Historia
VBI (Vermont Bureau of Investigation) head Joe Gunther and his team are called in to investigate a series of violent deaths that appear unrelated until telltale clues reveal a linkage between them and that all of the deaths are, in fact, murders. However, apart from a single drop of unexplained blood left at each crime scene, there are no obvious connections between the victims or the cases. In the search for the elusive truth, the VBI must plumb the depths of every suspect's past.

Loved all his books until this one. I just couldn’t get past the horrible narration. DNF. Starting the next one.

Depth if characters. Complex intertwined and loyal relationships.
Revisado: 07-04-24
Took time to tie in relationships between several integral characters. . In the end, it was well worth sticking it out.

Historia
Elizabeth Black is the headmistress of a girls' school in 1830s Victorian London. She is also a well-respected author of stories written both for and about the upper-class ladies of Victorian society. But by night, she writes very different kinds of stories - the Penny Dreadfuls that are all the rage among the working-class men. Under the pseudonym Charles King, Elizabeth has written about dashing heroes fighting supernatural threats, intelligent detectives solving grisly murders, and dangerous outlaws romancing helpless women.

Ridiculous
Revisado: 05-09-21
The idea for the story was great. It was predictable, and as the storyline continued it just got more and more unbelievable. I finally stopped with two hours to go. Not worth torturing myself any longer.

Had the makings of a great story......
Revisado: 11-26-19
Started out well as a captivating story. The last third of the book turned into an extreme preachy Christian book. As a Christian myself, I don’t mind mind hooks with religious themes, but this was a bit much. The real story ended when the preaching began. It’s too bad!

Historia
Queenie Jenkins is a 25-year-old Jamaican British woman living in London, straddling two cultures and slotting neatly into neither. She works at a national newspaper, where she’s constantly forced to compare herself to her white middle-class peers. After a messy breakup from her White long-term boyfriend, Queenie seeks comfort in all the wrong places...including several hazardous men who do a good job of occupying brain space and a bad job of affirming self-worth.

Can’t believe the reviews
Revisado: 09-24-19
This book is horrible. The main character is ridiculous shallow and obviously severely messed up. She allows herself to be abused by many men as a way of “coping” with the loss of her long term boyfriend. . I tried to hang on thinking it would get better, but I gave up about a third of the way through.

Historia
For Kate Mitchell, finishing her master's thesis on reclusive photographer Reed O'Connor was just another item to check off her list. She knew exactly what she was doing. Or did she? There's just one portrait that doesn't fit. One portrait... and the passion she sees behind it. Finding the story behind O'Connor's picture becomes Kate's obsession, and the people she meets will challenge everything she thought she knew about life, love, and inspiration. A single picture can tell more than one story.

If I could give it a zero
Revisado: 08-11-19
I couldn’t get past the first 10 minutes. I wish the sample had gone longer. The female character has no backbone and is unable to think for herself. If you want a book where the substance is getting into bed, go for it.

Soon, though, her heartache and loneliness are tempered by a blossoming friendship with the only other child living at Raven's Peak: Kane Doyle, only two years older than Teagan and abandoned by his mother. Over the years, the pair grows inseparable. First they're pranksters and confidants, but eventually their feelings change, and best friends turn into soul mates.

How did this book rate a 4.5?
Revisado: 11-23-18
This book had all the elements to make a great novel. There is no plot or character development, and the reader is left guessing as to the main conflict. I must preface that I am not a prude, nor do I always use the best language. However, the constant use of foul language, including the F-bombs by the main character does nothing to make her attractive. The only constant is the long, drawn out, poorly written “sex scenes” which are a turn-off. I tried fast forwarding , but another one was close behind. I couldn’t finish it. The four dollars I paid was too much!

I gave it a fair chance, but I couldn’t finish it!
Revisado: 06-06-18
Karen White has written some books that I have really loved, but this is not one of them. It is a completely ridiculous story. Don’t get me wrong, I believe in spirits, but how many times can the door open itself? The story line is poorly developed as are the characters. Most grinding is that the main character is supposed to be so independent minded that she appears unapproachable, but doesn’t show any sense when judging a person’s character or motives. If you like this kind of book, have at it!

There were too many disconnected mini-stories, all which seemed to have their own conflicts. Though a reader should interpret meaning to some extent, I had difficulty seeing reasons for all of them. Though some of the minor conflicts seemed to have theit
