Historia
Olivia McAfee knows what it feels like to start over. Her picture-perfect life—living in Boston, married to a brilliant cardiothoracic surgeon, raising their beautiful son, Asher—was upended when her husband revealed a darker side. She never imagined that she would end up back in her sleepy New Hampshire hometown, living in the house she grew up in and taking over her father’s beekeeping business. Lily Campanello is familiar with do-overs, too. When she and her mom relocate to Adams, New Hampshire, for her final year of high school, they both hope it will be a fresh start.

Honey, honey!
Revisado: 06-07-23
An unexpectedly treasure of a collaboration! This was my book clubs pick. So I picked it up and fell into an entire world I’d never even gave a thought to. I’m giving lots of thought now and hope I am a person who can appreciate our differences! And accept that I can and should be open to everyone’s story.

Enter: hotshot prosecutor Erika Lorman, she of the stellar record and unfailing touch with juries, a veritable legend in her own right.

Enjoyed the interplay of two main characters I suspect there might be more adventures to come. Well written. Look forward to next one (hopefully).

Some thoughts on writing style choice
Revisado: 09-16-22
Long awaited book but reader not up to date on internet lingo or reasons for same in a written story. Can understand difficulty of so many characters introductions if not brought together in sound bite fashion. Reader does not think younger people will be reading long books as their lives are in five word sentences and alphabet letters. Older readers won’t appreciate what are really good mysteries devalued by a cut and paste method. Can only hope future books by the wonderful writer of this series will not be written in this manner. First time ever I’ve been made to feel an old foggy if that’s the way that’s spelled!

Half-hidden by forest and overshadowed by threatening peaks, Le Sommet has always been a sinister place. Long plagued by troubling rumors, the former abandoned sanatorium has since been renovated into a five-star minimalist hotel. An imposing, isolated getaway spot high up in the Swiss Alps is the last place Elin Warner wants to be. But Elin's taken time off from her job as a detective, so when her estranged brother, Isaac, and his fiancée, Laure, invite her to celebrate their engagement at the hotel, Elin really has no reason not to accept.

Drawn out
Revisado: 03-27-21
Way too much repetition of thoughts from Ellen! Unsatisfactory ending. Reader review a result of a long drawn out piece of writing so not really fair to her. I’ll try to listen to more read by her but won’t bother with books by this author.

The newspaper refers to the body only as Victim 2117 - the 2117th refugee to die in the Mediterranean Sea. But to three people, the unnamed victim is so much more, and the death sets off a chain of events that throws Department Q, Copenhagen’s cold cases division led by Detective Carl Mørck, into a deeply dangerous - and deeply personal - case. A case that not only reveals dark secrets about the past, but has deadly implications for the future.

The worst thing about this book from my perspective is the last word! It means another long wait for the next dept Q novel. If you are reading this review without reading these books in order, you owe it to yourself to do just that!

First of the Harry Hole Series, Finally
Revisado: 11-05-12
If you could sum up The Bat in three words, what would they be?
Developing interesting character
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
The plot did not keep me on the edge of my seat but did provide a good basis for Jo Nesbo's Harry Hole series each book of which gets better and better.
Which scene was your favorite?
The storyline describing Aborigine culture is very interesting.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When Harry bonds with his Australian partner almost at once, I was intrigued by the way Nesbo did this so that I would believe it could happen so fast.
Any additional comments?
Look forward to more in this series.

Historia
On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge.

A great start but that's as far as it went.
Revisado: 09-10-12
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Would not recommend this book as I spent too long getting nowhere with it.
What was most disappointing about Gillian Flynn’s story?
The most disappointing thing was no resolution. Good start, no fizz at end.
Have you listened to any of Julia Whelan and Kirby Heyborne ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I do not think I have listened to either. The reader for the wife's impression on me has been tainted by the character in the book, not by the skills of the reader.
Did Gone Girl inspire you to do anything?
Yes, probably will not recommend this book or this author.
