Historia
Lauren Fleshman has grown up in the world of running. One of the most decorated collegiate athletes of all time and a national champion as a pro, she was a major face of women’s running for Nike before leaving to shake up the industry with feminist running brand Oiselle and now coaches elite young female runners. Every step of the way, she has seen the way that our sports systems—originally designed by men, for men and boys—fail young women and girls as much as empower them. Written with heart and verve, Good for a Girl is a joyful love letter to the running life.

This should be required reading for high schoolers

Lauren’s story really resonated with me and all my friends who played college sports. I wonder if I had had this book back then if things could have been different in my own story.
As a parent now with growing athletes, I can help change the pressures and climate of the sports they participate in. This book articulates the problem and the falsehoods that perpetuate them so well. It gives us the tools to create something different that is evidence-based through the authors own journey and growth. Maybe next time I am sitting in the stands and I hear someone say a star runner will fade once puberty hits, I will reply with “They can come back stronger once they adapt to their new body. A plateau or dip is normal at that stage of female development.”

Historia
World renowned psychologist and internationally bestselling author Edith Eger’s powerful New York Times bestselling book The Choice told the story of her survival in the concentration camps, her escape, healing, and journey to freedom. Eger’s second book, The Gift, expands on her message of healing and provides a hands-on guide that gently encourages listeners to change the thoughts and behaviors that may be keeping them imprisoned in the past.

Great summation of the tangible lessons learned
Revisado: 01-15-23
This book was a great summation of the tangible lessons the author gleaned from her experiences described in her other book “The Choice”. How does one survive a concentration camp? The author has had to pick survival every day of her life since her rescue and chose to make tools from incompressible suffering. Most of us will never experience such extreme trauma, but pain is relative and there’s so much to learn from this survival guide that the author has put together for all of our benefit. I highly recommend this book, but it is better to read.”The Choice” first to understand the full context. There is overlap between the two books, but this book focuses on tangible tilt skills to apply to emotional struggles.

Vincent is a bartender at the Hotel Caiette, a five-star lodging on the northernmost tip of Vancouver Island. On the night she meets Jonathan Alkaitis, a hooded figure scrawls a message on the lobby's glass wall: Why don’t you swallow broken glass. High above Manhattan, a greater crime is committed: Alkaitis's billion-dollar business is really nothing more than a game of smoke and mirrors.

Best narrator!
Revisado: 08-11-22
There are many in-depth reviews of this book, so I wanted to leave a review of the narrator. This narrator was amazing. I would listen to any book she narrates. I think I enjoyed the book even more because of what she added to the beautifully written words. What a talent!

Historia
Justine had always been told that her mother came from royal blood. The proof could be found in her mother’s elegance, in the upper-crust London accent she had never shed - and in a cryptic letter hinting at her claim to a country estate. But beneath the polished veneer lay a fearsome, unpredictable temper that drove Justine from home the moment she was old enough to escape. Years later, when her mother sent her an envelope filled with secrets from a past that had never been spoken about, Justine buried it in the back of an old filing cabinet.

Loved it! Book club material 100%
Revisado: 04-08-22
The writing was compelling and engaging and the narrator is one of my favorites on Audible. I knew nothing of the foundlings prior to listening and learned so much from this book. It is a journey to empathy and healing that will help you think differently about many of the difficult people in your life and how they got that way. I highly recommend this book, especially if you have a challenging relationship with a parent. There is much to learn from the author’s journey.
