Historia
When a spaceship landed in an open field in the quiet mill town of Sorrow Falls, Massachusetts, everyone realized humankind was not alone in the universe. With that realization everyone freaked out for a little while. Or almost everyone. The residents of Sorrow Falls took the news pretty well. This could have been due to a certain local quality of unflappability, or it could have been that in three years the ship did exactly nothing other than sit quietly in that field, and nobody understood the full extent of this nothing the ship was doing better than the people who lived right next door.

Decide what you are writing
Revisado: 03-08-17
It starts out slow but good. But somewhere after the half point it takes a turn for the worse. It changes genre and introduces zombies, and towards the end it tries to be big-idea-scifi.
Zombies are by far the most boring creatures ever and it just makes me mad that the writer introduced them. Its hackneyed to the extreme.
By the end of the book when it finally tries to be scifi all my intrest in the characters and plot where all but gone and i could not have cared less about how it would end. Some other reviewer compared it to the movie hot fuzz. Thats a good analogy, the book destroys itself by changing genre and just turning silly.
The narrator did a great job though.

Historia
Neil Gaiman has long been inspired by ancient mythology in creating the fantastical realms of his fiction. Now he turns his attention back to the source, presenting a bravura rendition of the great northern tales. In Norse Mythology, Gaiman fashions primeval stories into a novelistic arc that begins with the genesis of the legendary nine worlds; delves into the exploits of the deities, dwarves, and giants; and culminates in Ragnarok, the twilight of the gods and the rebirth of a new time and people.

Not my kind of book
Revisado: 01-27-16
I keept waiting for the book to start making sense, but for me it never did. It somehow got lost in it's own style.
I lisened to it in 2 chunks. First 25 hours. Then i got tired of it and went on to others. Later I broke my rule and went back to a book I didn't like. I guess that didn't help with my view of it.
There might be something good in there but in that case it's burried in way to much volume. I think it would have been a much better book if it was 1/3 the length.
The narrators were good though.

Historia
The folks in Mike Erikson's small New England town would say he's just your average, everyday guy. And that's exactly how Mike likes it. Sure, the life he's chosen isn't much of a challenge to someone with his unique gifts, but he's content with his quiet and peaceful existence. That is, until an old friend presents him with an irresistible mystery, one that Mike is uniquely qualified to solve.

Good start, bad ending
Revisado: 01-01-16
The book started out good. The main character's abilities is somewhat silly. But it's a premise for the book so i'll give them that. But the problem arrises when the book suddenly change genre in the middle, and at the same time going from interesting to me checking the timer so see how much more I had to listen through.
It was still an ok listen, but I would not recommend it to anyone. There are better books out there.

Historia
Margaret Atwood's classic novel, The Handmaid's Tale, is about the future. Now, in Oryx and Crake, the future has changed: it's much worse. The narrator of this riveting novel calls himself Snowman. When the story opens, he's sleeping in a tree, wearing an old bedsheet, mourning the loss of his beloved Oryx and his best friend Crake, and slowly starving to death.

John Chancer really brings the story to life
Revisado: 08-09-14
What made the experience of listening to Oryx and Crake the most enjoyable?
This book works well as a standalone -- better than the other two books -- but it does get even better as part of the MaddAdams trilogy.
John Chancer does an excellent job bringing Jimmy and the crakers to life. When i think about the book I keep hearing his saying "Ohhh Jimmy" as the crackers, and it brings a smile to my face every time.
This is a book in which the narrator ads another layer to the story.
Storywise it tells you a lot about Jimmy but less about the world. The two following books flesh out the world better.
Good book and I highly recommend it.
