Historia
Last Stop, Ground Floor is a horror-thriller novel about a young man who learns that spending eternity in the place of eternal punishment for the crimes he committed during his lifetime wasn't what he expected, nor what he could have imagined. It didn't surprise Nick that he ended up in hell for what he'd done, but he wasn't prepared to follow the rules.

not for me
Revisado: 08-09-24
preachy, condescending, pompous with a more of a feeling of being talked at than actual storytelling. the author's intention is clearly defined in the prologue. I am sure there are some that will connect with this one but it was definitely not for me as I fought through to the end.

enjoyable writing style
Revisado: 08-08-24
3.5 I enjoyed the writing more than the stories. My favorites were Tulip Garden (The Mother) which was clever psychological tale, and Sated, which was very very similar to a story from tales from the crypt in the early 90's

Meet Jigglyspot, a five-foot tall half human half warlock carnival clown who spends his free time moonlighting as a drug dealing pimp and lackey for demonic entities who prey on the weak and vulnerable, casting their dark shadow across humanity through manipulation, and fear. Jigglyspot was selected to serve as the event coordinator for 2019’s Summer Solstice Celebration at the prestigious Cannibal Café. A celebration that brings together both demon and human alike. But with less than two weeks before the celebration, Jigglyspot’s got so much to do and little time to do it.

Bit of violence, bit of comedy, bit of alien clown
Revisado: 06-06-24
2.5 This epic tale starts to ramp up about midway through but it was just too much for me. Too many characters, too many explanations, too many sub plot lines... I appreciate the overall story but a little more focus into one character's theme/actions would have made this one a better listen for me.

Historia
This wasn’t the plan. Judge Herman Calvert, 88, never thought he’d outlive his beloved wife, Marie. Yet now he finds himself alone, a grieving widower, desperate for escape from the home they built together, where every turn brings a painful reminder of his late wife. So the judge retreats to his lake cabin in rural Wisconsin, a place where an old man can find peace and solitude. A place where nature can take its course. But something new has moved in.

Historia
Five years ago, ordinary Americans fell under the grip of a strange new malady that caused them to sleepwalk across the country to a destination only they knew. They were followed on their quest by the shepherds: friends and family who gave up everything to protect them. Their secret destination: Ouray, a small town in Colorado that would become one of the last outposts of civilization. Because the sleepwalking epidemic was only the first in a chain of events that led to the end of the world—and the birth of a new one.

Historia
Sarah Churchwell examines one of the most enduringly popular stories of all time, Gone with the Wind, to help explain the divisions ripping the United States apart today. Separating fact from fiction, she shows how histories of mythmaking have informed America's racial and gender politics, the controversies over Confederate statues, the resurgence of white nationalism, the Black Lives Matter movement, the enduring power of the American Dream, and the violence of Trumpism.

understanding the myth
Revisado: 05-13-23
If we don't understand the myth, we will never understand what is happening in America today and we will never keep our democracy.
4.5 Gone with the Wind read like a satirical farce, I declare! I searched for a critique of the historical feelings, attitudes and actual perspective of Mitchell and her circle of the times and how it was seen in the following years to now. I found Churchill's critique and I was not disappointed. 4.5 stars because at times, understandably so, her spitting out of her own words became a little tiresome.
