The Idolatry of God shows that we must lay down our certainties and honestly admit our doubts to identify with Jesus. Rollins purposely upsets fundamentalist certainty in order to open listeners up to a more loving, active manifestation of Christ’s love. In contrast to the usual understanding of the "Good News" as a message offering satisfaction and certainty, Rollins argues for a radical and shattering alternative. He explores how the Good News actually involves embracing the idea that we can’t be whole, that life is difficult, and that we are in the dark.

Dip your toe into the unraveling...
Revisado: 04-14-18
This book brings together the best of Pete Rollins material from his podcasts and talks in a robust form. Highly recommend it. The content and depth of study in this book break open concepts and ideas I have tasted, recognized, yet knew not how to pursue for a fuller understanding. He reminds us that the struggles of life bring satisfaction, that the mysteries of G-d bring beauty, richness and truth beyond any objectification of G-d. He calls out the underbelly of beliefs we might not recognize we have until viewed through another. I really enjoyed having Pete read the book, and slow down his ideas that sometimes fly by in interviews or talks. His voice added to his voice haha. My mind is still melting - or raveling- but the love for this work is overflowing.
