Historia
Fleeing problems in her own marriage, child protection worker Dana Gibson leaves Sydney for a job in the Queensland town of Toowoomba. Her first house call is to nearby Crows Nest to assess the children of Sandra Kirby, which results in her getting both her new boss and a local detective offside. Dana soon learns that, in the country, city rules do not apply. When Sandra Kirby and her best friend are found shot dead, Dana is drawn into an investigation that will force her to strip away the friendly veneer of small-town life, while grappling with ghosts of her own.

Couldn’t put this small town murder mystery down
Revisado: 04-17-23
Local author Nikki Mottram tells such an engaging story from the perspective of social worker Dana. Dana flees her marriage after the death of her baby to return to social work in country Queensland. Her passion to help and protect those at risk sees her become emotionally attached to the children and adolescents she works with. Following the death of two young women, Dana refuses to believe the conclusion of “murder/suicide” and goes above and beyond to find out what really happened to cause their death. The author develops believable characters and storyline’s of their hidden lives demonstrating the intricate relationships of those who live in small country towns. The author magnificently pieces together the hidden character connections, and in the process expertly shows the impact on the lives of all those who are affected by family discord and violence. I especially enjoyed the way Nikki Mottram made the story come alive with connections to my local area in a time period that was so familiar to me.
The audiobook was told by one of my favourite readers Caroline Lee who really brought the characters to life. I can’t wait to read more from this talented young author who has set the bar so high in this murder mystery.

Historia
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother's coffin as the world watched in sorrow - and horror. As Diana, Princess of Wales, was laid to rest, billions wondered what the princes must be thinking and feeling - and how their lives would play out from that point on. For Harry, this is that story at last.

Wonderful insight of Harry’s life.
Revisado: 01-15-23
When I read Harry would narrate his own audiobook I knew this was for me. It is so good to get Harry’s perspective about the unusual family life he was brought up in and hear about it directly from him. I have always known the British press is in a league of its own and marches to its own drum. It is dreadful to hear the truth behind the headlines and the hounding he has had to endure his whole life. This book has changed my perspective of how and why Harry has made choices to step away from royal life. I would like to see his family acknowledge those choices and be aware of their part in those choices. I hope he can forge and independent career that will give him peace and happiness.

Really enjoyed the family relationships in this book. The complexities, the laughter, and resilience of each character made this real Australian novel come to life. So pleased I found this author again after a few years.

I couldn't put this book down. Intriguing story. It had me guessing until a few chapters from the end however I wasn't quite expecting the final chapter. The title of the first book before republishing really helped me piece the puzzle together. I would have preferred the story without the epilogue. Very easy to listen to narration by Camilla Rockley.

Insightful look at things that weigh people down
Revisado: 11-24-18
I was so excited to see Liane Moriarty's new book was available on Audible and Caroline Lee was narrating. I love the work of both these ladies and find Caroline Lee so easy to listen to. Liane's story delves into the personalities of more than the 9 core people. It gives insight into how the troubles of every day life play so hard on people's psyche that they are willing to accept anything to make a change to the way they are living. I found Liane addressed the issue of suicide so well by examining the far reaching effects it has on the related characters in this story. The idea of being transformed was made even more interesting by Liane incorporating some rather interesting techniques into the story.
I could not stop listening to this book it was so good. I laughed and at times cried with the highly believable characters and a really funny story line. I rate this as one of Liane's best! Highly recommended.

Enjoyable read
Revisado: 04-20-18
What made the experience of listening to Ember Island the most enjoyable?
I was keen to read more of this author's books as I really love Australian historical novels, and previous books have been really entertaining. The book's setting is close to home, so it was easy to visualise the scenery on Ember Island.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Ember Island?
Coming to terms with the place of women in that time frame was grounding. How our lives have changed. Yes it really is hard to believe the main character Tilly was so submissive, however that was life. It really was a man's world, and woman really shouldn't have an opinion and display of temper and hostility was not tolerated. How things have changed!
Have you listened to any of Jennifer Vuletic’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have to be honest, I really missed the storytelling of Caroline Lee. It took me the whole book to get used to Jennifer Vuletic's narration, and am coming to terms that to listen to more of Kimberley Freeman's audiobooks will mean enduring more of Vuletic's narration. I am finding today I am now looking for narration's by Caroline Lee, as I just want to hear her beautiful voice and interpretation of the author's word. The narrator can make or break a great book. I do hope the author uses Caroline Lee again in any future novels as Vuletic's performance really detracts from this book and Caroline Lee is a star.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Deceit, betrayal, and desperation. A women's life in the Victorian era.
Any additional comments?
A great story by the author yet again.

Historia
From the London pop scene, to the opera stages of Europe; from a tiny Greek island, to a stifling manor house full of secrets and deceptions; from the sun-drenched Queensland coast, to the silent outback; Angela and Ellie are two women both looking for something. One in search of her identity and her memory; the other in search of the love that she had and lost; theirs is a duet whose last note will not be sung until the heart-stopping climax, when a shadow from the past returns to claim them both.

Another one to add to my favourites!
Revisado: 04-14-18
This is the third book I have listened to by this author and I found the storyline so enjoyable I can’t wait to listen to another. I love Caroline Lee’s narration. She would have to be the easiest persons to listen to and makes the story live. I have been a huge fan of Kate Moreton and found this author came through on my Audible feed. So pleased as her books are amazing. Highly recommended.
