Given how thick the book is from which Hermione reads in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, it is disappointing that this collection of tales is small and can be read in less than 2 hours. Also, Albus Dumbledore’s commentary on The Three Brothers seems in direct conflict with the events of the aforementioned book/movies.

Blood of Elves: Booktrack Edition adds an immersive musical soundtrack to your audiobook listening experience! The New York Times best-selling series that inspired the international hit video game: The Witcher. For over a century, humans, dwarves, gnomes, and elves have lived together in relative peace. But times have changed, the uneasy peace is over, and now the races are fighting once again. The only good elf, it seems, is a dead elf. Geralt of Rivia, the cunning assassin known as The Witcher, has been waiting for the birth of a prophesied child.

Performance is good but the plot is quite dragged out and boring.
Revisado: 12-25-23
I watch the show, The Witcher, and I own the game. It seems like, in an effort to beef up the plot from both “sources,” they made an originally highly supernatural plot overly political. I do not watch the show or play the game for political intrigue and am not at all impressed with this adaptation. I have tried to see it through to the end, but with 4 hours left, it seems this title does more to put me to sleep than to entertain me. I cannot endure it.

Historia
Woodward, the number-one international bestselling author of Fear: Trump in the White House, has uncovered the precise moment the president was warned that the Covid-19 epidemic would be the biggest national security threat to his presidency. In dramatic detail, Woodward takes readers into the Oval Office as Trump’s head pops up when he is told in January 2020 that the pandemic could reach the scale of the 1918 Spanish Flu that killed 675,000 Americans.

This is a necessary read for the upcoming election
Revisado: 09-28-20
This is a great companion read for John Bolton's "The Room Where It Happened" as far as getting critical, unbiased insight into the Trump presidency. It is important to know that even those who wanted to be in full support of the President found themselves shaken by his practices. It is clear that Woodward is a very seasoned journalist who focuses on facts over speculation, as he uses direct quotes very often. This latter point should make readers very concerned, given the portrait of Trump that emerges from these quotes. The narrator does a great job of delivering the text of the book in a calm voice that keeps your attention while emphasizing the seriousness of the material.

The chapters discussing relationships with narcissists were very eye-opening. I almost cried when I realized how much I have in common with some of the people in this book. It will definitely need to be read again.

Historia
Young Hiram Walker was born into bondage. When his mother was sold away, Hiram was robbed of all memory of her - but was gifted with a mysterious power. Years later, when Hiram almost drowns in a river, that same power saves his life. This brush with death births an urgency in Hiram and a daring scheme: to escape from the only home he’s ever known. So begins an unexpected journey that takes Hiram from the corrupt grandeur of Virginia’s proud plantations to desperate guerrilla cells in the wilderness, from the coffin of the South to dangerously idealistic movements in the North.

Joe Morton is an excellent narrator
Revisado: 10-27-19
The story is heavily layered and carefully deconstructed throughout the book. Slave narratives can be very depressing, but Ta-Nehisi shines just enough light on the multiple ways the tasked still found joy as not to have the book a constant assault on my heart. I think you really have to step into the minds of all the main characters to truly appreciate how perfectly complex a story this is. To that end, Joe gives each character his or her own voice and range of emotions, which makes it easier to see them as people vs abstract literary constructs just pushing a plot along. You have no clue how it will end which gives you no choice but to focus on the people and their various dilemmas. I wouldn't be surprised if this were Ta-Nehisi's intent: to make you focus on the lives and feelings of otherwise forgotten people and make you FEEL for them. I am sad, but it is a sweet sadness that comes from knowing I heard a great story and believing I have vicariously honored the souls lost to slavery by supporting this book.

"My name is 'J' and I'm awkward--and Black. Someone once told me those were the two worst things anyone could be. That someone was right. Where do I start?" Being an introvert in a world that glorifies cool isn't easy. But when Issa Rae, the creator of the Shorty Award-winning hit series The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl, is that introvert--whether she's navigating love, work, friendships, or rapping--it sure is entertaining.

I'm guessing this was written after the success of ABG but before Insecure. Unfortunately, I was looking for Insecure's energy. However, I do appreciate learning that she is more complex than I originally thought.

Historia
Make sure the kids aren’t around! Just because you’re a grown-up doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the art of the children’s bedtime story. Nick Offerman presents this collection of 12 short stories written in the style of a classic kids' tale, but with a decidedly dark and adult approach. What really happened after Snow White died, from the perspective of the one medically trained dwarf? A naive wizard professor reports back from the trenches of an underprivileged school of magic. And much more!

Revisado: 06-01-19
The scenarios are more ridiculous than cynical. I could not finish beyond the first 4 stories. Offerman's voice in between stories was all that got me through, but even that just wasn't enough.

Historia
Harry Potter has never even heard of Hogwarts when the letters start dropping on the doormat at number four, Privet Drive. Addressed in green ink on yellowish parchment with a purple seal, they are swiftly confiscated by his grisly aunt and uncle. Then, on Harry's eleventh birthday, a great beetle-eyed giant of a man called Rubeus Hagrid bursts in with some astonishing news: Harry Potter is a wizard, and he has a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. An incredible adventure is about to begin!
