Historia
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Thank you, Louise Penny, for another wonderful mystery set in Three Pines with Inspector Gamache and all our favorite characters. You have given us (your fans) such a gift, and this latest book is no exception. I hope you never tire of basing your mysteries in this town or with these characters!!!

Historia
When the Air National Guard receives an emergency call for help from a remote Arctic research station in Greenland, Senior Master Sergeant Dan Cameron is chosen to lead the rescue mission. In an attempt to combat climate change, the scientists have genetically engineered an aquatic biofilm capable of generating oxygen and lowering the temperature of the underlying seawater, producing environmental conditions that awaken an organism that has lain dormant beneath the ocean floor for millions of years.

I couldn't make it through chapter 5. Maybe it finally gets past all the "who knows, understands or cares" about the details of their project, but I have too many great books on my list to wade through the babble.

I have read all of Greig Beck's books, I believe, and have come to associate the Alex Hunter books in particular with his voice. I read a comment from another reader who said he thought Mr. Mangen was drunk or half asleep. He has a slight lisp which could just be badly fit dentures. But when I started this book, I thought oh, dear, he really has lost it.
Then I checked the SPEED of the narration on my phone. It had been turned slow for some reason! I adjusted it and, lo and behold, there was my Mr. Mangan, back to his normal self!!!
Just a tip for ANY narrator.
ENJOY! This is a good book!!

A startling crime with dozens of victims. Appearing out of nowhere to horrify the quiet resort town of Sanibel Island, Florida, dozens of identical, ordinary-looking shoes float in on the tide and are washed up on the tropical beach—each one with a crudely severed human foot inside.

I've read most of the books published by these authors both as a team and individuals. Their talent is consistent but not outstanding EXCEPT for the Pendergast series which is SUPERB!!! Get to know him with his first appearance in " Relic".
His series just gets better & better!

What happened to the ending??!!
Revisado: 07-10-22
Not as good as "Pride & Prejudice" by a long shot but still enjoyable up until the end. Ms. Austin tied up loose ends as if she was in a hurry to finish the book. All the anticipation was so bluntly resolved ... no drama, no satisfying story ending. it was like getting a present, all beautifuly gift wrapped to find it empty inside. Disappointing!
