Historia
On the world of Verghast, a grinding war between two hive cities - one loyal to the Imperium, the other fallen to the worship of the Dark Gods - is bolstered by the forces of the Astra Militarum, spearheaded by the Colonel-Commissar Gaunt and the Tanith First and Only. But bitter rivalries and treachery threaten to derail the defence of Vervunhive, and it falls to Gaunt to take command of the Imperial forces and forge victory from an almost certain defeat.

my favorite so far
Revisado: 05-01-25
Best GG book so far. Significantly better than Ghostmaker, just a bit better than First and Only. Will not be surprised if it remains my favourite of the whole series.

Mediocre Clipshow
Revisado: 04-25-25
A collection of short stories that range from terrible to ok, sown together with through terrible flashback sequences. I genuinely find it hard to believe this was written by the same author as First and Only.
Skip this one, maybe come back if you finiah the whole series and still hunger for now, but it's not worth the money imo.
Performance and production are still great however, and some of the stories are ok by themselves, but you will quickly get tired of hearing Gaunt and the Ghosts inteoduced for the twentieth time in the narrative.

Book has very similar vibes to Apocalypse Now or Full Metal Jacket. It has great characters and worldbuilding, but you are going to be shown the worst of humanity and the galaxy.

great performance, good story

I enjoyed the story, though it was not as good as Spear of the Emperor. Andrej is definitely my favorite character and I'm gonna pretend he gets a happily ever after rather than the fate of all storm troopers.

Historia
The scattered worlds of the Elara's Veil nebula were once protected by the oath of unity sworn by three mighty Chapters of the Adeptus Astartes. The Star Scorpions were undone by flaws in their genetic coding. The Celestial Lions were ravaged by the Inquisition for sins they did not commit. Now, after hundreds of years, only the Emperor's Spears still keep their vigil. They are barbarian watchmen against the Outer Dark, bloodied but unbroken in their long duty.

Cam on the recommendation of Mr.Bones 40k and can't express how glad I am. This book is not just good 40k fiction, but good fiction in general. I would gladly recommend it to people not into 40k.
Performance was superb. I'll be looking for more books by the author and readings by the actress.

The Deathwatch are the elite of the elite - small teams of Space Marines handpicked for special missions that require the utmost courage and cunning. Now recovered from the injuries sustained on his previous mission, Codicier Karras must lead Talon Squad in the hunt for a missing inquisitor. Their only clue is the name of an Imperial planet that has been taken over by the T’au. Is the missing inquisitor alive or dead? Worse still, has she gone rogue, jeopardising one of the Inquisition’s most secret projects?

Not as good as the first
Revisado: 11-07-24
writing:
I found the writing to be a step down from the previous book. Particularly chapters often ended on cliffhangers that were either ignored/not resolved when the story returned to that character, or else they were resolved in an incredibly boring and drawn out manner. Boring and drawn out is a good summary of the writing in general.
voicing:
I foind the voicing incredibly hard to listen to, particularly for any long interval. This was mostly due to all of the characters voices being performed as various amgry whispers. It made it impoasible to believe actual conversation was happening and something about the whispered tone was very aggravating to listen to for me.
