This is a refreshing listen. Both Gaiman and Lenny Henry did outstanding work. I was disappointed when it ended.

I have gotten comfortable with Kovac and Liska. However, they were just names mentioned in this mystery.

Dana Nolan's best friend had disappeared several years earlier. Dana had a promising career cut short by an abduction which she survived, but after being tortured and then severely brain injured. Solving the cold mysterious disappearance is the thread that keeps her fighting her way through recovery. She keeps at it alone; not knowing who to trust, being discouraged by nearly everyone, and navigating around several likely perpetrators.

A good listen, overall. The story is unusual and the narration great.

Storywise, the publisher's summary is a good overview. I don't want to write spoilers.

This book didn't really grab me as out-of-the-ordinary when I was listening. However it is a good story and I did listen to the end.

That being said, I have found myself remembering things about it months after it was finished. I listen to many books. Sometimes I have to look back at the publisher's summary to remember what a book was about. Sometimes I have to search my library to find out if I have read a certain title. The books that I am still thinking about over time are the ones that seem to have something special; this is one of them.

I am happy to see that the second book in the series is available and am looking forward to listening to it.

Lee Child occasionally writes about incidents and memories from Jack Reacher's past. These fill in some of the earlier life of our anonymous wanderer.

This is a (too) short story that involves both Reacher brothers. I mention short because it's almost impossible to say much without spoiling the ending. However, Jack is still a respected Army investigator and does whatever it takes to solve a murder.

Dick Hill's narration is always spot on.

Why would anyone break into the Tara Foundation and steal a dog when they could adopt during regular daytime hours?

How is this tied into several murders? Why is an innocent man being framed?

All of this has to be sorted out by Andy Carpenter and his investigators. Andy reluctantly goes to court to defend the man.

When everything is sorted, the innocent walks free and the stolen dog is retuned to a loving home.

Grover Gardner has the sarcastic, wise-cracking Andy Carpenter perfected. As always, he gives a wonderful narration.

I am always delighted with this series. Brett Battles has new plots when I think there can't be any more. I hope that the books keep coming!

This book starts with cleaners Quinn and Nate arriving at a crime scene. However, the assassin is still present and she has uncovered a situation that none of them feel they can morally ignore. This is the perfect set up for many entanglements while they are all being chased and their contractor/boss has been kidnapped.

Also new, Orlando and entourage are traveling around in a motor home, she is pregnant, and the baby, of course, comes at an awkward time and place.

Scott Brick does his usual professional narration.

This is a cute, seasonal, short story about our friends and their adventures. As always, a fun listen.
Jim Frangione continues to be the ideal narrator for this series.

A friendship strained by need to survive

This definitely isn't Department Q, or an action packed story. If anything, it is more psychological. It's really difficult not to write any spoilers for this one. I hope that I have shown the correct amount of restraint and still given some insight into this powerful novel.

The publisher's summary is sufficient to get you into the story; what it doesn't do is tell how the story begins like many WWII tales. Then the need to survive and the struggles of two friends, who start out very united, twists so that they end up in very different circumstances.

Jussi Adler-Olsen slowly unfolds their personal strategies to survive and how each chose a different path. Years later they are in very different places . This is physically, psychologically, and in their personal lives. Their eventual meeting still tugs at my heart and mind.

As always, Graeme Malcolm does an excellent narration.

I am getting very comfortable with Morck and his entourage.

In this episode, as usual, Morck doesn't want any work, but Rose has picked up a thread, Assad shows interest, and the team gets involved in spite of their leader. What initially seems like a superficial investigation of a closed-case accident sends them interviewing and searching far from home. As usual the clues all add up to something, but the twists keep coming up until the end.

I find that these episodes seem to unfold slowly, then the pieces fall into place, and pow the cold case is solved. Definitely not for the adrenaline junkies, but worth the time for those that like to follow the clues.

Graeme Malcolm is becoming one of my favorite narrators. He just "fits" the Department Q novels.

I know that I repeat this often: I try not to write spoilers. The publisher's summary will give yiou what you need to know to dive into this one.

The writing is wonderful, the narrator highly skilled and appropriate, and the story grabbed me and held to the end. I was so absorbed that I listened to the next two (all three in sequence) immediately.

Cormoran strike and his entourage are introduced and continue to develop throughout the series. The cases have depth and always seem make the police look incompetent which puts Cormoran on their bad side.

Finally, if you don't recognize this author, do some sleuthing of your own and you will realize that this series will probably continue its brilliance!
